Overview: Jupyter Notebooks for Oracle Enterprise Manager Warehouse


Overview:

Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control (EMCC) Management Repository contains critical monitoring data, configuration, topology, diagnostics, alerts, incidents and other wide variety of data. EMCC customers can now choose to export data from the repository of multiple EMCC instances to Oracle OCI Object Storage, by setting up an "OCI Bridge".


Jupyter Notebooks for EM Warehouse using OCI Object Store

Once the data resides in OCI Object Storage (aka Data Lake), customers can then download the Jupyter Notebooks for EM Warehouse using OCI Object Store from this page (download link below) and use the notebooks to analyze the data residing in the Object Store. Customers have an option to use, either Oracle Data Science Service or, use Anaconda to run these Jupyter Notebooks


New: Jupyter Notebooks for EM Warehouse using OCI ADW

With this new option, customers can also ingest EMCC data from OCI Object Storage into a cloud-based Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) managed by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ops Insights service and can use the one of the following three popular options for analyzing that data.

All of the three options provide the user with direct access to raw observability and manageability data residing in ADW and can be used to perform advanced analytics and draw insights about the current state of targets managed by EMCC.

If you plan to use Jupyter Notebooks, you can download the zip for Jupyter Notebooks for EM Warehouse using OCI ADW from this page (download link below) and have an option to use, either Oracle Data Science Service or, use Anaconda to run these Jupyter Notebooks. These notebooks offer flexibility to create visual representation of the data that can be used to detect potential improvements or in some cases see the behavior of certain metrics over a time period.


Contents & Notebook Descriptions

Following is the list of Jupyter Notebooks contained in the zip file, and a brief description for each one.

  1. Sample_Exadata_Noisy_Neighbor.ipynb

    This notebook showcases the utility of high-density grid plots for simultaneously visualizing static configuration and time series telemetry collected by EMCC. The use case is to identify a noisy neighbour database on an Exadata where many databases are consolidated and typically CPUs are over-provisioned. The notebook displays database instance & host CPU configuration and the 100th percentile of host CPU utilization for an entire database fleet. The notebook illustrates the use of interactive controls to enable the user to select the databases being visualized as well as saving them to .html and .png files

  2. Sample_DB_Metrics_Forecast.ipynb

    This notebook showcases the utility of high-density grid plots for visualizing database instance telemetry for a wide variety of metrics collected by EMCC. The notebook displays database metrics as well as a representation of the cumulative distribution of these metrics. This notebook illustrates the use of interactive controls to enable the user to select the databases and the metrics being visualized.

  3. Sample_DB_Metrics_Statistics1.ipynb

    This notebook showcases a variety of chart types that are useful in understanding the distribution of database instance time series telemetry values collected by EMCC. This notebook illustrates the use of interactive controls to enable the user to select the databases and the metrics being visualized.

  4. Sample_DB_Metrics_Statistics2.ipynb

    This notebook showcases advanced statistical analysis, including forecasting, for database time series telemetry values collected by EMCC. Analytics from that are either available as either native python libraries or as third party add-ons are demonstrated. This notebook illustrates the use of interactive controls to enable the user to select the data being visualized.

  5. common.py : File contains the common reusable modules used across Enterprise Manager Jupyter Notebooks
  6. LICENSE.TXT : File contains the licenses and terms under which the Enterprise Manager Jupyter Notebooks are published
  7. THIRD_PARTY_LICENSE.TXT : File contains the licenses and terms of the third party libraries/modules used in Enterprise Manager Jupyter Notebooks
