Our biggest driver to purchase Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service was to eliminate purchasing new equipment for our ever-growing training projects, allowing us to create and reuse complex application environments. We now keep resources flexible and reduce costs.

Clico Moves Training Online, Slashes Infrastructure Costs by 20% to 25%, and Reduces Data Center Workflow by 15% with Oracle

Clico, based in Poland, is an international group operating in Hungary, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria that delivers online training in security solutions. It has been a training services provider on the Polish and Eastern European markets since 1991. It also collaborates with partners in the Baltic States, delivering training through Oracle Cloud.

Clico helps specialist consultants become certified in a range of network security solutions, including Check Point, Juniper Networks, Trend Micro, Forcepoint, and Palo Alto Networks. With a growing demand for training, finite classroom resources, and mounting equipment costs, Clico looked to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service for a solution to providing online training at lower cost and to free up engineers from preparing complex environments.

Challenges
  • Reduce the costs of delivering training to security vendor partner organizations in Central and Eastern Europe by eliminating spend on equipment and networks
  • Create virtual learning environments for students to reduce the load on engineers and trainers who prepare servers and applications for a growing volume of classroom training
  • Free up data center resources and eliminate classroom capacity constraints by shifting training workloads to the cloud
  • Replace time-consuming hardware capacity planning with automated provisioning of complete, on-demand security training environments
Results
  • Provided customers with cyber security training by harnessing the high fidelity virtual data center differentiators of Oracle Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) with deep infrastructure control and capabilities in multiple classrooms across Central and Eastern Europe using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service
  • Empowered Clico to lift and shift data center training applications across classrooms and authorized training centers without associated infrastructure and migration costs, using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service to run VMware and Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) applications for security solution training “as-is” on the public cloud without any modifications
  • Reduced the recurring infrastructure costs, which were previously spent creating training environments, by 20% to 25% by converting workloads from VMware workstations and servers to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service
  • Cut the time needed in Central European server rooms by 15% for engineers and security system trainers to prepare the case study-focused learning environments required by security vendor partner organizations with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service, which copies applications into containers and provides students with a virtualized set of machines to be used privately throughout the duration of the course
  • Saved expenses by eliminating the need to send hard disks and other media by using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service to mirror instructor-led training for partners requiring education in network security technologies
  • Boosted efficiency by using blueprints to create multiple isolated copies of security vendor training environments on demand with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service, which replaces time-consuming capacity planning and expensive machines with automated provisioning, eliminating the need for engineers to spend time constantly resetting the infrastructure required for cyber security training events
  • Created virtual environments for students to learn and conduct hands-on network security experiments, allowing for a trial and error-environment with no risk of creating vulnerabilities to the core network in Oracle Cloud
  • Solved the constraint of limited-seat capacity classroom training by using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service to deliver cyber security training through high-fidelity clones of the data center, allowing the professional-services provider to create complex application environments on demand

Having adopted Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service, we are now fully invested in Oracle. It’s less expensive and better-performing than competitors' platforms. With Oracle Cloud ‘lift and shift’ capabilities, our engineers rapidly build complex security training environments with no associated infrastructure costs.

— Piotr Misiowiec, Education Services Director, Clico Sp. z o.o.

Execution

Clico went live with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service after 6-8 months of testing and design work. Piotr Misiowiec introduced the solution to Clico’s engineers and trainers, who learned how to transfer VM environments to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ravello Service and implemented the new overlay cloud to rapidly deploy application clones on the public cloud, creating isolated training, or lab environments, in geographic locations closest to trainees. Clico looks forward to using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute for even higher efficiencies.
