March 2021 Update

Revision History

This document will continue to evolve as existing sections change and new information is added. All updates appear in the following table:

Date Product Feature Notes
25 FEB 2021     Created initial document.

Overview

This document outlines the upcoming Enterprise Data Management Cloud update.

Feature Summary

Column Definitions:

Report = New or modified, Oracle-delivered, ready to run reports.

UI or Process-Based: Small Scale = These UI or process-based features are typically comprised of minor field, validation, or program changes. Therefore, the potential impact to users is minimal.

UI or Process-Based: Larger Scale* = These UI or process-based features have more complex designs. Therefore, the potential impact to users is higher.

Features Delivered Disabled = Action is needed BEFORE these features can be used by END USERS. These features are delivered disabled and you choose if and when to enable them. For example, a) new or expanded BI subject areas need to first be incorporated into reports, b) Integration is required to utilize new web services, or c) features must be assigned to user roles before they can be accessed.

Ready for Use by End Users
(Feature Delivered Enabled)

Reports plus Small Scale UI or Process-Based new features will have minimal user impact after an update. Therefore, customer acceptance testing should focus on the Larger Scale UI or Process-Based* new features.

Customer Must Take Action before Use by End Users
(Feature Delivered Disabled)

Not disruptive as action is required to make these features ready to use. As you selectively choose to leverage, you set your test and roll out timing.

Key Resources

Changes to Reserved Group Names in Access Control

Starting with this update, the predefined role names that are prevented by EPM Cloud as group names are reduced to only Service Administrator, Power User, User, and Viewer. Previously, the list of reserved words encompassed historical role names as well.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

Previously, EPM Cloud treated deprecated predefined role names such as System Administrator, Application Administrator, Library Administrator, and Reports Administrator as reserved words that could not be used as group names. With this change, except in the case of legacy environments that still use these roles, you are able to create groups with these names in Access Control.

Business Benefit: This change reduces the number of reserved words.

New Video

The following video is now available.

Overview: Location of Nodes in Enterprise Data Management

Data sharing gets complex when the same record is shared across different branches of a hierarchy to enable cost allocation, share skilled resources across projects, or reuse cost centers across legal entities. The new Locations capability within Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud helps end-users browse alternate node instances and navigate to them by highlighting their position and ancestry, and identifying properties.

Business Benefit: Videos provide overviews and step-by-step instructions to help you perform your related business activities.

Updated Videos

The following videos have been updated.

Converting Node Types

Learn how to create node type converters to share data across applications with different node types. You learn how to copy and transform properties during node type conversion and see the effects of node type converters in active requests. This updated video reflects the latest user interface and features for node type converters, including creating transformation expressions and using alternate node type prefixes in node type converters. It also introduces alternate node type qualifiers and shows how you can leverage them for name transformations in node type converters, as well as how they are used when comparing nodes across viewpoints.

Importing and Exporting Application Data

Learn how to import and export application dimension data in Enterprise Data Management Cloud. This updated video reflects the latest user interface, features, and processes for importing and exporting data, including a discussion of import modes and a comparison of exporting and extracting data.

Creating Hierarchy Sets

Learn how to create a custom hierarchy set. You select node types for the hierarchy and define how they interact in the hierarchy. This updated video reflects the latest user interface and features available to define in the hierarchy set inspector, including custom validations, permissions, and approval policies, and includes an explanation of the binding status for hierarchy sets.

Mapping Data Across Applications

Learn how to map data across applications in Enterprise Data Management Cloud. There are scenarios where you want to map enterprise data across multiple business applications, because you may analyze your business performance differently from how you operate your business. Learn the steps to set up a view to map an Account data type across two applications by using an alternate hierarchy viewpoint. This video has been updated to reflect user interface changes and differences in procedural steps.

Setting Up Node Types

Learn how to set up node types in Enterprise Data Management Cloud. A node type represents real world business objects that share a common purpose, such as departments, entities, or products. Learn the steps to create your own node types when you want to use a different set of properties, define specific hierarchical relationships, or classify a unique set of nodes for a business purpose. This video has been updated to reflect user interface changes and differences in procedural steps.

Business Benefit: Videos provide overviews and step-by-step instructions to help you perform your related business activities.

IMPORTANT Actions and Considerations

LOANER PROGRAM FOR CLOUD INFRASTRUCTURE GENERATION 2 TESTING

Oracle EPM Cloud is now live on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Gen 2 environments. If you are interested in testing your application performance on an OCI Gen 2 environment, open a service request following the process at https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/saas/enterprise-performance-management-common/tsepm/op_procs_loaner_envs.html and request for a loaner environment in an OCI Gen 2 data center for a duration of 30 days with the business justification as “Want to test application performance in an OCI Gen 2 data center”.

After you have performed the testing, submit Provide Feedback from the loaner environment. Create a service request using the normal support process, if you have any issues or feedback for the OCI Gen 2 environment.
