Profiling Developers: What's your Story?
Developers have stories to tell about their journey in technology. Jim Grisanzio from Oracle Java Developer Relations finds those stories and brings them to you.

Hello! I'm Jim Grisanzio. I joined the Oracle Java Developer Relations Team in January 2022, which was a great move because I love hanging out with engineers doing really important work. I was fortunate to have worked in Solaris engineering for a decade at Sun and Oracle, so I know quality organizations when I see them. That's why the Java Platform Group feels so comfortable. There are just super smart people all over the place here building innovative software and contributing to the greatest developer community in the world. I like it.

At my core I'm a project manager. I love building things. I've been doing that since I was a kid. Most recently I've been building software communities, of course, which is really cool because I get to mix with interesting people working on the edge of technology.

But my favorite task in the community development process is profiling developers themselves. That's very important to me. Profiling developers is my attempt to learn myself and also to communicate best practices and interesting stories to everyone else in the community. My profiles are based on podcasts, videos, and photography. I've shot thousands of photographs of developers in over a dozen communities since 2001. In recent years since 2017 I've interviewed 400 developers from Oracle and Oracle's many software communities covering databases, applications, operating systems, open source, and Java. I've recorded and live streamed conversations from events all over the world, and I've done interviews out on the streets outside conferences as well. I'm interested in developers as personalities, how they use technology to solve problems and create new opportunities, ant the stories they tell about their travels. I love every conversation. I learn from every conversation.
