EPM Cloud Common

This section contains announcements related to the common EPM Cloud components such as EPM Automate, Migration, Access Control, Data Integration, and Smart View for Office.

New Topics in EPM Cloud Operations Guide

The Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud Operations Guide has been enhanced with additional topics.

New topics include:

  • Enrolling in the Implementation Success Program
  • Requesting Performance Validation
  • Requesting Automated Regression Testing
  • Requesting an Increase in Profitability and Cost Management Governor Limits
  • Fixing Smart View Issues

Key Resources

EPM Automate Updates

A new version of EPM Automate with support for Narrative Reporting is available. Other changes in this version include support for encrypting the passwords used in the replay command and the removal of XLS as a report output format for report generation commands affecting Consolidation and Close, Tax Reporting, and Account Reconciliation business processes.

The XLS report output option has been removed for these commands:

  • runComplianceReport
  • runMatchingReport
  • runSupplementalDataReport
  • runTaskMangerReport

Additionally, Working with EPM Automate for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud has been enhanced with Windows and Linux/UNIX scripts to replicate users and predefined role assignments across identity domains.

Key Resources

IDENTITY_DOMAIN As a Required Parameter No Longer Needed for the EPM Automate Login Command

EPM Automate login command no longer requires the use of IDENTITY_DOMAIN as a required parameter. Instead of obtaining the identity domain name from the IDENTITY_DOMAIN parameter, EPM Automate calculates it automatically from the URL parameter. Any value you set for this optional parameter is ignored. Existing scripts that contain this value are not affected.

REST API to Review Rejected Data After Import

When using a REST API to import data, you can now review rejected data after import. To do this, specify an error file that captures the data records that are not imported. If an error file is specified, the zip file is stored in the Outbox where you can download the file using Inbox/Outbox Explorer or tools like EPM Automate or REST APIs.

NOTE: This applies to Planning, Financial Consolidation and Close, and Tax Reporting.

This helps you import data more effectively when using REST APIs.

Tips And Considerations

In April, 2020, we introduced the ability for you to review rejected metadata after import. With this update, you can also review rejected data.

Key Resources

  • Import Data in REST API for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud

Role Information

  • Service Administrators

Updates to REST API for Importing Data Slices

The importdataslice REST API has been enhanced to include cells with invalid data in the list of rejected cells. Previously, invalid data in a cell was not imported but it was not reported as rejected.

NOTE: This applies to Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, and Tax Reporting.

This feature makes the import process more efficient and helps you optimize your data slice imports.

Key Resources

Role Information

  • Service Administrators

Data Integration: New Replace Methods Available for Non-Administrator Users

A new Replace for Non Admin Load Method setting in Application Details enables you to select how non-administrators can load data to Planning in Replace mode.

Available methods now include:

  • None—Perform no replace.
  • Numeric Data Only—Perform replace when the load method is numeric data only.
  • All Load Methods—Perform replace for all load methods.

Application Details Page

The Replace for Non Admin Load Method setting extends the options for non-administrators when the load method is all data types with security.  Prior to this update, non-administrators could only load numeric data with the Replace mode.

Key Resources

  • Defining Target Options in Oracle® Cloud Administering Data Integration for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud

Data Integration: New Round Function Available for Amount Dimension in Import Expressions

The new Round function enables you to round a source value to a fixed number of decimals. You specify its parameters by selecting the Round function for the Amount dimensions in target expressions.  A precision value from -12 to 12 can be specified in the Round function.

Round Parameters Page

Rounding numbers makes them simpler to represent when an approximation suffices and an exact representation is not required.

Key Resources

  • Round in Administering Data Integration for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud

Support for Adding Links to Web Pages in Navigation Flow Cards and Tabs in EPM Cloud

Business process designers can now customize navigation flows to link cards and tabs to a web page; for example, you can add a URL to embed an Oracle Analytics Cloud dashboard in a card or tab. This feature applies only to Planning, Financial Consolidation and Close, and Tax Reporting.

You can edit navigation flow cards, tabs, and sub tabs, to provide the URL for a web page. The URL can then be validated in a popup window before the update is saved.

The new URL option is visible when specifying content for navigation flow cards, tabs, and sub tabs on the Add Card, Add New Tab, and Add New Sub Tab pages. To view the navigation flows for your business process, click Tools, and then click Navigation Flows.

Key Resources

In your EPM Cloud Administering guide:

New Server Settings in Financial Reporting Web Studio

Two new server settings are now available in Financial Reporting Web Studio.

  • Cleanup Batch Jobs Older Than: Defines how long a batch job and its files are retained in the repository, before its deletion.
  • Batch Cleanup Process Interval: Defines the interval between batch cleanup.

These server settings automate batch cleaning after a certain period of time so that you don't have to have to clean up batches manually.

Key Resources

Ability to Delete All Batch Job Output from the Repository That Is Not Stored in an Internal Folder

A new menu option, Delete Batch Jobs Results (From Internal Folder), is now available on the Edit menu in the Batch Scheduler. This option deletes all batch job output that is stored in an internal folder from the repository (including PDF and HTML files).

Over time, the HRInternal directory becomes very large, and old batch job output data causes the database response time to slow down. The Delete Batch Jobs Results (From Internal Folder) option helps remedy this issue.

Key Resources

Activity Report Highlights Slow User Interface Request Characteristics

The Activity Report has been enhanced to provide better information on the user interface requests that may be performing slow in an environment. Oracle has replaced the Average Duration, Min Duration, and Max Duration columns in the Percentage of UI Requests over 2 Seconds table with columns that identify the percentage of requests that ran for a ranges of time periods (0-2 Sec %, 2-10 Sec %, 11-30 Sec %, and 31+ Sec %).

Current User Interface Request by Duration Metrics

New User Interface Request by Total Duration Metrics

Additionally, to maintain consistency, the Top 7 User Interface Requests by Duration table has been renamed as Top 7 User Interface Requests by Total Duration.

Account Reconciliation

Removal of .XLS Format As Report Export Option

Using .xls as a report output format has been removed for Account Reconciliation reports. Customers who have built custom reports must ensure that their reports will export as desired to one of the remaining formats: csv, csv (formatted), xlsx, pdf, or html. Note that the .xls format is also no longer a format option for generating Account Reconciliation reports using REST API or EPM Automate.

Key Resources

Improvements to Handling of Transaction Matching Supporting Details

The improvements to the handling of supported transactions during the match process include:

  • Supporting details, entered by a preparer explaining the valid reason for not matching during Auto Match, are now retained in Account Reconciliation after the transaction is matched.
  • Supporting details are now tied to the workflow of the period end reconciliation. If a preparer deletes transaction matching supporting details that are associated with a period-end reconciliation, then that period-end reconciliation will be re-opened to the preparer. Preparers can still add comments or file attachments to existing supporting details, it is only the removal of details that would cause a reconciliation to re-open.

Key Resources

Enterprise Data Management

Conditional Approval Policies

Approval policies can be configured with filters to conditionally require approvals for request items which meet certain criteria. The Actions filter controls which request actions must be approved and the Node Condition filter controls the nodes which need to be approved for the policy. Additional approval policies can be created with different filters to handle conditional approvals of specific data sets by different users.

Conditional approval policies can be used for situations where only certain types of changes for specific nodes need to be approved by another party.

Key Resources

Create Map Bindings and Mapping Keys Moved to Bindings

Bindings used for managing mappings can be created for dimensions in the Dimension inspector. When a map binding is created, a new data chain (hierarchy set, node set, and viewpoint) is automatically generated for the dimension binding using the node types specified. This eliminates the need to manually create these mapping data chain objects. Bound mapping viewpoints and mapping keys are now configured in the Binding inspector for a map binding. These parameters were previously defined in the Dimension inspector for each dimension.

This feature provides an easy way to set up data chain objects and configure parameters used for mapping purposes since application registration does not include mapping set up.

Key Resources

Custom Application Type Renamed as Universal

The Custom application type has been renamed to Universal. The Universal application type provides the same functionality that the Custom type did previously. Universal applications are intended for use with integrated systems for which there is no packaged application type.

The rename of the application type provides a better indication of the abilities of this application type.

Key Resources

Custom Namespace for Properties in Universal Application Registration

New properties that are created for Universal type applications are defined in the Custom namespace only. This prevents potential conflicts with properties in other namespaces which originate from application registration for a different application type.

You can create new properties for Universal applications without creating conflicts between the new properties and those predefined as part of the application type.

Key Resources

Derived Default Values for Data Storage Properties in EPM Cloud Applications

Default values for cube-specific Data Storage properties in EPM Cloud applications are now derived based on the primary Data Storage property. This setup allows the cube-specific properties to use the same value as the primary property without manual definition of values or additional configuration of expressions.

The following application types are pre-configured in this manner:

  • Financial Consolidation and Close
  • Planning
  • Planning Modules

This feature simplifies the maintenance of data values because cube-specific Data Storage properties in EPM Cloud applications will default to the same value as the primary Data Storage property.

Key Resources

Disable Validations for Dimensions of Packaged Application Types

Validations that are included with packaged application types can be disabled to meet specific business needs. Validations can be individually disabled and re-enabled for each dimension of an application.

These application types allow pre-packaged validations to be disabled:

  • E-Business Suite General Ledger
  • Financial Consolidation and Close
  • Financials Cloud General Ledger
  • Planning
  • Planning Modules

If you are only using certain product features of a target system or are using a packaged adapter with a related application type (such as on-premise Planning), this allows you to disable validations that are not required for your business purposes.

Key Resources

GreaterThan and LessThan Methods for Strings in Expressions

Additional methods are available for expression terms of a String data type to compare string values based on their alphanumeric sort order. The new methods are GreaterThan, GreaterThanOrEqual, LessThan, and LessThanOrEqual.

Some business rules on string values need to identify whether a string value is before, in between, or after another string.  An example is a validation which ensures the name of a child node is within a specific range of values.

Key Resources

Hybrid Mode Support for EPM Cloud Applications

Hybrid Mode support can be enabled in application registration for an EPM Cloud application. This option configures additional properties for BSO cubes in the EPM Cloud application to be managed in Enterprise Data Management.

Hybrid Mode is a popular feature for EPM Cloud application cubes used to improve calculation performance and allows you to manage dimensions for Hybrid Mode applications in Enterprise Data Management.

Key Resources

Import and Export Options for Null and Empty Values

Import and export options are available to better handle null and empty string values that are being imported or exported.

These new options can be set for an application dimension:

  • Ignore Empty Fields on Import
  • Clear Value Keyword for Import
  • Export Keyword for Null Values
  • Export Keyword for Empty Strings

When importing data into Enterprise Data Management, you may need different handling for null values and empty fields coming from the import source. When exporting data from Enterprise Data Management, you may need different handling of null values and empty strings when output to the export target.

Key Resources

Improved Comparison of Null Values in Expressions

The Equals method available for several data types in expressions now handles the comparison of null values. When comparing two null values, the Equals method returns True. When comparing a null value and non-null value, the Equals method returns False.

When comparing properties in an expression, it is useful to treat two null values as the same rather than being different.

Key Resources

Localized Email Notifications

Email notifications are translated to the language selected in the Language user preference for each user. If no language preference is set, the email content will be in the default language for the service.

This allows users to display email notifications in their language of choice.

Key Resources

Locations and AllAncestors for Node Object in Expressions

New expression fields are available for the Node and SourceNode objects to access information for shared nodes within an expression. Locations returns a list of shared node locations in a viewpoint. AllAncestors returns a list of ancestor nodes for all locations of a shared node in a viewpoint.

The following methods are available for Locations and AllAncestors:

  • Any()
  • Count()
  • Find()

This is useful if you have business rules based on information for a shared node across multiple locations and hierarchies. An example is a validation which prevents shared nodes under a common top node.

Key Resources

Move and Add Children to Predefined Members in EPM Cloud Dimensions

Nodes in EPM Cloud dimensions with Enterprise Predefined Member = True can be moved to different parents in the hierarchy and have child nodes added below them using requests.

These actions were previously restricted but are now supported for these application types:

  • Financial Consolidation and Close
  • Planning Modules

The Financial Consolidation and Close and Planning Module business processes in EPM Cloud allow these types of changes to be made to predefined members in their dimensions. This update provides the same capability in Enterprise Data Management.

Key Resources

Nested Derived Property Expressions

Derived property expressions can now reference other derived properties to evaluate and calculate values. Circular references between derived properties are prevented and expressions that have circular references cannot be saved.

Derived properties can be selected for the following expression terms:

  • Node
  • Node.parent
  • Node.ancestors
  • Node.allAncestors
  • Node.locations

In some cases, it's necessary for one derived property to reference one or more other derived properties. This nesting of expressions allows for more advanced logic to be defined and enables sharing of logic across derived properties.

Key Resources

Notification Policies for Completed Requests

Notification policies allow additional users to receive email notifications when requests are completed to make them aware of changes made to specific views and viewpoints. A notification policy can be set up for an application, dimension, node type, or hierarchy set.  Users and groups can be included in the notification policy. Filters are available to only send notifications for requests which meet specific conditions.

Users who manage or consume enterprise data need to be aware of changes made by other users but may not need to be involved to approve, enrich, or review the requests.

Key Resources

Out of Office Indicator on Home Page

An information icon is displayed on the Home page when the current user has set the Out of Office user preference. This indicator reminds the user the preference is set and that no requests are being assigned to them. You can access user preferences directly from the indicator to disable the setting.

Users who have set the Out of Office user preference may need to be reminded to turn it off so they can have requests assigned to them again.

Key Resources

Permissions and Policies Report

Permissions and policies reports provide a comprehensive view of permissions and policy types which have been assigned to users and groups across all applications. Reports can be filtered by data chain and permission. You can inspect data chain objects to view more details or make changes to the permissions and policies.

Permissions and policies reports provide application and dimension owners with an easy way to view user access across applications so they can appropriately set up access and modify it.

Key Resources

Refresh Requests Pane in Open View

Requests displayed in the Requests pane for an open view can be refreshed to see request changes resulting from concurrent users of the same view. A Refresh button is available on the Requests pane to refresh requests on demand.

Previously in order to view request changes from other concurrent users in the same view, you had to refresh the browser page or close and reopen the view. The Refresh button provides a faster way to see concurrent changes.

Key Resources

Search for Property Label in Properties Pane

In the Properties pane, you can search the properties of a selected node by the property label. This allows you to quickly find a particular property or multiple properties with a similar label.

In cases where a node has many properties, being able to search for a property label makes it easy to find the property you are looking for.

Key Resources

Set Time Zone User Preference

A Time Zone user preference can be set to display dates and times in the user interface and email notifications in a specific time zone. This enables users in different geographic locations to view information in their preferred time zone.

Users want to view date and time-related information in their local time zone.

Key Resources

Sibling Sort Order Property for Exports

The CoreStats.Sibling Sort Order property can be used with a Universal application dimension to output a numerical sort order for sibling nodes under a common parent node when exporting a hierarchy viewpoint. This sort order information can be used by another process to sort the hierarchy relationships for import into a target application to ensure the order is preserved.

This is useful for integration processes with external systems that need a way to sort hierarchy relationships based on a field of data in an export file.

Key Resources

Subscriptions Report

Subscriptions reports provide a complete listing of subscriptions for all views and applications to easily identify which subscriptions have been defined. Subscriptions can be filtered by data chain or view. You can inspect a subscription from the report to view more details or make changes to it.

Subscriptions reports provide application and dimension owners with an easy way to view subscriptions that have been defined across all views and applications. This report allows them to determine which subscriptions have been configured and if changes are necessary.

Key Resources

Suppress Export of Descendants for Shared Members in EPM Cloud Dimensions

For nodes in EPM Cloud dimension viewpoints where the Data Storage property is Shared, descendants of the nodes in the hierarchy are excluded from dimension export results. This prevents issues when importing the dimension members into the EPM Cloud application.

The following application types do not export descendants of shared members:

  • Financial Consolidation and Close
  • Planning
  • Planning Modules

In some cases, including descendants of shared members when importing a dimension into an EPM Cloud application will result in loading issues. This feature prevents those issues.

User Profile Image Displayed on Pages and Inspectors

User profile images are displayed on pages and inspectors in the user interface where Created By and Modified By information is presented.

Displaying the user profile image allows users to visually identify another user by their profile image instead of their name.

Key Resources

Validate Dimension Viewpoints on Export

The Validate Before Export setting configured for a dimension can control whether viewpoints should be validated at the time of export. When exporting a dimension or mappings for an application, viewpoint validations can be run and if there are validation issues, you can decide whether to be warned or discontinue the export.

You may want data to be validated before it is exported to an external system. While data is interactively validated when changed in a request, data may become invalid in other ways including inherited and derived values as well as from an import process. In cases when validations fail, you may want to resolve the validation issues before the data is exported.

Key Resources

Visualize and Navigate to Locations for Selected Node in Viewpoint

The Locations tab identifies all locations of a selected node in a hierarchy viewpoint. Multiple locations for the same node can be visualized together and you can navigate to any location where a node exists. Locations are grouped by parent and can be viewed in a collapsed or expanded format. Property values for each location can be displayed to determine similarities or differences across locations.

This feature is helpful for shared nodes that exist in multiple locations in a hierarchy viewpoint. It may be necessary to identify all of the locations, visually compare properties for the node in those locations, and navigate to the locations to browse or modify data.

Learn how to create Intercompany reports in Financial Consolidation and Close. You select entities and accounts for the report, define filters, set display options, and save report settings.

Removal of .XLS Format As Report Export Option

Using .xls as a report output format has been removed for Financial Close Consolidation’s Task Manager and Supplemental Data Manager reports. Customers who have built custom reports must ensure that their reports will export as desired to one of the remaining formats: csv, csv (formatted), xlsx, pdf, or html. Note that the .xls format is also no longer a format option for generating these reports using REST API or EPM Automate.

Key Resources

Supplemental Data Manager Form Enhancements

Supplemental Data Manager Forms have been enhanced to include bulk action capabilities, summarized view for multiple sections or sub-collections, and Smart View form-related enhancements.

  • Ability to perform bulk update on status. Using the Set Status option in Actions, users now have the ability to multi-select their forms within the Supplemental Data Tasks list, perform one action on the selection, and have all the selected forms updated.
  • Form enhancements. Forms with multiple sections or sub-collections now display in horizontal tabs. A new summarized view is enabled for multiple sections. Collapsible panels are enabled with persistent title and effective re-usable real estate for resizing.
  • Smart View support for non-default intervals, collections, and sub-collections. To support non-default collection intervals and forms with collections and sub-collections, the Smart View forms list panel has been enhanced. The Worklist now lists forms that are defined for non-default collection intervals as well as collections and sub-collections. A new node named Collections contains intermediate nodes based on the collection interval and data collection period, and collections and sub-collections are listed separately.

Performance Substitution Variables

The EnableSimpleAggregation, OptimizeDBRefresh, OptimizeYTDCalculation, and OptimizeConcurrency substitution variables can be enabled to improve performance:

  • EnableSimpleAggregation

This Substitution Variable improves the way that child entities are aggregated into parent entities. This Substitution Variable should be used in conjunction with the OptimizeYTDCalculation to improve consolidation performance.

  • OptimizeDBRefresh

This Substitution Variable improves the way that exchange rates are pushed to the consol cube during the database refresh.

  • OptimizeYTDCalculation

This Substitution Variable avoids redundant and repetitive calculations. This Substitution Variable should be used in conjunction with EnableSimpleAggregation to improve consolidation performance.

  • OptimizeConcurrency

This Substitution Variable improves concurrency of the consolidation process by executing some of the calculations at the very beginning or at the end. The degree of improvement depends on the entity structure of a given customer. Customers with deeper entity hierarchies will benefit the most.

In order to enable the Substitution Variables, set the parameter Cube = Consol, in addition to setting Value = true.

NOTE: The degree of performance improvement varies widely across different applications as it is purely driven by the application design and data distribution.

Forecasting with Auto Predict in EPM Cloud Planning

Learn how to set up an auto predict definition, and schedule a job to run that definition. You can use forms and dashboards to develop forecasts on the web, or you can use auto predict within Smart View. You can also use ad-hoc analysis in Smart View or the Web. See how to prefill a prediction scenario to jump start the forecasting process, and how to directly compare the system’s predictions to your ongoing forecast in real time. You compare predictions to Forecast and incorporate variance thresholds that require you to enter explanatory commentary. Also see how to seed plans or forecasts prior to starting the forecast cycle.

Analyzing Plans with Free Form Planning Applications

Learn how to perform ad hoc analysis in Free Form Planning applications. Free Form Planning enables you to deploy an application with no dimension requirements. The open dimensional solution allows you to create an application with a cube that follows a dimension combination required by your organization.

Run Predictions Automatically to Improve Forecasting Accuracy

With Auto Predict, administrators can define a prediction to predict future performance based on historical data and schedule a job to run that prediction definition, automating the prediction process.

Auto Predict uses the same forecasting and statistical methods as Predictive Planning, but unlike Predictive Planning, you aren’t limited to running a prediction on a form. You can predict values for thousands of cells at once, when needed, by scheduling a job, and automatically write prediction results to a scenario/version--in the same cube or in a different cube from the historical data. You can also include Best and Worst Case prediction results. When you run the prediction, historical data for each member in the Auto Predict definition is retrieved and then analyzed using time series forecasting techniques to predict the future performance for these members.

Use Auto Predict results in forms, dashboards, and in ad-hoc analysis. You can also use Auto Predict prediction results within Smart View.

You define a prediction to read historical data from a cube (typically an ASO cube) and write prediction results to the same cube or to a different cube, for example to a BSO cube where planning and forecasting is done.

High-level steps to create an Auto Predict definition:

  1. From the Home page, click Application, then click Overview, and then from the Actions menu, select Auto Predict.
  2. On the Auto Predict page, click Create.
  3. Select the cube that has the historical data; if you want to store prediction results in a different cube, select Cube to Cube.
  4. In the Analyze section, define the slice of data for the historical data source by selecting members for each dimension, and then specify how much historical data you have.
  5. In the Predict section, select members to define the target slice to store the prediction results, and specify how far you want prediction results to be calculated.
  6. Optionally, include Best Case and Worst Case results in the prediction.
  7. Click Save to save the Auto Predict definition.

You can run the job at any time from the Auto Predict page:

From the Actions menu next to the Auto Predict definition you want to run, select Run.

Or you can schedule a job to run the prediction at a pre-defined time.

To schedule an Auto Predict job:

  1. From the Home page, click Application and then click Jobs.
  2. Click Schedule Jobs, and then for What type of job is this?, select Auto Predict.
  3. Provide details for When do you want to run this job? and How often do you want to run this job? and then click Next.
  4. Select the Auto Predict definition to run and then click Next.
  5. Review the scheduled job description, and then click Finish.

Auto Predict is useful:

  • When you have large amounts of data to predict.
  • To jumpstart the forecasting process by pre-filling a prediction scenario with predictions based on historical data. Then, planners can compare predictions to forecasts.
  • For variance analysis. Seed a prediction scenario with prediction results, and compare predictions to forecast. To incorporate variance thresholds, you can define a groovy rule that requires planners to add explanatory commentary at a defined threshold, for example if the forecast is 5% greater than the prediction.
  • To pre-populate your Forecast or Plan scenarios before starting a forecast or planning cycle. Planners can use these prediction results as a starting point for their forecasts, and make adjustments as needed.
  • To keep predictions up-to-date as actuals come in by scheduling Auto Predict jobs. When new actuals come in, the job can run automatically to populate the cube; planners can see updated predictions and compare to forecast and plan.

Tips And Considerations

  • Auto Predict works with EPM Standard and EPM Enterprise applications for Custom and Module application types when Hybrid Essbase is enabled. For legacy applications, Auto Predict works with the Enterprise application type when the Essbase version is upgraded to the version that supports Hybrid Essbase and Hybrid Essbase is enabled.
  • Auto Predict works with custom time periods in Planning and alternate time periods in Planning modules - for example in Financials you can predict at both a weekly level and at a monthly level in the same application.
  • Prediction results are more accurate the more historical data you have. There should be at least twice the amount of historical data as the number of prediction periods.

Predictive Planning Now Supports Full POV Selection for Historical Data and Alternate Cubes for Historical Data and Prediction Data

When working with Predictive Planning in Planning and Planning modules, you can now select members from all dimensions when defining the POV for the historical data source. Previously you could select members only for Scenario and Version. You can select the POV for each cube in the application.

Additionally, you can select different cubes for source data (where historical actuals are stored) and predictions (the cube the forms are associated with where you want to perform predictions).

Select Predictive Planning options in Application Settings:

From the Home page, click Application and then click Settings.

Predictive Planning Application Settings

This enhancement is especially useful for performing predictions in Financials. In Financials, actuals are typically stored in the Load member of the Plan Element dimension. With this enhancement you can select the Load member for historical actuals, and select a different member for planning and predicting.

This enhancement also ensures that you can do the same predictions in Predictive Planning and in Auto Predict.

Tips And Considerations

  • After applying the update, if you had previously selected members for Scenario and Version, those members are selected in the POV for the relevant cube.
  • If you are using different cubes for source data and predictions, they must be in the same application.

  • For each prediction cube, you can specify a source cube (which can be the same as the prediction cube or a different cube) and the POV for the source cube. You can select the POV for each cube in the application.

Key Resources

Custom Dimensions with Sparse Dimensions Support

Strategic Modeling now allows you to build, manage, and assign sparse custom dimensions. Sparse custom dimensions allow users far more flexibility when designing their Strategic Modeling models. Dimension members can be assigned to accounts individually, while unrelated members can be excluded. This will help reduce the model size and increase performance and make the model account structure more relevant to the business needs.

You can create new custom dimensions or import custom dimensions from external .xlsx or .csv files. You can assign and filter the custom dimensions and their members as required.

To create a custom dimension, from the Models listing page, click the model you want to open, and from the Actions menu, select Open-Checkout. In the Account View, select Create Custom Dimensions from the Actions drop-down list.

NOTE: You can either create a new dimension using the Create Dimensions link or drag and drop or import the custom dimension file.

To assign a custom dimension, from the Models listing page, click the model you want to open, and from the Actions menu, select Open-Checkout. In the Account View ,select Assign Custom Dimensions from the Actions drop-down list.

NOTE: You can also assign another dimension file to the existing dimension file by clicking Select Another Dimension File.

Retrieve Substitution Variables and Update Values Using Groovy

You can now use Groovy to retrieve substitution variables at the plan type and application level. You can also update substitution variable values.

Substitution variables allow you to create global placeholders for information that changes regularly. For example, you could set the current month member to a substitution variable so that when the month changes you don't need to update the month value manually in a form.

Steps to Enable

Follow the steps to create a Groovy business rule in Creating a Groovy Business Rule in Designing with Calculation Manager. For a step-by-step tutorial on creating Groovy business rules, see Introduction to Groovy Business Rules and the other Groovy tutorials. Planning Data Map Enhancements

Planning data maps are enhanced with several performance improvements to benefit inter-module integration; for example, Workforce to Financials or Capital to Financials, where you don’t have to synchronize if you add an asset or new hire.

  • Planning data maps now automatically synchronize after the reporting cube is modified. You no longer need to manually synchronize Planning data maps when you add members to the application. Prior to this enhancement, if there were any changes to the outline of the target cube, you had to perform a synchronize action on data maps for the data maps to be executed successfully. With this enhancement, you no longer need to perform this step.
  • New validation check for empty member set dimensions in data maps. Validations have been added to check for empty member set dimensions. These validations are performed during data map creation and data push execution.
  • While defining data maps, you can now select dynamic parents with level 0 children without including the dynamic parent. Dynamic calc members in sparse dimensions are ignored during the data push operation.
  • Exclusion of a base member now also excludes any shared members. The same is true if you exclude a shared member; the base member is now also excluded.

New Asynchronous REST API for Generating the Program Documentation Report

A new asynchronous REST API for generating the program documentation report is available.

The original Generate Program Documentation Report REST API runs synchronously and can time out when running large reports.

The new Generate Program Documentation Report Job REST API runs as a job, which you can monitor in the Job Library. When the job completes, you can get the report from the Application => File Explorer tab.

This new API works better for generating large reports. The original API will be retained for now for backwards compatibility.

Tax Reporting

Applying Tax Rate Overrides for National and Regional Deferred Tax Calculations

Previously, only global level tax rates could be applied to the entire entity for Scenario, Year and Period; however, certain temporary difference accounts (such as Tax Losses) may be tax-affected at a reduced statutory rate based on revenue agency or country level regulations.

The Tax Reporting application now supports override tax rates for Temporary Difference Accounts. With this release, two new forms have been added to enable users to override global tax rates by applying a deferred tax override rate to a specific temporary difference Account:

  • Deferred Tax Override Rates (for National)
  • Deferred Tax Override Rates Regional

The feature is automatically enabled, however, if no Account override tax rate is entered then the appropriate Entity tax rate is applied.

Key Resources

New TAR Book Balance Form

With this release, the new TAR Book Balance form has been created to enable mapping for each Jurisdiction in the application, including No Jurisdiction (for National or all Regional) or individual Jurisdictions (for Regional) to correctly calculate the Ending Balance (as Per Books).

The Ending Balance as per Book is calculated based on the selected mapping and displayed after consolidation.

Key Resources

Removal of .XLS Format As Report Export Option

Using .xls as a report output format has been removed for Tax Reporting’s Task Manager and Supplemental Data Manager reports.

A new node called Collections contains intermediate nodes based on the collection interval and data collection period, and collections and sub-collections are listed separately.

IMPORTANT Actions and Considerations

FUTURE AVAILABILITY OF THE REDWOOD THEME

In a future update, EPM Cloud will offer a new Redwood appearance theme, in addition to the existing 13 themes available. The Redwood theme gives an enhanced look and feel in terms of colors and icons and brings consistency across Oracle Cloud.

Redwood will be the default theme for new instances, while existing instances will continue to see the current theme by default. You can switch to the Redwood theme from Tools > Appearance.

The following EPM Cloud business processes will have the option to select the new theme:

  • Account Reconciliation
  • Enterprise Data Management
  • Financial Consolidation and Close
  • Narrative Reporting
  • Planning
  • Profitability and Cost Management
  • Tax Reporting

IDENTITY_DOMAIN AS A REQUIRED PARAMETER NO LONGER NEEDED FOR THE EPM AUTOMATE LOGIN COMMAND

In an upcoming release, Oracle will remove the IDENTITY_DOMAIN parameter from the EPM Automate login command documentation. However, you can still set a value for this parameter and it will be ignored. Existing scripts that contain this value will not be affected. This documentation change is expected to be implemented in the 20.10 update,

WORKFORCE FORM NAME CHANGES – JOB ONLY MODELS

In the October 2020 (20.10) update, Oracle will fix a defect for certain forms in Workforce with the Job Only level of granularity configuration.  These forms currently are not tracked for customer modifications, so they do not appear in the Restore Modified Artifacts lists even if modified. The fix for this and related issues for these specific forms in the Job Only configuration will lead to an overwrite of any customer customizations on these forms with the 20.10 update.

The following four forms in the Workforce Job Only configuration are impacted by this upcoming change:

  • Set Workforce Assumptions
  • Identify Invalid Data
  • Process Data and Synchronize Defaults
  • Process Data and Synchronize Definition

Workforce customers with Job Only level of granularity who have modified any of these four forms are advised to create a backup of only the modified forms from this list prior to the 20.10 update to preserve the customizations.  After the 20.10 update, customers may import this backup of forms to restore their customizations. These forms will now appear in the Modified Artifacts lists for potential restoration, if desired in the future.

For information on exporting forms, see Backing up Artifacts and Application.

WORKFORCE ACCOUNT ALIAS CHANGES

In the October 2020 (20.10) release, the alias for two Workforce Accounts will be modified to clarify the intended usage for these accounts as assumptions.

Account

Current Alias

New Alias

OWP_FTE

FTE

FTE Assumption

OWP_Headcount

Headcount

Headcount Assumption

These two accounts are used to drive calculations and should not be used for reporting. There are corresponding, calculated account hierarchies, i.e. Total FTE and Total Headcount, which should be used for reporting instead of these input accounts. Customers who have not modified the alias for these two accounts will have the aliases automatically updated with the 20.10 update. Such customers are advised to change any hard-coded references to the current alias in Calculation Manager rules, Data Management mappings, or other direct references. As a reminder, the best practice is to refer to member names not aliases in rules, mappings, etc. as they are less likely to change than aliases. Customers who have modified the alias for either of these two accounts will not see any change with the 20.10 update for the account they have modified.

CALCULATION MANAGER VALIDATION FAILURES FOR CERTAIN ESSBASE CALCULATION COMMANDS IN HYBRID AGGREGATION MODE

Currently, certain Essbase calculation commands are not supported with hybrid aggregation (Hybrid BSO) in Planning Module applications.  If any of these commands are encountered in a rule, validation fails and the rule is not launched.  Starting in the October 2020 release (20.10), these restricted Essbase commands will provide validation errors for any application using Hybrid BSO.  Specifically, this validation failure change for the restricted commands will now include EPM Planning Custom and Free Form applications in addition to Module applications.

For more information,  see Working with Hybrid Aggregation in Essbase

USABILITY ENHANCEMENTS FOR HORIZONTAL TABS IN NAVIGATION FLOWS

In an update within the next few months, we are introducing a feature within navigation flows to open additional horizontal tabs on the fly to perform related actions; for example, view drill through from a form in a new temporary tab. As part of this new ‘on the fly tab’ feature; the horizontal tabs will move to the bottom of the page instead of at the top of the page where they are currently located. These changes will be the default for all customer environments where horizontal tabs are being used within navigation flows.

With tabs at the bottom of the page instead, customers will benefit from a clear separation of the EPM Cloud horizontal tabs from their browser tabs at the top of the window. Another benefit of this change will be to keep the navigation flow tab names distinct from the name of the artifacts (such as forms and dashboards) rendered within the horizontal tabs. The vertical tabs will stay where they are.

The effective date of the update will be announced in the month prior to the update. It is expected in the next 2-4 months’ timeframe.

NEW SETTING TO ENABLE INCREMENTAL IMPORT OF DATA USING MIGRATION FOR LEGACY PBCS and EPBCS APPLICATIONS

In an upcoming update, Oracle will create a new application setting for Legacy PBCS and EPBCS applications to enable incremental import of data using Migration.  The default setting will be set to disable incremental import of data using Migration. As a result, you cannot use the daily maintenance snapshot or any extract created using Migration for incremental import of data if this new setting remains in the default configuration; you must import a full snapshot to load data using Migration as a full Clone where the target environment does not have an existing application.

PBCS and EPBCS Service Administrators will be able to change this setting with warnings prompting that doing so may lead to data corruption if subsequent incremental import of data using Migration are not done properly.  Examples of potential data corruption include, but are not limited to, incremental data migration from a different source other than the target application where underlying Smart List values may be different.

EPM Enterprise Cloud Service and EPM Standard Cloud Service subscriptions already do not allow incremental import of data using Migration.  This new setting will not be added to these subscriptions, so there is no change in behavior for these subscriptions.

NOTE:  Existing PBCS and EPBCS subscriptions who have already upgraded to the newer version of Essbase will not be impacted by this upcoming change in line with EPM Enterprise Cloud Service and EPM Standard Cloud Service subscriptions.

This change is being implemented to address customer feedback. If you have any concerns about this change, please contact Oracle Support.

INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER SUPPORT

For Internet Explorer browser users, Microsoft recommends using the new Microsoft Edge as your default browser. With this guidance in mind, the 20.08 update will be the last update to support Internet Explorer. EPM Cloud will no longer support Internet Explorer starting with the 20.09 update.

We continue to upgrade the underlying technologies that support EPM Cloud but we are no longer testing our products using Internet Explorer starting with the 20.09 release. Thus, existing functionality that currently works and is supported using Internet Explorer may no longer work beginning with the 20.09 or subsequent updates. Only supported browsers are tested and supported for existing and new functionality.

All customers should have plans in place for all users to discontinue the usage of Internet Explorer beginning with the 20.09 update. If you have any questions regarding de-support, please create a Service Request. For additional guidance on Internet Explorer Lifecycle, please reach out to Microsoft.

CALCULATION MANAGER DE-SUPPORT FOR FLASH

By the end of 2020, Oracle will disable Flash in Calculation Manager, and options to enable it will be removed. This change is in response to Adobe’s decision to stop updating and distributing Flash at the end of 2020. See https://theblog.adobe.com/adobe-flash-update/.

REMOVAL OF INSTANCE NAME FROM PREDEFINED ROLE NAMES

Currently, the predefined role names displayed in the Access Control screens of EPM Cloud environments prefix the instance name to the role name in INSTANCE_NAME ROLE_NAME format. They are also stored in this format in the snapshots, making it difficult to migrate snapshots from one instance to another.

To facilitate the migration of security across EPM Cloud environments, Oracle plans to rename predefined role names displayed within EPM Cloud applications by removing the instance name prefix. For example, if the instance name is Planning1, predefined role names are Planning1 Service Administrator, Planning1 Power User, Planning1 User, and Planning1 Viewer, the new role names will be Service Administrator, Power User, User, and Viewer.

NOTE: This change does not affect how the role names are displayed in the MyServices customer portal.

This change won't impact customers who currently use predefined roles for managing application-level provisioning and access to artifacts. Oracle will ensure that all application role assignments and artifact security assignments are automatically updated after the roles are renamed. This change makes it easy to migrate EPM Cloud artifacts across environments.

This change is being implemented to address customer feedback. If you have any concerns about this change, please contact Oracle Support.

NARRATIVE REPORTING LEGACY (ENTERPRISE PERFORMANCE REPORTING CLOUD) ENVIRONMENTS TO SUPPORT STANDARD EPM CLOUD PREDEFINED ROLES

Oracle will, in an upcoming update, change the non-conforming Narrative Reporting predefined roles in existing environments to the following predefined roles.

  • Service Administrator
  • Power User
  • User
  • Viewer

Current role assignments in legacy environment will be remapped automatically as follows to the common set of predefined roles.

Current Non-Conforming Roles  Common Remapped Roles
System Administrator Service Administrator
Application Administrator Power User
Library Administrator Power User
Reports Administrator Power User

FUTURE NEW CONNECTION TYPE AND ADVANCED OPTIONS FOR EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS FOR TAX REPORTING

In a future update, Service Administrators for Tax Reporting will be able to use connections created for external Web services, specifying optional query or header parameters. These connections could be referenced or used in a Groovy script to create a communications link between the Groovy script and the external Web resource. Users will be advised when this new feature is to be supported in Tax Reporting.

EPM MOBILE APP STATEMENT OF DIRECTION

EPM Mobile App is a downloadable application for the phone that is purpose built to perform approval actions for iOS and Android based phone devices. It was purpose built to help users perform Approval and Workflow activities. It is currently only supported for Oracle EPM Cloud for the Planning business process.

The terminal release of EPM Mobile App is September 2020.  EPM Mobile App will not be available for download in the Apple and iOS App Stores effective October 2020. Oracle’s strategic direction is to have customers use the Approval and workflow capabilities using the mobile browser interface on mobile devices.

Oracle will continue to support Oracle EPM Mobile App in its current supported versions until September 2020.  Oracle recommends that users using Oracle EPM Mobile App prepare to instead use the approval functionality using supported mobile browser in tablet devices.

REMOVAL OF .XLS FORMAT AS REPORT EXPORT OPTION FOR INTERCOMPANY MATCHING REPORTS IN FINANCIAL CONSOLIDATION AND CLOSE

Using .xls as a report output format will be removed for Intercompany Matching reports in the 20.12 update. Customers who have built custom reports must ensure that their reports will export as desired to one of the remaining formats: xlsx, pdf, or html.
