Migrate Data and Databases to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

Move petabyte-scale datasets to or from Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in days instead of weeks or months. Use the console or Command Line Interface (CLI) to initiate the data transfer and order Data Transfer Appliance. Copy your data and ship it to Oracle, where we import it. For data export, we copy your data and ship it back to you. It’s that simple.

There is no cost to transfer data with Oracle's data transfer service (for data export outbound networking fees apply). For qualified customers, we offer the option to migrate their data on secure, high-capacity, Oracle-supplied storage appliances at no cost. You can store up to 150 TB per storage appliance, and multiple appliances per data transfer job, if necessary. Customers also have an option to send their data as files on encrypted commodity disks which are then transferred by Oracle operators to designated customer Object Storage tenancy. After transfer is done, the disks are shipped backed to the customer (disk is only used for data import).

Data is encrypted using AES-256 cipher as you load it onto the transfer appliance. Customers can also encrypt their data using their own encryption keys. When data is transferred to OCI Object Storage for your tenancy, Oracle uses encrypted network connections within our networks, enhancing data security. All data uploaded to Object Storage is encrypted by default using AES-256 encryption.

Zero Downtime Migration - ZDM, enables easy and efficient migration of your on-premises databases to the Oracle Cloud. ZDM leverages Oracle MAA technologies such as Oracle Data Guard and Oracle GoldenGate to minimize or eliminate downtime.

Oracle Recovery Manager, a tool that takes care of all backup and recovery needs for the Oracle database also offers a simple and efficient approach for Database migration to the Oracle Cloud. RMAN offers 5 methods for Database Cloud migration, including: RMAN Cross Platform Transportable PDB, Cross-Platform Transportable Table Space Backup sets, RMAN Transportable Tablespace with Data Pump, CONVERT Transportable Tablespace with Data Pump and DUPLICATE from an Active Database.

Oracle Data Pump allows customers to move data from one Oracle Database to another on swift and efficient fashion. Data Pump offers four methods for Database Cloud Migration: EM Database Migration Workbench, Transportable Tablespace, Conventional Export/Import, and Full Transportable and the MV2ADB utility.

Oracle offers the plug/unplug methods for customer that are already on Oracle Multitenant or that want to migrate their databases to a Multitenant environment. Plug/Unplug methods are valid for customers with little endian on-premises platforms and on Oracle Databases 12c or higher.
