Getting Started

1Create an Oracle Management Cloud instance

Sign up for Oracle Cloud. See Manage Oracle Cloud Accounts and Services for details.

Upon signup, you'll receive an email with access details. In this email, click Sign In to Oracle Cloud and Sign in to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Console.

From the Instance Management page, create an Oracle Management Cloud instance.

2Configure licensing options

Access the Oracle Management Cloud console and review the Oracle Management Cloud offerings.

Various Oracle Management Cloud capabilities are bundled under license editions. One or more editions may be required for the capabilities and the number of entities you want to monitor.

Review Entities Conversion Formulas and enable one or more license editions based on your business requirements.

Note: You can assign license editions to specific entities (objects and resources whose configuration and performance are being monitored) only after you've deployed agents and added your entities.

3Deploy agents

Oracle Management Cloud agents collect data from entities that run on hosts or virtual hosts, on-premises or in a cloud. In some cases, agent-less monitoring is also possible.

Review the Overview of the Deployment Process and the prerequisites for deploying agents.

Download the Oracle Management Cloud Agent Software and create a registration key.

Deploy cloud agents (example shown here), on hosts where entities are running. Cloud agents collect metrics and logs data that are processed, analyzed and visualized in Oracle Management Cloud.

Deploy APM agents specifically for monitoring applications end to end. APM agents can be configured for a wide range of application servers and they collect metrics that are processed, analyzed and visualized in Oracle Application Performance Monitoring.

4Add entities

Get familiar with the entity definition terminology and understand how entities are added to Oracle Management Cloud using the graphical user interface or using customized JSON files.

Review How-To information and add the entities that you want to monitor and analyze.

5Start using Oracle Management Cloud

Proactively monitor and diagnose the end-to-end performance of applications, analyze and explore the underlying infrastructure, as well as logs.

Evaluate resource usage, redistribute capacity, and forecast future resource needs.

Schedule and track workflows that execute typical administration tasks.

Discover and monitor the health and performance of Autonomous Databases.

Use Data Explorer to explore operational data and analyze it by various dimensions.

Create dashboards for a quick insight into the health and performance of your IT infrastructure or applications.
