This OBE describes how you can use Enterprise Manager to view detailed host configuration information, track configuration history, perform enterprise-wide configuration search, and compare server configurations.

The Oracle Management Agent automatically collects comprehensive host configuration information and stores it in the Oracle Management Repository. You can view, compare, and search the configuration information in the Management Repository to monitor and manage your enterprise configuration. As the size and complexity of heterogeneous systems increases and the number of distributed applications executing on these systems increases, the task of managing these resources can quickly become overwhelming to any system administration team. You need an automated approach for assisting you in detecting and correcting problems.
Enterprise Manager lets you view the configurations for all the targets that are being managed. Perform the following steps to view host configuration:

Open the browser and enter the following URL: http://<management service hostname>.<domain>:<port>/em/ The default port value on a clean machine is 7777. However, if there are other instances running on the machine, then the port may be different. The login page will be displayed. Enter the User Name and Password, and then click the Login button.

Click the Targets tab.

Click any one of the listed hosts.

Click the Configuration property page.

Enterprise Manager automatically collects detailed host configuration information, such as hardware, operating system, and software details. This page summarized key configuration information. In addition, from this page you can view configuration history of this host, take configuration snapshots, and compare configuration of this host to configuration of one or more other hosts. Click the Hardware Details link to see additional hardware information.

On this page you can see all of the hardware information collected for a host, including details about CPUs, IO Devices, and Network Interfaces. Click the browser Back button, to navigate back to the host configuration page.

Click the Operating System Details link, to view additional operating system configuration information.

On this page you can see detailed operating system information, such as operating system properties, file systems information, and packages installed on the server. In addition, you can view history of all of the operating system-related configuration changes that took place after Enterprise Manager started monitoring this host. Click the browser Back button to navigate back to the host configuration page.

Enterprise Manager automatically tracks all changes to the host configuration, helping administrators answer key questions about what changed and when the change was made. Perform the following steps to view host configuration history:

Click the History button, to view configuration history for this host.

This page displays all of the configuration changes that occurred on the host during the last seven days. You can change the date parameters to view changes over a longer period of time. Click the browser Back button to navigate back to the host configuration page.

Enterprise Manager lets you compare the configurations and determine differences between two or more hosts. The Compare Wizard allows you to compare various types of current/saved configurations with one or more current/saved configurations. Perform the following steps to compare host configuration:

Click the Compare Configuration button, to compare this host with another host.

Select another host from the list and click the Compare button.

This page displays a summary of the configuration comparison between two hosts. Click on the Comparison Result link for the Operating System comparison, to view more details.

This page shows detailed results of the operating system comparison for two host configurations. The comparison Summary table displays summary information about the properties, file systems, packages, and patches that were compared for the two hosts. The General Information table displays a summary comparison of the operating systems for the two hosts. The Operating System Properties table displays a comparison of the operating system properties for the two hosts. Click the General subtab.

You can use the Enterprise Manager Grid Control to search all the configurations stored in the Management Repository. When you perform a search of your enterprise configuration, the search query accesses the enterprise configuration management views in the Management Repository. Perform the following steps to search host configuration details:

Click the Search link under the configuration section..
|

Click the Search Operating System Patches Installed on Hosts link under the Search Host Operating System Configuration Data section.
|

Click the Go button to search all the patches installed on all the hosts.
|

This will list all the hosts to which you have applied the patches. To know the exact patch that is applied click the number under the Number of Patches column.

This will show you the exact patches that were applied to that particular host.
