Before You Begin

Purpose

This tutorial walks you through the many ways that you can manage Oracle E-Business Suite environments on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic (Compute Classic) and related database services. These management tasks can be broken down into two categories:

  • Operations on an existing environment (that is, an environment that was previously created using the EBS Cloud Admin Tool). Examples include: cloning, scaling, and creating backups.
  • Operations based upon environment backups. Examples include: creating a new environment, deleting a backup.

What Do You Need?

To perform the steps in this tutorial, you must have:

Process Overview

To perform any of the procedures described in this tutorial, launch the EBS Cloud Admin Tool menu.

The table below lists the available procedures and supported services to run the database tier where applicable.

These procedures apply to any environment created with the EBS Cloud Admin Tool in which the database resides on the cloud service indicated, except where otherwise noted. Refer to Section 3.4.2: Provisioning a New Oracle E-Business Suite Installation on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Classic Using the EBS Cloud Admin Tool and Section 3.5: Cloning Oracle E-Business Suite from On-Premises to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Classic in Getting Started with Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud to determine which combinations of Oracle E-Business Suite releases, Oracle Database releases, and cloud services are supported by the provisioning and lift and shift automation.

Apply Prerequisite Patches (Conditional)

Ensure that your Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 environments in Oracle Cloud are at the AD-TXK Delta 10 level. Older environments may have been provisioned with AD-TXK Delta 9, but certain features and enhancements require AD-TXK Delta 10. See My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1617461.1, Applying the Latest AD and TXK Release Update Packs to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 for instructions.

In addition, you must apply the following patches on your source environments to enable the "EBS Snapshot Master" procedures:

  • 27821806:R12.AD.C
  • 27821411:R12.TXK.C

Determining Cloud Service Account Details

The EBS Cloud Admin Tool prompts you to enter cloud service account details, including the Compute Classic Service Instance ID and cloud service REST endpoints obtained when you provisioned your Oracle E-Business Suite instance.

Refer to the "Determine Cloud Service Account Details" section in the Oracle by Example tutorial Common Tasks for Oracle E-Business Suite in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Classic to identify and record these account detals for later use.

Launching the EBS Cloud Admin Tool Menu

Follow these steps to launch the EBS Cloud Admin Tool menu:

  1. Log on to the EBS Cloud Admin Tool VM you provisioned earlier and switch from the opc user to the oracle user by running the command:
    $ sudo su - oracle
  2. Set your current directory to /u01/install/APPS/apps-unlimited-ebs/.
    $ cd /u01/install/APPS/apps-unlimited-ebs/
  3. Run ProvisionEBS.pl.
    $ perl ProvisionEBS.pl 

This brings up the EBS Cloud Admin Tool main menu, shown below:

From this menu, you can launch all subsequent operations described in this document.

Note: If execution of ProvisionEBS.pl fails for any reason (such as a network timeout), you should re-run it. The script detects if a previous session failed, and will prompt the user whether to continue with that session.

Managing Environments

This section covers instructions on how to manage environments created using the EBS Cloud Admin Tool including:

  • Clone the environment using the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage Classic
  • Add a shared or non-shared application tier to the environment
  • Delete the environment
  • Manage (create and delete) backups
  • Refresh the environment from a backup on the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage Classic

Note: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage Classic was formerly known as Oracle Storage Cloud Service, or OSCS.

To begin, follow these steps to choose the environment you wish to manage:

  1. From the EBS Cloud Admin Tool main menu, choose "3: Manage Environments":

If you do not enter a different response, the tool uses the default value.

Cloning an Environment using the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage Classic

In this section, you will clone an Oracle E-Business Suite environment within the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic using Object Storage Classic.

Notes:

  • The "Clone Environment" capability is supported for EBS environments in which the database resides on Compute Classic. If you choose an environment for which the database resides on DBCS or Exadata CS, you will receive an error: "Cloning is supported only for environments with database on Compute."
  • While it is possible to invoke parallel executions of the EBS Cloud Admin Tool, you cannot perform the "Cloning an Environment using the Oracle Storage Cloud Service" and the "Creating an Oracle Storage Cloud Service Backup" operations at the same time. If you do so, you will receive the message "Another backup process (ebsclone.pl) is already running, please wait until the process is finished or terminate the process."
  1. From the Manage Environments screen, select option "1: Clone Environment".

  11. (Conditional) Apply missing patches.

    The cloning operation checks for required technology patches. If any are missing, it will report an error "ERROR: The following mandatory patches are missing: <patch list>" to the console and to a log file in /u01/install/APPS/apps-unlimited-ebs/out/.

    After the cloning operation completes, apply the indicated missing patches. Refer to the appropriate document below for more information:

Adding an Application Tier to an Existing Environment

In this section, you will add an application tier to an existing environment. You can choose whether to add a shared or a non-shared application tier.

Note: The steps for adding a shared application tier or a non-shared application tier are very similar.

Managing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage Classic Backups

This section covers instructions on how to manage backups in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage Classic (formerly known as Oracle Storage Cloud Service, or OSCS), created either as part of a lift-and-shift operation from on-premises, or from a Manage Environments -> Create Backup operation on the cloud.

"Delete Backups" is the only available option from the "Manage Oracle Storage Cloud Service (OSCS) Backups" screen.

  1. Choose "5: Manage Oracle Storage Cloud Service (OSCS) Backups" from the EBS Cloud Admin Tool main menu.

Cleaning Up After a Failed Provisioning

If your installation fails and you are unable to recover, delete the installation artifacts and free up your cloud resources by launching the EBS Cloud Admin Tool main menu and follow the steps below:
  1. In the EBS Cloud Admin Tool main menu, choose option "6: Clean Up After a Failed Provisioning".
