Everyone loves Arm chips

June 2021
Last month, Clay Magouyrk, head of cloud infrastructure engineering, announced new Arm-based servers available in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, including four cores and 24 GB of RAM of Ampere A1 Compute as part of a new Always Free Service. Tinkerer Todd Sharp focused right away on the important thing: how to create your own Minecraft server using Free Tier A1 shapes.

Behind the scenes, there was excitement after Magouyrk’s big reveal. Demand surged immediately for A1 instances worldwide, leading Oracle to add more capacity.

Also, as a woman in tech, I’m inspired that Ampere was founded by CEO Renée James, former president of Intel. James has delivered the world’s first cloud native processor with an Arm-based server chip, Ampere Altra, offering predictable performance with the most cores per socket.

Finally, there’s a new Arm Accelerator to scale your projects. Get additional cloud credits beyond the Free Tier limits if you’re a qualified open source developer, educator, or industry partner.
