There’s a world of developer stories out there

When we launched this newsletter in 2017, one of my goals was to show you, the reader, just how much developer-focused activity happens throughout Oracle. In tandem, I hoped my colleagues at Oracle would be inspired by the many fascinating technical stories I’ve reported.

And what a ride it’s been! I’ve hunted down a virtual reality professor in the UK, visited a French billionaire’s free programming school in Paris, discussed ethical engineering in the bowels of a former East German radio company, met the developers of the GraalVM polyglot compiler in Zurich, and watched GE engineers tinker with digital twins in Detroit.

I’ve enjoyed writing for Oracle’s various publications, including several articles for Java Magazine—culminating in the 25 greatest Java apps roundup in 2020 and an investigation of Java’s role in the stock market in 2021.

Now, it’s time to move on and leave this newsletter in the capable hands of Alan Zeichick, whom you may also know as editor in chief of Java Magazine. Alan has been a programmer since the 1970s. From his background as a mainframe systems analyst, he moved into the technology publishing world in the early 1980s, heading up such magazines as AI Expert, Software Development International, The Mathematica Journal, and even Windows CE Tech Journal.
