The pandemic has accelerated the digitization of our society and pushed new thinking on how we can use data and technology to automate and simplify interactions. Connected Internet of Things (IoT) sensors are fueling new business opportunities and revenue streams. Central to this growing market is Vodafone Business, which provides world-class connectivity services. Ranked a leader in managed IoT connectivity services by Gartner1, it supports more than 120 million connections across five continents, powering smart meters and energy grids, connected cars, smart agriculture, COVID-19 vaccine tracking, and more.
To help its customers capture payments from these offerings, Vodafone Business has selected Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management (BRM). Running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), the BRM solution gives Vodafone Business proven monetization and charging capabilities, which support a wide-range of IoT driven services and business models. Our Oracle Communications Consulting team is leading the implementation.
“IoT is reimagining the way we work and live and providing companies the ability to quickly gather and act on data to offer valuable new services to customers,” said Mabel Pous-Fenollar, Head of IoT Connectivity, Vodafone Business. “We selected Oracle Billing and Revenue Management based on its ability to scale to support our rapid growth and numerous business models. With the solution running on Oracle Cloud, Vodafone Business will be able to deliver the best digital experiences and outcomes for our customers, enabling them to effectively charge for services through an integrated app and infrastructure solution.”
With Oracle’s cloud-native BRM, Vodafone Business can monetize a variety of IoT offerings for wholesalers, enterprises, and partners. For example, sensors in connected vehicles can enable services such as GPS map updates or infotainment, which can be charged on a subscription or consumption basis. The solution is running on the high-performance OCI Container Engine for Kubernetes and is automated with OCI Resource Manager and Terraform across multiple Oracle Cloud Regions. As such, Vodafone will be able to scale in line with its customer needs and further increase IT agility.
Technology companies such as Vodafone Business are no longer just connecting IoT devices, they are providing complete solutions for customers to help future-proof their business. Oracle Billing and Revenue Management will provide the flexible revenue platform to support Vodafone Business as they evolve their services and deliver everything from connected autonomous cars to in-home healthcare.
