Avatack sees 80% performance improvement with Oracle Cloud
Adhesive tape manufacturer sticks with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to integrate applications and analyze data from factories, saving time and money.
“We were using a 30-year-old custom information management system to gain insights into key performance indicators across the business. When we decided to move, we chose Oracle over SAP. And since Oracle Cloud is more accessible and elastic for a productive landscape, we moved on-premises E-Business Suite to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, with our first cloud service being Oracle Integration for our internal approval process.”
Business challenges
Avatack is one of the world’s leading adhesive tape manufacturers. The Taiwan-based company uses strong polymer synthesis and coating technology to manufacture tape and label paper for electronic components, as well as for the medical, automotive, and construction industries.
With a strong focus on the Asia-Pacific market, Avatack serves global clients through its network of 33 production and processing sites and offices across Southeast Asia, China, and Taiwan.
The company had been using a 30-year-old custom information management system to gain insights into key performance indicators across the business. However, Avatack struggled for years to reconcile financial numbers across lines of business and understand the true sources of profit.
Data was spread across locations and slow systems provided limited ability to exchange data. Consequently, the financial year-end settlement process took 10 days to complete. Additionally, each plant needed its own on-premises servers, which added to IT management, operations, and maintenance costs.
To speed up business insights and improve efficiency, the company considered an alternative to data consolidation and process automation across the organization.
Why Avatack Chose Oracle
Avatack chose to migrate on-premises Oracle E-Business Suite applications and database workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to improve the quality of data and reporting, eliminate IT maintenance and administration, and boost the company’s core capabilities.
Results
In replacing its legacy system, Avatack integrated multiple core business applications like Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Content Management using Oracle Integration and Migration. With OCI, the company accelerates process automation to develop applications like a complaint processing platform, an IT service platform, and a KPI management platform to speed up the approval process from weeks to days.
After Avatack migrated its application and database workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, its enterprise architecture became worthy of the company’s market status. While it used to take Avatack two days to integrate various data sources on premises, the company now enjoys real-time reporting using Oracle Analytics Cloud and Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse. The autonomous cloud database applies machine learning and automation to integrate data from multiple sources as well as tune, patch, and encrypt itself—eliminating database administration. Self-tuning in the autonomous data warehouse improved report query performance by 80%. Autoscaling allows the company to pay only for what is used: increased data warehousing capacity for peak performance during fiscal closing periods and decreased capacity when idle.
Oracle Identity Cloud Service automates single sign-on processes for a better user experience and provides supervisory reporting from anywhere, at any time. The enterprise-class security offered by OCI also enabled Avatack to receive the top ranking in a recent security audit and assessment report.
Investing in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) not only brought the company 50% operational cost savings but also accelerated Avatack’s ability to gather, process, and act on accurate information. The company can now respond quickly to market shifts, improve internal processes, make strategic decisions, and improve customer satisfaction and performance.
