Oracle Intelligent Bots
A New Wave of Mobile Engagement: Chatbots

Self-driving cars, drones that will deliver packages to our doorsteps, household robots that express emotion – these are examples of innovative technology, cloud development and machine intelligence demonstrating how science fiction is rapidly becoming science fact. In fact, more than three quarters of brands are said to deliver customer experience through VR and chatbots in the next four years.

A recent Oracle report “Can Virtual Experiences Replace Reality?” revealed how the use of emerging technologies is set to surge in the next 5 years. It found 80% of brands will be using chatbots for customer interactions by 2020 with 36% having already implemented them. With the rise of chatbots growing, how do you engage the customers and employees on their mobile devices in both a timely and personalised, manner?

As the on-demand economy scales, we expect fast and accurate service from their apps. If we don’t get it, we simply switch to another app. In this very large, low-entry, hyper-competitive, on-demand market, we fight for share-of-mind and time. Often, the only way organisations can remain relevant is to create timely and useful “mobile moments”. These are real-time, intent driven interactions that require only a glance – yet deliver information users can consume and take action on immediately.

Now imagine a world in which there is no requirement for users and consumers to download and install an application, whilst providing them the quickest and most accurate way to consume information. A world where the network becomes the computer and development and deployment require no more than a web browser. A world of communication through natural language and artificial intelligence. How? A chatbot. This is a computer program designed to assist human users’ access services with a conversational interface with zero installation. Most chatbots use a dialog-guided system to communicate with real users on a conversational channel.

Chatbots employ a conversational interface that is both lean and smart, and if designed properly, is even charming. They can help people find the things they want and need, in real-time, without the hassle of searching online or navigating a complex customer service organisation.

Oracle offers Chatbots for Developers and recently Grant Ronald, Director of Product Management for Mobile, Chatbots and Development Tools presented an Introduction to Chatbots for Developers at Devoxx UK. The quick fire session covered live demos of a chatbot showcasing why they are the next big thing in mobile application development. Miss it? Catch the recorded session on YouTube.

More of the Oracle sessions and interviews can be found on the Devoxx UK YouTube channel as we were also joined by Ian Sharp, Lead Data Scientist, Oracle UK&I who discussed the past, present and future of Data Science and Data Ethics during his interview and session on “Data Science Is Easy Right?” where he looked at the patterns around successful (and less successful) journeys from innovation to production and the emerging trends for data science around cognitive AI and Deep Learning.  Lastly, Mark Reinhold, Chief Architect of the Java Platform Group, Oracle spoke across three sessions including the Ask the Architect Keynote.

We were delighted to be at Devoxx UK to showcase examples of our Mobile, Chatbots and Development tools. Oracle offers cross-platform mobile development and deployment to iOS, Android, and Windows with popular open source technologies that enable developers to build rich mobile clients that connect to any back-end system. Oracle JET is an open source JavaScript toolkit. Oracle MAX is a low-code environment that allows developers to quickly build mobile apps without having to write code.
