Hear from Our Interns

Akim

Brunel University London
Systems Support intern

Intern year: 2019—2020
Started full-time: June 2019

My internship was in the Systems Support team and I took on a mixture of responsibilities related to being a field engineer and technical account manager. What I learned during my time as an intern is that I’m most passionate about helping customers and adding value to my team.

I loved getting to meet real clients with hardware problems and learning how to fix their issues. By the end of placement I was performing these engineering tasks independently! You get exposed to such a diverse range of learning opportunities here, there’s a lot of room for exploration. I enjoyed the chance to help with event planning and attend important recruitment conferences.

Throughout the experience, I felt like a valued and trusted employee—never “just an intern.” I had all the help and support I needed from my wonderful team!

Charlie

The Open University
Solution Engineering intern

Intern year 2019—2020
Started full-time: July 2020

As a solutions architect intern, my main goal was to provide value to my team members and the business. I achieved this by getting involved in as much customer activity as possible. This included developing demos for customers that showcased our capabilities and helping my team present our technology solutions to customers.

Over the course of my year-long internship, I could really see the improvement in my technical knowledge. In particular, I learned a lot about cloud infrastructure and cloud- native solutions. On top of that, my communication skills have drastically improved. I have this confidence that I never had before. It comes from knowing that I can adapt to different working situations.

Rebecca

University of St Andrews (Scotland)
Operations Analyst intern

Intern year: 2018—2019
Started full-time: June 2019

For my internship I joined a team working with start-ups. It was an invaluable experience that gave me practical insight into the world of work. From day one, the supportive and collaborative culture made me feel like a valued member of the team.

I loved the level of responsibility I was given in key strategic projects. This allowed me to work with multiple teams and stakeholders across different countries and cultures. I even got to travel to Austin, Texas to work on an event.

It was an easy decision to stay at Oracle after being offered a permanent position. I now work within the global HCM marketing strategy and campaigns team, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.

Maisy

Bath Spa University
HR intern

Intern year: 2017—2018
Started full-time: June 2019

I joined Oracle as an intern on the central HR team, which is the first line of support for UK employees. When you’re working with people, no day is ever the same. I loved how varied the role was! At university I’d studied HR a bit, but it wasn’t until I started working in a real HR team that I saw how important the function is. I got to work closely with a range of HR teams, which gave me even more insight into the sort of career I could have.

I’m an enthusiastic person, wanting to keep busy and get involved in everything. Not only was I allowed to do that, I was encouraged to! I even led some projects. I always felt like a valued member of the team. If you’re reading this and wondering whether you should do a placement, I would 100% say do it!

Lahini

University of London
Solution Engineering intern

Intern year: 2017—2018
Started full-time: June 2019

My time as an intern was very customer-focused. My role was to understand cloud technology and how it’s used across a particular industry or company. Studying computer science meant I was able to understand the technical side of the conversation as well as the business side.

I supported our internal sales teams by helping identify customer objectives and aligning them with our cloud technology. We were essentially showing customers how Oracle could improve their business. I liked working alongside the cloud consultants and learning to give a rounded view of customer requirements. My favourite part was coming up with innovative ideas and solutions that actually made a difference for our customers.

Emma

University of Reading
Business Operations intern

Intern year: 2016—2017
Started full-time: June 2017

I was a member of the very first cohort of UK interns. I spent a year in the business operations team as a sales support analyst. I was delighted to be given loads of opportunities to apply the core skills I learned at university, especially in areas like data analysis and presenting strategic findings.

I developed lots of new skills networking across the business and building knowledge in Oracle processes and tools. The year I spent as an intern was a brilliant grounding in how the industry operates. I love that Oracle is such a forward-thinking and welcoming company. It was definitely the right choice for me.
