Mission-Critical Infrastructure for Mission-Critical Contact Centers
To ensure the highest levels of resiliency for the IP network supporting 911 calls and related applications, emergency-service network operators are deploying Oracle failsafe SD-WAN solutions to ensure call delivery without disruption.
Facing intermittent challenges when incident response units were mobilized, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service turned to a failsafe Oracle SD-WAN for life-saving reliability.
Although it seems like something that's a permanent feature of the phone system, 911 is a relatively recent innovation. December 2018 marked the 50th anniversary of the first 911 call. Nearly a quarter billion 911 calls are now made each year in the U.S., with up to 80 percent of them via mobile devices in many locations, according to the National Emergency Number Association.
A major shift is underway in how network admins and their teams set up their WANs, and associated security practices need to keep pace. Rather than rely on expensive, guaranteed MPLS lines, companies are integrating more broadband Internet links, which supply plenty of extra bandwidth for link aggregation but must also be properly secured.
