Oracle ACE Spotlight Marcelle Kratochvil, ACE DirectorMarcelleKratochvil

Marcelle Kratochvil has been an ACE Director for over five years with a focus on multimedia and unstructured data. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Australian National University.
She started life as a DBA working on Oracle V4 on MVS and VMS and has been working on all versions since including Unix and Windows systems. She has also been a beta tester since Oracle8. She has run numerous DBA and Developer training courses for Oracle and run a number of webcasts for ODTUG. As CTO for Piction, Marcelle she spends her time doing a lot of customer support on multi-terabyte image warehouse systems around the world, as well as doing core development in PL/SQL and a variety of other programming languages. She describes herself as both a DBA and Developer

Marcelle first presented at Oracle OpenWorld in 1993 and has been presenting there every year continuously since 2008. She has won the Oracle PL/SQL Developer of the year award and has worked extensively with the local user group over the past 20 years. In 2011 she started OMMUD, the Oracle Unstructured Data with Multimedia SIG and has put together a blog and website with this as the main focus.

Her book "Managing Unstructured Data in the Oracle Database", which has just been released, describes a revolutionary approach to the management of Oracle databases containing unstructured data. She is currently researching her second book which will focus on storage architectures and social network integration with multimedia.

A vocal and strong advocate for the storage of all data in the database, Marcelle has designed and built her own search engine, reporting engine, e-commerce system and XML language designed specifically for a multimedia environment. She has built an award winning shipping and freight management system and also received an award from the state government for the development of a digital asset management system. She has a strong passion for Artificial Intelligence and is researching methods using the database for achieving this.

A keen field hockey player, Marcelle has been playing every year since she was 11 years old. She also coaches a team and is based in Canberra, Australia. She enjoys a good single malt whiskey and likes visiting countries and regions where they make wine, cheese and whiskey.
