25 MAR 2021     Created initial document.

Overview

This document outlines the upcoming Enterprise Performance Management Cloud update.

Feature Summary

Column Definitions:

Report = New or modified, Oracle-delivered, ready to run reports.

UI or Process-Based: Small Scale = These UI or process-based features are typically comprised of minor field, validation, or program changes. Therefore, the potential impact to users is minimal.

UI or Process-Based: Larger Scale* = These UI or process-based features have more complex designs. Therefore, the potential impact to users is higher.

Features Delivered Disabled = Action is needed BEFORE these features can be used by END USERS. These features are delivered disabled and you choose if and when to enable them. For example, a) new or expanded BI subject areas need to first be incorporated into reports, b) Integration is required to utilize new web services, or c) features must be assigned to user roles before they can be accessed.

Ready for Use by End Users
(Feature Delivered Enabled)

Reports plus Small Scale UI or Process-Based new features will have minimal user impact after an update. Therefore, customer acceptance testing should focus on the Larger Scale UI or Process-Based* new features.

Customer Must Take Action before Use by End Users
(Feature Delivered Disabled)

Not disruptive as action is required to make these features ready to use. As you selectively choose to leverage, you set your test and roll out timing.

Updating of Reconciliation Attributes Through Loading a File in Reconciliation Compliance Now Available in EPM Automate and REST API

You can now update reconciliation attributes in Reconciliation Compliance by loading a file containing the updates. You can also use an EPM Automate command or a REST API.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation

Business Benefit: As more and more customers are dealing with high volumes of reconciliations in Reconciliation Compliance, the automatic handling of reconciliations is critical to ease of use thereby reducing the need for manual intervention. This feature give you the ability to load more information by updating reconciliation attributes in bulk using a file.

Updates to the Clone Environment Feature

The Clone Environment feature is now available for all EPM Cloud business processes including Enterprise Data Management. This feature provides a screen-based method to clone environments. It is an alternative to writing EPM Automate scripts to clone an environment.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

NOTE: This feature supports the cloning of both Classic and OCI (Gen2) EPM Cloud environments. For Classic EPM Cloud environments, security (users and their predefined and application role assignments, and group assignments) cannot be cloned using this feature.

Cloning of environments is useful in migration scenarios, including the following:

  • Production to test cloning
  • Test to production cloning

When you clone an environment, EPM Cloud automatically completes all the actions required to create an exact copy of the current application in the target environment. Because this process recreates the target environment, be sure to backup data and artifacts from the target environment before using this feature.

Business Benefit: Using the Clone Environment feature allows you to clone EPM Cloud environments without writing EPM Automate scripts.

Key Resources

New Web Ad Hoc Experience in EPM Cloud

In this update we are introducing the new Web ad hoc experience across all themes.

Applies to:  Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

New Web ad hoc replaces the existing Web ad hoc with a new user experience when using ad hoc over the Web. Users can start with a cube slice from scratch or traverse from their Web forms or dashboards into these new ad hoc sheets for a whole new ad hoc experience. Users using the Redwood Experience can leverage the benefit of the dynamic tabs to work in tandem with form or dashboards or reports alongside these new ad hoc grids. This solves many multi-tasking use cases within Cloud EPM.

Business Benefit: The new Web ad hoc experience will provide the benefit of fast, snappy grids, all within a newly defined interface.

Business Benefit: Colored icons let you more easily differentiate the horizontal tabs on a card.

Key Resources

Enhanced Business Rules Dialog in Smart View (Mac and Browser)

When there are business rules associated with a form to "Run on Save," Smart View (Mac and Browser) users were required to select the Submit and Calc button from the Smart View ribbon to complete this task. With this enhancement, business rules are triggered automatically. Smart View (Mac and Browser) detects whether there are business rules associated with the form, and then runs them with prompts being displayed in the new Business Rules dialog. Similarly, when submitting supporting details, if the form is associated with rules set to "Run on Save," the Business Rules dialog will display. The new Business Rules dialog makes working with forms easier and more intuitive.

Applies to:  Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: A previous limitation of Office 365 was that you could not automatically launch the task pane where business rules were implemented, and you were required to use the Submit and Calc button on the ribbon. With this enhancement, that limitation is eliminated, and you can run the business rules from a dialog. This provides a better user interface and more intuitive workflow to improve your experience with Smart View (Mac and Browser).

Steps to Enable

To use the new Business Rules dialog in Smart View (Mac and Browser), Service Administrators must create and deploy a new manifest file:

  1. Create a new manifest file and customize it per your requirements, ensuring that you include the Business Rules and Supporting Details option.
  2. Deploy the manifest file to Smart View (Mac and Browser) users.

Key Resources

    • Import a dimension from a configured connection to Enterprise Data Management
    • Import and export data mappings from Data Management
  • You can now select a Calendar view from the Schedule Task List menu to display tasks in traditional calendar format by Month, Week, or Day. From the Calendar view, you can copy, paste, delete, import and export tasks.
  • When you generate a Task Manager report that has an Organizational Unit or Account Type as a parameter, you can now use a hierarchical list to make selections.

  • The Send Email Rule has been enhanced for automated tasks so that the task owner receives an email notification when a process automation task is complete.
  • The Calendar view and the Gantt view use these new colors to indicate Task Status:
    • Pending: Grey
    • Open: Blue
    • Closed: Green
    • Error: Red

Applies to:  Financial Consolidation and Close, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: Task Manager has been enhanced with several new features, enabling you to complete tasks faster and more easily.

New Idle Time Setting for Agents During Automated Maintenance Window (AMW) Downtime

In Data Integration, a new AMW_IDLE_TIME parameter in agentparamas.ini enables you to specify the idle time value for agents running in asynchronous mode during an Automated Maintenance Window (AMW) downtime or an unscheduled maintenance.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

The AMW_IDLE_TIME parameter value is set in minutes and the default setting is 15 minutes. Customers can define a longer idle time but should not specify an idle time value less than 15 minutes. The AMW downtime is a contiguous time interval during in which automated maintenance tasks are run for a business process. Prior to this update agents often could not to reconnect to the Oracle EPM Cloud during an AMW, or scheduled/unscheduled maintenance.

Business Benefit: EPM agents can be reconnected to the Oracle EPM Cloud automatically during schedule and unscheduled maintenance based on a idle time value.

Steps to Enable

  1. Select the Download Agent option on the Actions menu in Data Integration.
  2. Unzip the EPMAgent.zip and overwrite your existing agent folder.

The deletion on the new Purge Transactions dialog is based on specifying the Match date, and then selecting the Match Type and Account IDs to be purged.  It is recommended to align your purge cycles between Transaction Matching and Reconciliation Compliance but it is not required.

Business Benefit: The ability to purge matched transactions that you no longer want to store allows you to perform maintenance on your environment as needed.

Key Resources

Account Reconciliation User Interface Translated into Additional Languages

The Account Reconciliation user interface is now translated into Arabic and Norwegian and is consistent with the other Enterprise Performance Management business processes. In addition, Account Reconciliation is adding translation for Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, and Thai.

Business Benefit: Helps additional customers around the globe use Account Reconciliation in their native language.

Key Resources

Skipping the Next Account Reconciliation System Maintenance Run in a Streamlined System Setting

There’s a new System Settings dialog under Application > Configuration called Services that contains two tasks: Changing the Default Start Time for opening reconciliations and the ability to skip the next system maintenance run. Previously, these two tasks were on separate dialogs. The System Maintenance task had a “Turn On” and “Turn Off” option, but since this caused some confusion, there’s now simply the ability to skip the next system maintenance run.

NOTE: The System Maintenance in Account Reconciliation is not the same as the Daily Maintenance which is performed at the EPM Cloud level and not associated with these Account Reconciliation only maintenance tasks such as the user sync process.

Business Benefit: By streamlining the System Settings options, customers have easier access and now have the ability to skip a system maintenance run on Account Reconciliation for a day.

Key Resources

Transaction ID Added to Transaction Matching Filterable Fields

Since the Transaction ID is a primary key, you can now use the Transaction ID as a filterable field when searching for a transaction. The Transaction ID has been added to the following areas where filters are used in Transaction Matching:

  • Unmatched Transactions
  • Data Source filtering in the Match Type configuration
  • Report query builder

Business Benefit: Adding the Transaction ID field to filtering in Transaction Matching helps you find transactions more easily.

Key Resources

Improved Selection of Report Generation Parameters for Organizational Units

Currently, during custom report creation, there is a flat list display of organizational units when you select organizational units as a parameter. Since that list can be long, you can now pick organizational units from a hierarchical list, making it easier to select parameters.

Business Benefit: Saves you time when selecting report generation parameters by allowing you to pick from a drop down hierarchical list.

Access Current Date/Time and Calculate Date Offset in Expressions

The current date and time are accessible in an expression to allow for comparison to node property values. Additional methods can be used to calculate an offset (days, months, years) to a specified date.

The following objects and methods are available for these purposes:

  • Now - returns the current date and time
  • Today - returns the current date
  • Plus - adds the specified period to a date
  • Minus - subtracts the specified period from a date

Business Benefit: Derived properties, custom validations, and other types of expressions need to compare to the current date or time. In some cases, it is also necessary to be able to calculate a past or future date based on the current date.

Key Resources

Appearance Option to Display Business Process Name

A new Appearance option is available to display or hide the Enterprise Data Management business process name in the global header at the top of the user interface. The Display Business Process Name option can be used with any theme along with custom logo and background images.

Business Benefit: Some organizations who customize the user interface with their own branding and logos do not want to show the business process name.

Key Resources

Arithmetic Methods for Integer and Float Data Types in Expressions

Arithmetic methods are available in expressions to perform basic mathematical operations on Integer and Float data type values.

The following methods can be used for this purpose:

  • Add
  • Subtract
  • Multiply
  • Divide
  • Modulo

Business Benefit: Some derived properties and property transformations need to perform math operations on integer and float values in an expression to calculate the proper result.

Key Resources

Create Unbound Dimensions for Custom Data Sets

Unbound dimensions can be created in an application to manage data sets which are not natively handled by the adapter for a particular application type. These dimensions are created in application inspector and support user defined node types, hierarchy sets, node sets, viewpoints, and properties to model the enterprise data within the dimensions. Data can be loaded into unbound dimension viewpoints using request files and distributed to consuming systems using extracts.

Business Benefit: Complex data sets such as related value sets, account combinations, and multi-dimensional mappings may need to be maintained in Enterprise Data Management but are not supported by an application adapter. These data sets can be modeled and managed within unbound dimensions.

Key Resources

Custom Validations Report

A Custom Validations Report provides a complete listing of validations for all node types and hierarchy sets to easily identify which custom validations have been defined.  Custom validations can be filtered by application, dimension, node type, or hierarchy set. You can inspect a validation from the report to view more details or make changes to the validation.

Business Benefit: Users, with the Owner permission to the application or dimension, who are managing custom validations need a way to view validations which have been defined across all applications and dimensions. This allows them to determine which validations have been configured and if changes are necessary.

Key Resources

Derived Values and Property Transformations for List Data Type Properties

List data type properties can be configured with an expression to derive a value or transform a value for a property using custom business logic. Use the Derived default type for List properties to derive property values for specific applications and node types. Setup a property transformation for a List property in a node type converter to calculate a value when sharing, mapping, and synchronizing nodes across applications.

Business Benefit: List property values can be calculated using business logic rather than manually defining them resulting in reduced maintenance and improved data quality.

Key Resources

Disable Existing Subscriptions for Viewpoint

Subscriptions can be disabled to prevent new subscription requests from being generated without the need to delete the subscriptions from their viewpoints. Existing subscription requests will remain and can continue to be processed while a subscription is disabled. Disabled subscriptions can be enabled again when necessary or deleted if no longer required.

Business Benefit: Disabling a subscription allows a user with the Owner permission to the application or dimension to stop changes from being synchronized from a source to target viewpoint.  This may be necessary when attempting to compare and manually align the viewpoints or isolate and resolve unexpected changes.

Key Resources

Download Subscriptions Report to File

The Subscriptions Report can be downloaded to a file to retain a local copy or share with other parties outside of Enterprise Data Management Cloud. The downloaded file contains the same information that is displayed in the user interface.

Business Benefit: Subscription report users need a way to access the information offline, keep a point-in-time copy, or share it with others.

Key Resources

Enrich Request Items During Approval

Request items can be enriched by approvers during the Approve stage of a request. This allows users who are involved in a request after submission to make corrections or additional changes to the request items based on their Write data access. The Allow Enrichment During Approval option can be enabled for specific approval policies where enrichment is necessary. Enrichment may result in additional required approvals for a request based on the changes that are made and the approval policies which are active.

Business Benefit: Some approvers need the ability to make changes to request items while approving a request.

Key Resources

Filter Archived Dimensions and Viewpoints

Archived dimensions are hidden on the Dimensions tab in the application inspector. The Show Archived filter can be used to display archived dimensions to view their details and set them back to active status if necessary. Archived dimensions are also hidden on the Import, Export, and Extract screens.

Archived viewpoints are hidden on the Viewpoints tab in the view inspector. The Show Archived filter can be used to display archived viewpoints to see their details and change them back to active status if desired.

Business Benefit: Archived dimensions and viewpoints that are no longer used should be hidden during normal user activity. The filter can be used to view archived dimensions and viewpoints when required.

Key Resources

Global Connections to Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning Cloud and Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud

Global connections can be defined to Oracle ERP Cloud and Oracle EPM Cloud in order to share data with those external applications using dimension extracts in Enterprise Data Management. Oracle ERP Cloud connections send data to a Universal Content Management document account for use by an File Based Data Import process. Oracle EPM Cloud connections send data to an Enterprise Performance Management inbox for use by a metadata import process. These connection types can be restricted for use by specific Enterprise Data Management applications.

Business Benefit: Global connections to Oracle ERP Cloud can be used to transfer data such as account combinations, mapping sets, and related value sets for import into Financials Cloud. Global connections to Oracle EPM Cloud can be used by Universal applications which manage dimensions for the Account Reconciliation business process.

Key Resources

Inspect Request Items and Delete Individual Request Actions

Request items can be inspected directly from the request details pane in an open view. This displays all of the actions for the request item along with the user who made each change. Individual request actions can be deleted from an item in the request inspector based on a user's data access, and validation issues are now displayed for each action in the request inspector.

Business Benefit: Request users sometimes need to identify the individual actions for a specific request item. In cases where multiple users have made changes to the same request item, it is helpful to know which user made a particular change. In some situations, changes which were made in a request need to be removed. The ability to delete a request item or item instance was previously available, but those operations remove all actions for a particular node or node instance. Sometimes a user only wants to remove individual changes.

Key Resources

Match Nodes Across Viewpoints Using Alternate Name

Alternate names can be defined for nodes in viewpoints in cases where similar nodes have completely different primary names across multiple applications. Nodes can matched using their alternate name during a locate or compare operation. The Core.Alternate Name property can be added to node types where nodes will use alternate names. Alternate name values can be imported, loaded from a request file, copied or transformed from another viewpoint, or manually entered. Locate and compare operations across viewpoints will attempt to use alternate names where they are defined when a node cannot be matched using its primary name.

Business Benefit: Alternate names allow you to find a similar node in a viewpoint where its primary name is different. It also enables nodes with different primary names to be treated as similar nodes when identifying differences during a comparison.

Key Resources

Original Request and Subscription Links in Request Inspector

The inspector for a subscription request includes links to the original request and the subscription(s) which generated the request items for the subscription request. You can navigate to the original request to get more details about the source changes including user comments and attachments. You can also inspect the subscriptions for the request to better understand how the changes originated.

Business Benefit: When reviewing a subscription request, users may need more information about how the changes in the request originated. This includes being able to view the details of the original request as well as the subscriptions which generated the subscription request.

Key Resources

  • Inspecting Requests in Administering and Working with Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud

Participant Permission and Granular Data Access by Action and Property

The Browser and Submitter permissions for users and groups have been combined into a single permission named Participant, which can be assigned at the application, dimension, node type, or hierarchy set level. Participants can view data as well as submit and enrich requests based on their data access.

The Participant permission can be configured with Read or Write data access. Data access can be filtered to specific request actions and properties at the node type or hierarchy set level. Each property can be configured as displayed, editable, or hidden.

Business Benefit: Application and dimension owners need to assign users with limited access to read and write data. This includes the ability to restrict users from performing certain types of changes or viewing specific properties.

Key Resources

Recall Requests Awaiting Approval

In Flight requests in the Approve stage can be recalled by the submitting user to make changes to request items or withdraw the request entirely. When a recall is performed, approvals are cleared and the request is returned to the Submit stage. The original submitter is reassigned the request where they can modify the request and resubmit it, or delete the request if it is no longer needed.

Business Benefit: Users who have submitted requests sometimes need to make changes to a request which have not yet been approved. Instead of asking an approver to push back the request, the submitter would like the ability to recall the request without having to involve the approver.

Key Resources

  • Recalling a Request in Administering and Working with Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud

Reconnect Parents, Header/Footer, and Zip File Options in Dimension Extracts

Additional options are available for dimension extracts to further customize the results of an extract process. The Reconnect Parents option outputs the closest ancestor that is not excluded by the node filter expression in the Parent column for each extracted node. The Custom Header and Footer options allow for user-defined text to be output at the beginning or end of the extract file. The Zip File option enables the extract file to be compressed and output in a zip file format.

Business Benefit: These additional extract options can be used to produce a variety of different file formats required by external systems which consume enterprise data from Enterprise Data Management.

Key Resources

Reference Node Data Type Properties in Expressions

Node data type properties can be used in expressions for derived properties, property transformations, custom validations, policy filters, and subscription filters. The Name and Description of the node referenced in the property are available for evaluation in the expression. You can also check to see if the property has a value using the IsNull attribute.

Business Benefit: Some customers have business rules or policies which are based on information for a node referenced in a Node data type property. An example is a validation which ensures a Node data type property can only have specific values under certain conditions.

Key Resources

Request Title Included in Transaction History

Request titles are included in transaction history to provide more information about the requests which produced the transactions. The request title is displayed on the Audit page as well as included in the output file when downloading transaction history.

Business Benefit: Including the request title allows users to better understand which transactions came from which requests without having to inspect each request to get that information.

Key Resources

REST API to Dimension Import, Export, and Export Mappings by Name

New REST API endpoints are available to import dimensions, export dimensions, and export dimension mappings based on the name of an application, dimension, and connection. This eliminates the need to call additional endpoints beforehand in order to get the IDs of an application and dimension that will be imported or exported and the connection that will be used.

Business Benefit: Integration processes which perform imports and exports need a way to run these operations in a more simplistic manner.

Key Resources

Role Information

  • Service Administrators

REST API to Download Transaction History

A REST API endpoint is available to download transaction history to a file in an automated manner using a programmable interface. The endpoint provides the same filtering capabilities and output format that is used on the Audit page in the user interface.

Business Benefit: Application owners want to periodically download transaction history to share with other parties in the organization and have a way to automate that process.

Key Resources

Role Information

  • Service Administrators

REST API to Upload, List, and Delete Files in the Staging Area

REST API endpoints are available to upload, list, and delete files in an Enterprise Data Management staging area. Upload files to the staging area for import into an application dimension. List files in the staging area to identify which files currently exist. Delete files from the staging area to remove files which have already been downloaded or are no longer needed.

Business Benefit: Integration processes need a way to upload and manage files in the staging area used by import, export, and extract operations.

Set Archived View Back to Active Status

A previously archived view can be set back to Active status to allow it to be visible and used again. Once a view has been reactivated, archived viewpoints in the view can be changed back to active.

Business Benefit: View owners sometimes archive views to temporarily hide them from other users. They want to be able to reactivate these views once they no longer need to be hidden.

Key Resources

Subscription Indicator on Viewpoints

A subscription indicator is included in the popup that is displayed when hovering over a viewpoint tab in an open view. This indicator identifies which viewpoints in a view subscribe to other source viewpoints and guides users to those viewpoints that should be receiving changes as part of a subscription request.

Business Benefit: Users want to be able to easily identify viewpoints in a view which are expected to receive changes synchronized from other source viewpoints.

Key Resources

Suffix for Node Type Qualifiers

Suffixes can be used for node type qualifiers to make node names unique within an application or dimension for referential integrity purposes. Default and alternate qualifiers support both prefixes and suffixes. This allows node names which use suffixes for uniqueness purposes in one application to be matched with similar nodes in another applications where the suffix is not used.

Business Benefit: Similar nodes existing in different node types where they have different naming conventions need to be properly located, compared, and synchronized across viewpoints.

Key Resources

Tools Cluster on Home Page

The Enterprise Data Management Home page includes a Tools cluster which contains the Access Control, Migration, Daily Maintenance, and Appearance cards that were previously available as well as the new Clone Snapshot card. The Tools cluster is displayed and accessible to Service Administrators only.

Business Benefit: The Tools cluster groups related modules together and reduces the number of cards displayed on the Home page and in the filmstrip to reduce scrolling.

Request Object in Expressions for Validations, Policies, and Subscriptions

Information about the current request can be accessed in an expression for a custom validation, policy filter, or subscription filter. This allows for different behavior based on the characteristics of a particular request. The following request attributes are available:

  • Title
  • Description
  • Owner
  • Status
  • Stage
  • Type
  • IsNull

Business Benefit: In some cases, validations, policies, or subscriptions need to behave differently for some requests versus other requests. Examples include custom validations based on the type of request or approval policies based on who submitted the request.

Key Resources

Financial Consolidation and Close

New Videos

Two new videos are now available.

Overview: Translations and Calculations in Financial Consolidation and Close

When consolidation is carried out, the calculations in all the three tabs of the Consolidation Process screen are used. This overview explains how the calculations in the Translated tab of the Consolidation Process screen are handled during consolidation.

Setting Up Movements and Cash Flow in Financial Consolidation and Close

Learn how to add user-defined members to track movements in the Movement dimension, and to configure the Cash Flow hierarchy for cash flow reports, for Financial Consolidation and Close.

Business Benefit: Videos provide 3-5 minute overviews and step-by step instructions to perform tasks and achieve an outcome.

New Consolidation Dimension Members

If Ownership Management is enabled in your application, new dimension members have been added to the Consolidation dimension.

The new members are:

  • FCCS_Entity_Proportion Adj (alias Entity Proportion Adjustment)
  • FCCS_Entity Total Adj (alias Entity Total Adjustment). This is the parent member of Entity Elimination Adjustment and Entity Proportion Adjustment

These members will be used to adjust consolidated data when required by a change in consolidation method to a less restrictive method (e.g. from Equity to Subsidiary). This system logic is not yet fully functional and is not currently applied to proportionalization. Some clients might have seen unexpected entries in the existing Entity Elimination Adjustment member and you can disable these calculations by using the Substitution Variable named DisableEPA and setting it to True, pending completion of the full functionality. However, the new dimension members are always created for all applications that have Ownership Management enabled.

Business Benefit: This feature will provide adjustments required due to changes from more restrictive consolidation methods to less restrictive methods.

Key Resources

Change to Default Translation Sequence

In this update, the sequence in which Financial Consolidation and Close executes translation steps has changed. Translation Override rules are now executed before Translation Override entries. If you want to retain the older translation sequence, you can create a Substitution Variable named skipTransRulesIfOverrideRatesExist and set the value to False.

Business Benefit: The new default translation sequence may reduce the need to amend a translation rule when applying an override amount or rate that occurs within the scope of the translation rule.

Key Resources

Performance Substitution Variables

The OptimizeConcurrency, DeltaDBRefresh, and OluRatesLoad substitution variables can be enabled to improve performance.

  • OptimizeConcurrency = True

This substitution variable improves concurrency of the consolidation process by executing some of the calculations at the very beginning or at the end. The degree of improvement depends on the entity structure of a given customer. Customers with deeper entity hierarchies will benefit the most.

  • DeltaDBRefresh = True

This substitution variable improves database refresh performance by doing only necessary actions based on metadata change. Not applicable for Legacy Non “Extended Dimensionality” applications.

  • OLURatesLoad = True

This substitution variable improves refresh database performance. The more scenarios, currencies and rate accounts in an application, the more noticeable the improvement will be. Please note, in previous months, this variable was incorrectly capitalized; OLURatesLoad is correct.

NOTE: The degree of performance improvement varies widely across different applications as it is purely driven by the application design and data distribution.

Business Benefit: These substitution variables help in improving performance.

IMPORTANT Actions and Considerations

UPCOMING CHANGE TO SMART VIEW AD HOC BEHAVIOR SETTING

Within the next few months, all customers will be defaulted to "Standard" mode instead of "Native" mode for the Smart View Ad Hoc Behavior option in Application Settings. "Standard" mode provides additional features like multiple-grid support, in-sheet POV, submit without refresh, and other features. Since this will cause a change in user interaction expectations, customers who wish to continue with "Native" ad hoc behavior can, at that time, change their application setting for Smart View Ad Hoc Behavior to "Native" mode.

Please note that "Native" mode in Smart View Ad Hoc Behavior will eventually be phased out. We recommend that all customers switch their applications to "Standard" mode ad hoc behavior soon.

REMOVAL OF STRATEGIC WORKFORCE PLANNING FROM EPM CLOUD WORKFORCE PLANNING

In the June 2021 release (21.06), the Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) enablement option will be removed for all EPM Cloud Planning Modules (Standard and Enterprise) and EPBCS applications that have not already enabled this feature in the Workforce Module. Customers who have already enabled this feature will see no change in their existing applications with this feature already enabled. No new applications will support this feature after this change.

Strategic Workforce Planning functionality is provided in the Strategic Workforce Planning Cloud Service (SWPCS) product, which contains robust SWP functionality that is not available in the existing EPM Cloud Planning Workforce module feature. SWPCS is an Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM) product built on EPM technology. For more information about SWPCS, please refer to the Strategic Workforce Planning information on www.oracle.com.

If you have any concerns about this change, please contact Oracle Support.

LOANER PROGRAM FOR CLOUD INFRASTRUCTURE GENERATION 2 TESTING

Oracle EPM Cloud is now live on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Gen 2 environments. If you are interested in testing your application performance on an OCI Gen 2 environment, open a service request following the process at https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/saas/enterprise-performance-management-common/tsepm/op_procs_loaner_envs.html and request for a loaner environment in an OCI Gen 2 data center for a duration of 30 days with the business justification as “Want to test application performance in an OCI Gen 2 data center”.

After you have performed the testing, submit Provide Feedback from the loaner environment. Create a service request using the normal support process, if you have any issues or feedback for the OCI Gen 2 environment.

For more information, see What is a Gen 2 Cloud?

IMPORT SNAPSHOT - CHANGE OF BEHAVIOR

Importing snapshot will no longer reset the daily maintenance start time of the target environment to that of the environment from which the snapshot was taken. The import process will honor the maintenance start time set for the target environment.

Starting with the 21.02 update the behavior of the import process was changed to update the daily maintenance start time of the target environment to that of the source environment. Oracle is reverting this behavior based on customer feedback.

See these information sources if you need to change the daily maintenance start time:

RUNBUSINESSRULE EPM AUTOMATE COMMAND - CHANGE OF BEHAVIOR

Starting with the 21.05 update, the runBusinessRule EPM Automate command will no longer let you run a ruleset against Planning, Planning Modules, Financial Consolidation and Close, and Tax Reporting applications. Instead, you should use the runRuleSet command to launch business rulesets using EPM Automate.

If you currently use scripts that use the runBusinessRule command to launch rulesets, you must modify them to use the runRuleSet command.

REMOVAL OF SOME UNUSED MIGRATION OPTIONS

In an upcoming update, Oracle plans to remove some unused or rarely used options from the Import Options screen in Migration. Because EPM Cloud implicitly handles Essbase cube restructure and overwriting of artifacts, the Essbase Application - Overwrite Artifacts and Essbase Application - Restructure Cube options had no effect in EPM Cloud. These options will no longer be displayed. The Data Management - Skip Validation option will use the default value of false while the Groups and Membership - Max Error Threshold option will use 100 as the default value.

Proposed Changes to the Import Options Screen

Please note that only some of these options were applicable to some business processes.

The removal of these options is not expected to have any impact on customers. Tentative plans call for this change to be introduced with the 21.05 update. If you have any concerns about this change, please contact Oracle Support.

SUPPORT FOR COMPOSITE FORMS IN EPM CLOUD

Starting in May 2021, Oracle EPM Cloud plans to stop official support for composite forms. Customers are advised to convert existing composite forms to EPM Cloud dashboards and log any issues with Support.

STRATEGIC MODELING TERMINOLOGY CHANGE

In a future update, the Consolidation feature in Strategic Modeling will be renamed Scenario Rollup.

NEW VALIDATION FOR MEMBER SOLVE ORDER IN PROFITABILITY AND COST MANAGEMENT

A new validation for the Member Solver Order member property has been implemented in this update. The valid range for this property is now from 0 to 120. If you currently have any members that have a value for Member Solve Order that is greater than 120, when you edit those members in Dimension Management, you will be required to correct the value in order to save your other changes for that member. In Update Dimensions, LCM Import, and Template Import, for any members being updated or imported with a value for Member Solver Order that is greater than 120, the value will automatically be changed to 120 and you will receive a warning message.

ACCOUNT RECONCILIATION TABLE CHANGES POTENTIALLY AFFECT CUSTOM REPORTS

Starting in the 21.02 update, the ARM_SUMMARY_AMOUNTS table was replaced by the ARM_BALANCE_TOTALS table. Any Account Reconciliation custom reports referencing ARM_SUMMARY_AMOUNTS need to be updated. For details, see ARM_BALANCE_TOTALS table in Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud Tables and Views for Account Reconciliation.

NEW EXTENDACCOUNTSCOPE SUBSTITUTION VARIABLE IN FINANCIAL CONSOLIDATION AND CLOSE

In the 20.11 update, a new feature was introduced in Financial Consolidation and Close to extend the Account scope of Translation and Consolidation Logic. Previously not all system rules were applied consistently to all accounts outside of the “FCCS_Balance Sheet” hierarchy. This has now been updated to apply the same system rules to all relevant accounts regardless of their position in the Account dimension hierarchy.

The most notable change is the calculation of Opening Balance and Foreign Exchange Variance on Revenue and Expense accounts with the exception of Income Statement accounts and Revenue and Expense accounts within Total Other Comprehensive Income. The opening balance and foreign exchange variance calculations for these accounts has not changed and are still redirected to FCCS_REC_OBFXCTA and FCCS_OR_OBFXCICTA respectively.

Prior to the change, the movement of Revenue and Expense accounts with a time-balance attribute of Flow could be reported from FCCS_Movements, FCCS_ClosingBalance, FCCS_Mvmts_Total or FCCS_Mvmts_Subtotal. With the new behavior, the same movement data for the account can be reported from FCCS_Mvmts_Subtotal, with Opening Balance and Foreign Exchange Variance included in the other subtotals.

Note that this feature may have an impact on your application due to certain customizations/configurations, and you may need to update reports and forms, etc. If you need to revert to the old system behavior that was in place before this feature was implemented, you can create a Substitution Variable named “ExtendAccountScope” and set it to “False”. This will revert to the system behavior from prior to the implementation of the enhancement. If this substitution variable does not exist, or exists but is not set to “False”, then the new behavior will apply.

SMART VIEW ADD-ON INSTALLATION FOR TASK MANAGER AND SUPPLEMENTAL DATA MANAGER

In an upcoming release, the installation of Smart View add-ons for Task Manager and Supplemental Data Manager will change. At that time, users of the Smart View add-ons will need to uninstall and re-install their add-ons to take advantage of the latest features and fixes.
