Vanderlande selects Oracle Cloud to Secure Mission-critical Databases

Leading global transportation logistics provider migrates applications to OCI and reduces IT costs for Oracle Database backups by nearly 60 percent

VEGHEL, the Netherlands and AUSTIN, TexasApril 12, 2022

Oracle today announced that Vanderlande, one of the world’s largest providers of future-proof logistic process automation, has chosen Oracle Enterprise Database Service in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to securely backup its mission-critical Oracle databases as the company continues its global expansion. As a result, Vanderlande reduced IT costs for Oracle Database backups by nearly 60 percent.

Vanderlande is a market-leading, global partner for future-proof logistic process automation in the warehousing, airports and parcel sectors. Vanderlande’s warehousing solutions are the first choice for many of the largest global e-commerce players and retailers in food, fashion and general merchandise. The company’s baggage handling systems are capable of moving over four billion pieces of baggage around the world per year and are active in more than 600 airports, including 12 of the world’s top 20. More than 52 million parcels are sorted by the company’s systems every day.

“Vanderlande is on a cloud-led journey as we align our IT strategy with the rapid growth and diversification of our business. Our move to OCI to migrate applications and for Oracle Database backups is a central component of this strategy and enables us to meet complex data demands across the business. Our success requires speed, security, and scalability, as well as cost-efficiency and transparency – which is where our collaboration with Oracle comes in,” said Bram van Mosselveld, Oracle DBA at Vanderlande.

Following the migration of its JD Edwards ERP systems to OCI, Vanderlande will now leverage OCI’s flexible and affordable storage capabilities to securely store and replicate Oracle Database backups supporting its mission-critical business applications. Vanderlande also chose OCI for its ability to provide data replication across Oracle availability domains and better cost governance through a single global rate plan.

“Market-leading companies such as Vanderlande rely on OCI for its high performance, flexibility, always-on security, and lower costs. After running several proof-of-concepts collaboratively, Vanderlande recognized that running their database backups on OCI was more cost-efficient than with their previous cloud provider. Vanderlande can now focus on what really matters to them, helping its customers optimize business processes,” added Wilfred Scholman, Country Leader, Oracle Netherlands.
