JD Williams is the largest home shopping company in the United Kingdom, and has more than three million customers across the globe. Traditionally a catalogue retailer, more than 60% of the organization’s business is now online, with more than half of online traffic coming from mobile devices. In recent years, JD Williams also launched a number of high street stores, helping to reach new domestic and international markets while building core brands Jacamo, Simply Be, and JD Williams.

By 2020, the company aims to be the leading global retailer recognized for making shopping for fashion easy and enjoyable for all. To meet its ambitious growth targets, JD Williams embarked on a business transformation program, Fit for the Future, investing in technology, people, and processes to modernize the business, and improve productivity and efficiency to better compete in the fast-moving fashion market.

As part of its transformation program, JD Williams is investing in a host of modern merchandising, planning, and inventory systems underpinned by new finance and purchasing systems and processes. The finance and purchasing systems act as a foundation on which to deliver the rest of the digital transformation. Previously, JD Williams did not have a standard process for purchasing and separate parts of the business used different standards for accounting. This meant that the finance team had to carry out time consuming manual work at month and year end to consolidate the accounts for group reporting.

JD Williams chose Oracle Fusion Financials and Oracle Fusion Procurement to standardize purchasing and finance processes, improve efficiency, and implement common financial policies across the whole group. Oracle Fusion Financials provides flexible reporting with management reports available at the touch of a button—helping the business to make more informed decisions and enabling the finance team to focus on more value add activities. Oracle Analytics will also deliver greater insight across the business and will provide even deeper understanding of the business going forward. Oracle Fusion Procurement will provide self-service procurement and much greater control and visibility of spending throughout the business.

Oracle Advanced Customer Support (ACS) provided a team of engineers to deliver additional support during the latter stages of implementation and testing, as well as in production after go-live. Led by an Oracle Technical Account Manager, and working closely with JD Williams and IBM Global Business Services (IBM GBS), the ACS engineers provided service request management and technical specialist assistance to ensure that the project went live on time.
