Changes to Planning Admin Extension Installation and Update Process
The installation process and file format for the Planning Admin Extension for Oracle Smart View for Office has changed to take advantage of the Smart View extension installation and update process.
Applies to: Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting
The Planning Admin Extension allows Service Administrators to quickly import and edit dimension and member metadata directly in Smart View.
NOTE: The Planning Admin Extension is also referred to as the Smart View Add-on for Administrator or Admin Extension.
Previously, to install the Planning Admin Extension, an MSI file was downloaded from the Downloads page of the supported business process, and then installed using an installation wizard. Now the Planning Admin Extension is in SVEXT format, which allows it take part in the extension installation and update process available in Smart View.
To use the new SVEXT file format, you are required to first uninstall the MSI version of the Planning Admin Extension using Windows Programs and Features.
After uninstalling the MSI version, then you can install the new Planning Admin Extension in SVEXT format in either of these ways:
- From the business process Downloads page, download the SVEXT, and then double-click the SVEXT file.
- From the Smart View Options dialog, Extensions tab, click "Check for Updates, New Installs, and Uninstalls," then follow the prompts to download and install the Planning Admin Extension.
Once the SVEXT is installed, you can always click the "Check for Updates, New Installs, and Uninstalls" to check for any updates, following the extension update process outlined in Working with Oracle Smart View for Office. You can also continue to use the Admin Extension download from the Downloads page of your business process. Note, however, that the only way to remove the Admin Extension, or to know whether an updated version of the Admin Extension is available, is by using the extension update process in Smart View.
Business Benefit: Moving the Planning Admin Extension to the SVEXT format allows users to regularly check for and install updated versions of the extension directly in Smart View.
Steps to Enable
To install the SVEXT version of the Planning Admin Extension:
- Close any open Office applications.
- From the Windows Control Panel, Programs and Features, uninstall the MSI version of the Planning Admin Extension. Look for the extension listed under "Planning.'
- To install from the Downloads page:
- Using a Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browser, on your business process Home page, access Settings and Actions by clicking your user name at the top right corner of the screen.
- Select Downloads.
- Click the Download Admin Extension button and save the SVEXT file to a temporary directory.
- Double-click the SVEXT to install it.
- Restart Excel and go to the Smart View Options dialog, Extensions tab, to view the Admin Extension in the list.
- To install from Smart View:
- Launch Excel and in the Smart View ribbon, click Options, and then click Extensions.
- Click Check for Updates, New Installs, and Uninstalls.
- In Select Location for Extension Updates, select the data source connections to check for extension updates, and then click Get Updates.
- Review the list of extensions and where you see an Install link, click the link to launch the installer.
- Follow the prompts to close and restart Excel, and then go to the Smart View Options dialog, Extensions tab, to view the Admin Extension in the list.
Tips And Considerations
- You must uninstall the MSI version of the Planning Admin Extension before installing the SVEXT version. If you keep the MSI version on your machine, the Smart View extension update process will not recognize updates to the SVEXT version of the Planning Admin Extension.
- You may continue to use the MSI version of the Planning Admin Extension that you previously installed. However, this version of the extension will not be updated in the future so will not contain any future bug fixes or enhancements. For this reason, Oracle recommends moving to the Planning Admin Extension in SVEXT format.
- Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management: The Admin Extension is supported starting with Smart View 22.100.

Performance Substitution Variables
The OptimizeConcurrency, OptimizePelimCalculation, EnableYearlyConsol, ParallelCustomDimDSO, and ParallelCustomDimTranslation substitution variables can be enabled to improve performance.
OptimizeConcurrency = True
This substitution variable improves concurrency of the consolidation process by executing some of the calculations at the very beginning or at the end. The degree of improvement depends on the entity structure of a given customer. Customers with deeper entity hierarchies will benefit the most.
OptimizePelimCalculation= True
This substitution variable improves Partner Eliminations (PElim) performance. If there is a consolidation performance degradation when deploying a user-created “Partner Eliminations Configurable Consolidation Rule” that has an account re-direction, adding this variable can provide significant performance improvement.
EnableYearlyConsol = True
The EnableYearlyConsol substitution variable can be enabled to improve performance for multi-period consolidations in applications that use the Dense/Sparse Optimization option (where Period and Movement are the Dense dimensions).
This substitution variable is applicable if the application meets all of these conditions:
- The application uses the Dense/Sparse Optimization option (Period and Movement are Dense dimensions)
- You have two or more dirty periods, and two or more hierarchy levels
- The dirty entities are identical across periods
- Equity Pickup sequence is not enabled
ParallelCustomDimDSO = True
This substitution variable improves the performance of the consolidation process in applications with Dense/Sparse Optimization, where the Period and Movement dimensions are Dense dimensions. To see performance improvements, you should set this substitution variable to True.
ParallelCustomDimTranslation = True
This substitution variable can improve the performance of the consolidation process in applications with Dense/Sparse Optimization, where the Period and Movement dimensions are Dense dimensions. To see performance improvements, you should set this substitution variable to True. If any degradation is noticed, you should delete this variable.
Business Benefit: These substitution variables help in improving consolidation performance.
NOTE: The degree of performance improvement varies widely across different applications as it is purely driven by the application design and data distribution.

IMPORTANT Actions and Considerations
One-Week Lag Between Readiness Documents Live and Help Center Live
Because Oracle readiness documents (What's New and New Feature Summary) are live one week before the monthly update is applied to Test environments, some links to documentation included in the readiness documents will not work until after the Oracle Help Center update is complete when the monthly update is applied to Test environments.
EPM COMMON
Default Time Zone for New Users
Starting in 22.10, the default time zone for new users will be (UTC) Reykjavik - Greenwich Mean Time. To reset the time zone, click Tools, then User Preferences, and then click General.

Rolling Back Changes Made to Page Title Display for Horizontal tabs
We are rolling back changes that were made in the April 22.04 update to the page title for horizontal tabs. The change was to not display the page title in horizontal tabs while using the Redwood Theme. From the feedback received on this change, we've decided to roll it back. The change will be available in the July (22.07) update.
Applies to: Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting
Loaner Program for Cloud Infrastructure Generation 2 Testing and OCI Migration Assistance Early Adopter Program
Oracle EPM Cloud is now live on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Gen 2 environments. If you are interested in testing your application performance on an OCI environment, open a service request following the process at https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/saas/enterprise-performance-management-common/tsepm/op_procs_loaner_envs.html and request for a loaner environment in an OCI data center for a duration of 30 days with the business justification as “Want to test application performance in an OCI Gen 2 data center”.
After you have performed the testing, submit Provide Feedback from the loaner environment. Create a service request using the normal support process, if you have any issues or feedback for the OCI environment. For more information, see What is a Gen 2 Cloud?
Additionally, Oracle has instituted a program to assist customers on Oracle Cloud Classic to migrate to OCI. For more information, see Oracle Cloud Classic to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Migration Assistance Program for Early Adopters.
Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting
Alerts Cannot be Migrated to Prior Version
Due to a major upgrade in Alert functionality, any service that has defined Alert Types will not be able to migrate them or the Alerts that are based on them from the 22.04 update to an earlier update. This normally happens if artifacts are moved from Test to Production during the two week period when Test is upgraded to the 22.04 update while Production is still on the 22.03 update. All other objects in the migration are not affected.
Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting
Task Manager Email Notification Settings
Starting in the 22.04 update, the service changed the handling of Task Manager’s Email Notification settings during a migration. The target service’s Task Manager Email Notification settings were updated with the settings from the source service. If a customer wants to retain the target service’s Task Manager Notification settings, they can generate an LCM export with the notification settings from the target service, perform the source migration, then import the LCM file with the notification settings.
Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting
See LCM Export and LCM Import in REST API for Oracle Performance Management Cloud.
Date Format when Using the EPM Digital Assistant
When using the EPM Digital Assistant, note that the Date format is not taken from User Preferences, and the assistant does not ask which format to use for the date. The assistant attempts to detect the date format based on the user locale set in the browser and other common formats.
Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules,Tax Reporting
Removing Dimensions Before Rebasing a Financial Consolidation and Close or Tax Reporting EPM Digital Assistant Skill
If you want to rebase your Financial Consolidation and Close or Tax Reporting skill to use the 21.11 update of EPM Digital Assistant, note that you must first remove some dimensions before rebasing.
- Financial Consolidation and Close dimensions to be removed before rebasing: Scenario, Years, Period, Entity, Account, Currency, View, Consolidation, Data Source, Multi-GAAP, Intercompany and Movement
- Tax Reporting skill dimensions to be removed before rebasing: Cube, Scenario, Years, Period, Entity, Account, Currency, View, Consolidation, Data Source, Multi-GAAP, Intercompany, Movement and Jurisdiction

Performing Calculations Without Having to Submit Your Changes (Calc on the Fly)
In a future update, Financial Consolidation and Close and Tax Reporting will support calc on the fly. While the Application Settings option Enable User Formulas in Ad Hoc is available in this update, the feature is not yet supported for these products.
Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Tax Reporting
Drill Landing Page in Data Integration / Data Management
The Enhanced Drill Landing page is the default starting in this update. Starting with the 22.09 update, the option to switch the Drill Type user interface will no longer be available, and the Enhanced version will be the only version.
Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting
Downloading Smart View Extensions from Firefox
When a Smart View extension, such as the Planning Admin Extension or Task Manager extension, is downloaded using Downloads in the Firefox browser, it does not allow opening or saving the extension. Instead, it opens a new tab showing binary data. This issue is planned to be fixed in a future update. In the meantime, download extensions using an alternate supported browser (Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome), or install using the procedure in Installing Extensions in Working with Oracle Smart View for Office.
Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting
Internet Explorer 11 End of Support and Smart View
Microsoft has announced end of support of Internet Explorer 11 by June 15, 2022.
Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting
Do not uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer, even after the end-of support date of June 15, 2022. Instead, you may securely disable Internet Explorer following Microsoft’s guidelines. In situations where the Internet Explorer browser would be called, the Edge browser will be launched instead.
Oracle Smart View for Office does not require the Internet Explorer browser specifically. However, Smart View depends on Windows components (for example, WinInet APIs) that may have dependencies on Internet Explorer. Microsoft recommends keeping Internet Explorer installed on the machine since uninstalling may cause other applications that are dependent on it to work incorrectly. Microsoft also recommends updating to the latest security patches as they become available.
For more information, Oracle Support Document 2877741.1 (Impact on Smart view with Microsoft decommissioning Internet Explorer 11 on June 15, 2022) can be found at: https://mosemp.us.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?id=2877741.1.
In Reports, Minor Change to Text Box Text Wrapping
Due to a bug fix in the upcoming 22.08 update, please note that the following change in behavior for Text Wrapping in a Text Box:
When HTML text has multiple blocks of text with different font sizes and types (For example: Bold, Underline, and so on), the text wrapping will be improved to utilize the surrounding space more, previously there were more empty spaces in a text box. This change may reduce the height of the text/note boxes depending on the length of the text.
Applies to: Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting
Change in Reports Behavior with Suppress Missing Blocks Enabled with Zoom on the Column
Please note that beginning in the 22.08 update, Suppress Missing Blocks will no longer be supported with Zoom enabled on column segments. This combination of properties results in unpredictable members returned when doing the query for a Zoom on the column axis.
Applies to: Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting
Data Maps with Mapping or Cross Applications
Data Maps with mapping or cross applications are not supported in this update. If the Data Map has mapping or is a cross application, it needs to be attached to a form or included in the Groovy rule and run as a Smart Push.
Applies to: Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Planning, Planning Modules
ENTERPRISE DATA MANAGEMENT
Top Node Filters for Subscriptions No Longer Apply to Delete Actions
Starting in the 22.05 update, top node filters for subscriptions are no longer applied to Delete request actions in the source viewpoint. If a node matching a deleted source node is found in a target viewpoint, the node will be deleted from the target viewpoint regardless of where the node is located as part of a subscription request to ensure synchronization of existing nodes in both viewpoints.
FINANCIAL CONSOLIDATION AND CLOSE
Posting Data Against Global Assumptions
It is recommended that you do not post data against the Global Assumptions member in the Entity dimension. This member is used to store information such as currency rates. Starting with the 22.07 update, if you post data against Global Assumptions, an error will occur.
Phased Approvals
If you decide to enable Phased Approvals in your application, take note of the following considerations:
-
You will need to manually modify your Data Status forms to replace the dimension member "FCCS_Status_ApprovalStatus" with the new member "FCCS_Status_ConsolidatedApprovalStatus".
-
If you try to export the application from the 22.03 update and import it to the 22.02 update, you must update your Data Status form by changing the dimension member FCCS_Status_ConsolidatedApprovalStatus back to FCCS_Status_ApprovalStatus.
-
Additionally, you will encounter errors during the import because new artifacts related to Phased Approvals are not supported in 22.02.
Resetting Customized Changes After an Update
If you have made changes to the seeded Account hierarchy, those changes will be reset. If you have moved seeded members, the move action is retained, but any re-ordering you have done will be reset, and a restructuring will happen when the ordering is reset. The restructuring could take time, so plan accordingly. You may have to manually re-order seeded members again after the update.
PLANNING MODULES
Removal of Strategic Workforce Planning from EPM Cloud Workforce Planning
In a future update, the Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) enablement option will be removed for all EPM Cloud Planning Modules (Standard and Enterprise) and Enterprise Planning applications that have not already enabled this feature in the Workforce Module. Customers who have already enabled this feature will see no change in their existing applications with this feature already enabled. No new applications will support this feature after this change.
Strategic Workforce Planning functionality is provided in the Strategic Workforce Planning Cloud Service (SWPCS) product, which contains robust SWP functionality that is not available in the existing EPM Cloud Planning Workforce module feature. SWPCS is an Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM) product built on EPM technology. For more information about SWPCS, please refer to the Strategic Workforce Planning information on www.oracle.com.
If you have any concerns about this change, please contact Oracle Support.
Planning Modules That Use a 13-Period Calendar
For Planning Modules applications that use a 13-period calendar, application snapshot files older than 22.07 will no longer work after 22.07 due to changes Oracle plans to make to the application properties for 13-period applications. The change is required to correct the Fiscal Year Start Date option in existing 13-period applications. After the 22.07 update, customers are advised to take a new snapshot of both test and production environments for backup and restore purposes.
TAX REPORTING
Support for Amount and Rate Override for Tax Accounts
Starting with the 22.08 update, three existing override FX rate/amount forms will be deprecated. The forms will no longer allow data entry. The deprecated forms are:
- NIBT FX Rates Override: FX Rates - NIBT Override
- NIBT FX Rates Override - WAR: FX Rates - NIBT Override – WAR
- Weighted Average Rates Override: FX Rates - Expense Override – WAR
In addition, the data intersections underlying the deprecated forms will no longer accept data including through data import, Smart View, or Data Management.
If you are using any of the above forms or the underlying data intersections to view or modify override FX rates/amount you will need to transition to the new override FX rate/amount forms and underlying data intersections.
The replacement forms are available under the Tax Administration\FX Rates folder and will allow entry and review of the respective FX rate or amount override values.
- FX Rates - NIBT Override: NIBT Foreign Exchange Override Rates (This form replaces NIBT FX Rates Override: FX Rates - NIBT Override)
- FX Rates - NIBT Override – WAR: NIBT Foreign Exchange Override Rates - Calculated Weighted Average (This form replaces NIBT FX Rates Override - WAR: FX Rates - NIBT Override – WAR)
- FX Rates - Expense Override – WAR: Foreign Exchange Rates Calculated Weighted Average (This form replaces Weighted Average Rates Override: FX Rates - Expense Override – WAR)
NOTE: The transition from the old override FX rate capability to the new override FX rate capability requires a migration. All applications created prior to 21.07 must manually run the migration no later than the upgrade to 22.08 on your test and production instances. As part of the migration, all the FX override rates (that is, NIBT override, WAR, and others) that are contained within the Tax Reporting application will be migrated to new intersections. You can tell if a migration is necessary by following the steps in Migrating Override FX Rate and Amount Data and verifying that the Migrate NIBT FX override rate, NIBT WAR and Expense WAR Data checkbox is unchecked. The migration is safe to run multiple times.
IMPORTANT: If you fail to run the migration before upgrading to 22.08, Consolidation will fail with the following error message: A method called by the script failed on line: 8, with error: No migration upgrade smartlist detected. Performing the migration will resolve this error.
IMPORTANT: Data integrations involving the deprecated override FX rate intersections, such as data import/export profiles, Data Management integrations, or Smart View sheets may require a manual update to point to the new override FX rate intersections. See the Migrating Override FX Rate and Amount Data for details on the intersections to migrate.

Purging of Audit Information
Starting in the 22.10 update, audit records older than 365 days will be automatically purged at service start-up such as after the daily maintenance window, service reset, or outage (planned or unplanned). Purged audit records will not be stored or accessible. To prepare for this change, you may want to take a backup of the historical audit data. To do this, select one of the following options:
- Export: Select the Export option on the Actions menu from the Audit card by selecting the appropriate filters.
- EPM Automate command: Use the exportAppAudit command. See exportAppAudit in Working with EPM Automate for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud.
