Getting Started with Oracle Warehouse Builder 11g
Note: This version
of the 'Getting Started' Oracle by Example tutorial is written for
OWB 11g Release 1, with differences in setup scripts,
screenshots, and text from the previous tutorial version for OWB 10g
Release 2. Earlier
versions of this Oracle By Example tutorial are available on OTN for
OWB 10g Releases 1 and 2.
Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) is Oracle's
comprehensive tool for ETL (extract, transform and load), fully
integrated relational and dimensional modeling, data quality, data
auditing, and full life cycle management of data and metadata. It
supports data integration and metadata management activities
including:
- Extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) for data warehouses
- Consolidating data from heterogeneous data sources
- Migrating data from legacy systems
- Data modeling of relational and dimensional structures
- Designing and managing corporate metadata
- Data cleansing for maximizing information quality
- Data profiling and data quality auditing
You learn how to use Oracle Warehouse
Builder to design, build, and manage your data warehouse, data mart,
or business intelligence system. The paradigm throughout the product
is that you import definitions, define target structures, validate
the structures, generate the code to implement the structures, and
deploy the structures to the target environment. After it is
deployed, Warehouse Builder assists in the daily maintenance as well
as monitoring of the deployed system. You learn how Warehouse Builder
leverages your Oracle database investments and integrates with other
Oracle tools.

Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) is Oracle's comprehensive tool for ETL (extract, transform and load), fully

provides an easy to use, graphical environment to rapidly design,
deploy, and manage data integration projects and business intelligence systems.
This series of OBE tutorials walks you through a data profiling exercise, allowing you to correct data based on detected business rules. In addition, the tutorials show how you can match and merge duplicate data using Warehouse Builder. Other topics include ETL on complex data types, modeling of schemas in the Oracle database (includes partitioning, indexing, and compression). And finally, the tutorials show how to augment Warehouse Builder with Experts, allowing you to encapsulate business knowledge into Warehouse Builder.
