Revision History

This document will continue to evolve as existing sections change and new information is added. All updates appear in the following table:

Date Product Feature Notes
27 MAY 2021     Created initial document.

Overview

This document outlines the upcoming Enterprise Performance Management Cloud update.

Feature Summary

Column Definitions:

Report = New or modified, Oracle-delivered, ready to run reports.

UI or Process-Based: Small Scale = These UI or process-based features are typically comprised of minor field, validation, or program changes. Therefore, the potential impact to users is minimal.

UI or Process-Based: Larger Scale* = These UI or process-based features have more complex designs. Therefore, the potential impact to users is higher.

Features Delivered Disabled = Action is needed BEFORE these features can be used by END USERS. These features are delivered disabled and you choose if and when to enable them. For example, a) new or expanded BI subject areas need to first be incorporated into reports, b) Integration is required to utilize new web services, or c) features must be assigned to user roles before they can be accessed.

Ready for Use by End Users
(Feature Delivered Enabled)

Reports plus Small Scale UI or Process-Based new features will have minimal user impact after an update. Therefore, customer acceptance testing should focus on the Larger Scale UI or Process-Based* new features.

Customer Must Take Action before Use by End Users
(Feature Delivered Disabled)

Not disruptive as action is required to make these features ready to use. As you selectively choose to leverage, you set your test and roll out timing.

Key Resources

Update to EPM Automate Guide

The Working with EPM Automate for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud guide has been enhanced by adding new sample scripts that help customers leverage Oracle Object Storage to copy the daily snapshots directly from EPM Cloud, and copy it back to EPM Cloud as needed.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: The new scripts help you automate the backing up of snapshots from EPM Cloud environments to Oracle Object Storage and the restoring of backup snapshots to EPM Cloud environments.

Key Resources

Dashboards 1.0 Enhancements

Enhancements were made to Dashboards 1.0 to make form instructions directly accessible from the dashboard, to make the handles and borders that resize objects in flexible dashboard layouts more prominent, and to expand the amount of text allowed in commentary dashboard objects to up to 2000 characters.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

Some dashboard forms include instructions describing for users how to work with the form. Previously, the link to view dashboard form instructions was only accessible if the form was maximized. Now if a form has instructions configured for it, the instructions icon is accessible from the dashboard form's hover toolbar.

Dashboard Object Hover Icons

For 1.0 Dashboards that use a Flexible layout, we've enlarged the handles you use to expand and restore the dashboard object. We've also made the borders you drag to resize an object more prominent.

Lastly, for Commentary Dashboards 1.0 objects, we've expanded the text limit to 2000 characters. The 2000 character limit includes any formatting tags that are added for rich text.

NOTE: These enhancements are applicable only to Dashboards 1.0 and not to Dashboards 2.0.

Business Benefit: Improved usability for Dashboards 1.0.

Key Resources

OAuth 2 Enablement for EPM Digital Assistant

Starting in this update, you can configure the EPM Digital Assistant with OAuth 2, which will allow you to use an OAuth token to log in.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Financial Consolidation and Close

Business Benefit: Accessing the EPM Digital Assistant will be more seamless. Once you’ve logged into EPM Cloud, you won’t have to log in again to use the EPM Digital Assistant.

Steps to Enable

You must have a subscription to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in order to use OAuth.

Key Resources

Microsoft Teams, Slack Support for EPM Skills for Digital Assistant

Starting in this update, EPM Skills are now supported in Microsoft Teams and Slack.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Financial Consolidation and Close

Business Benefit: Support for EPM skills in Microsoft Teams and Slack helps you get answers to EPM business questions from within these channels, thus improving productivity.

Key Resources

  • Setting Up Channels in Getting Started with the Digital Assistant for Oracle Cloud Enterprise Performance Management

Easier Report List Search and Ability to Preserve or Clear Parameters When Generating Reports

The Reports enhancements add the following capabilities, including a Quick Search option, Back button and Reset button.

  • Quick Search option: Helps to find a report under a selected group
  • Back button: Preserves the parameters and provides an option to regenerate the report
  • Reset button: Clears the parameters and provides an option to regenerate the report

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Task Manager and Supplemental Data Manager in Financial Consolidation and Close and Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: The Reports search capability makes it easier to find the report you are looking for. The Back and Reset buttons give you the ability to preserve or clear parameters and makes it easier to generate reports.

Key Resources

Task Manager Integration Parameters for Account Reconciliations

In Task Manager, the View Reconciliations and View Transactions remote Integration Task Types for Account Reconciliation now have drop-down selections for the parameters.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: In Task Manager, you can select parameters from drop-down lists for all Account Reconciliation Integrations.

Key Resources

New EPM Integration Agent Diagnostic Mode

The EPM Integration Agent now enables you to run a set of validations against the parameters in the agent startup file.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

In diagnostic mode, the agent is not registered to the EPM Cloud but runs these validations:

  • SSL certificates
  • Agent connectivity to the Internet. Includes making a test call to the oracle.com from the agent.
  • Agent connectivity to the EPM Cloud URL within the agent.
  • Proxy type (basic, digest, or NTML) when proxy is enabled in the customers environment
  • Double quotes are used in Linux/Mac OS startup parameter file entries. Double quotes enable the shell to interpret dollar sign ($), backtick(`), backslash(\) and exclamation mark(!)
  • Password is encrypted in the agent parameter file.
  • Checks any whitespaces before or after parameters. If whitespaces are encountered, the system trims them and updates the startup parameter file.

Business Benefit: Diagnostic mode provides a way to identify any issues with the EPM Integration Agent startup parameters or network connectivity.

Key Resources

Importing Data from Files in the EPM Integration Inbox

Customers can now import data from a file in a local EPM Integration Agent inbox folder and then have the agent upload and process the file.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

This feature requires that a customer create an inbox in the EPM Integration Agent Data folder and then stage the file. Additionally, the customer must specify the location of the inbox in the startup parameters file and then update the integration definition in Data Integration.

Business Benefit: Prior to this update, a customer had to use an EPM Automate command to import data from a file to the EPM Integration Agent.

Key Resources

New EPM Integration Agent File Adapter

In this update, Data Integration supports the direct load of a file-based data source using the EPM Integration Agent.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

With this feature, customers can now create a new data source adapter for an on-premises file. The agent file adapter does not include any connection or query parameters. The only required parameter is the name of the file.  A delimited file with a header record is required for the load.

Business Benefit: The Agent File adapter enables customers to load very large files from an on-premises file data source to the EPM Cloud. It extends the direct load method where the EPM Cloud database is bypassed for staging and processing, eliminating any performance bottlenecks and improving the performance and scalability of the load process.

Key Resources

Changes to Oracle Netsuite Authentication

NSPB Sync SuiteApp Saved Search authentication for accessing integrations has changed. Integrations now requires token-based authorization instead of basic authentication in order to set up the connection to NSPB Sync SuiteApp Saved Searches from the EPM Cloud. Basic authorization credentials have been made read only in this release.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: Token-based authorization is self-contained and contains all the information needed to connect to Oracle Netsuite.

Key Resources

Exporting Dynamic Calculated Values from Financial Consolidation and Close

In Data Integration, you can now extract dynamic calculated values when exporting data from Financial Consolidation and Close by selecting the All Data selection as the Data Extract method in integration options.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Tax Reporting

Dynamic calculated values refer to member data values calculated upon retrieval.

Business Benefit: For Financial Consolidation and Close customers, it may be more efficient to calculate some member combinations when you retrieve their data, instead of precalculating the member combinations during a batch database calculation. Dynamically calculating some values in a database can significantly improve the performance of an overall database calculation.

Steps to Enable

It is a prerequisite that the CONTROL TO-DATE VIEW STORAGE setting in Financial Consolidation and Close is enabled to extract dynamic calculated values using Data Integration.

IMPORTANT Actions and Considerations

EPM CLOUD COMMON

Redwood Experience as Default Theme

Within the next few months, the Redwood experience will be the default theme upon creation or recreation of an EPM Cloud service, or upon creation or recreation of a business process/application for all instances (existing as well as new). Existing active services/business processes/applications will not be impacted. All migrations (i.e., LCM import/reimports of existing cloud applications) will honor the theme from the source/import file. You will be able to switch to an alternate non-Redwood experience theme from the Appearance page in the Tools cluster.

Support for Composite Forms in EPM Cloud

As of the May update (21.05), Oracle EPM Cloud no longer officially supports composite forms. As has been announced for several months, customers are required to use EPM Cloud dashboards instead. Customers can continue to use their composite forms without support.

Upcoming Security Changes for Predefined Reports

In an upcoming release, Power User security will be enforced on:

  • All predefined Reconciliation Manager and Transaction Matching reports in Account Reconciliation
  • All predefined Task Manager reports in Financial Consolidation and Close and Tax Reporting

Loaner Program for Cloud Infrastructure Generation 2 Testing

Oracle EPM Cloud is now live on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Gen 2 environments. If you are interested in testing your application performance on an OCI Gen 2 environment, open a service request following the process at https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/saas/enterprise-performance-management-common/tsepm/op_procs_loaner_envs.html and request for a loaner environment in an OCI Gen 2 data center for a duration of 30 days with the business justification as “Want to test application performance in an OCI Gen 2 data center”.

After you have performed the testing, submit Provide Feedback from the loaner environment. Create a service request using the normal support process, if you have any issues or feedback for the OCI Gen 2 environment.

For more information, see What is a Gen 2 Cloud?

SMART VIEW

Upcoming Change to Smart View Ad Hoc Behavior Setting

Starting with the August update (21.08), all new applications and all recreated applications will use “Standard” as the Smart View ad hoc behavior.

For existing applications and migrated applications, “Native” will remain as the default Smart View ad hoc behavior, with “Standard” being an option. Existing and migrated applications will not experience any change in behavior. Currently selected ad hoc behavior will be persisted.

Please note that "Native" mode in Smart View ad hoc behavior will eventually be phased out (timeline is yet to be determined). We recommend that all customers plan on switching their applications to "Standard" mode ad hoc behavior soon.

Smart View Add-on Installation for Task Manager and Supplemental Data Manager

In an upcoming release, the installation of Smart View add-ons for Task Manager and Supplemental Data Manager will change. At that time, users of the Smart View add-ons will need to uninstall and re-install their add-ons to take advantage of the latest features and fixes.

PLANNING MODULES

Strategic Modeling Terminology Change

In a future update, the Consolidation feature in Strategic Modeling will be renamed Scenario Rollup.

Removal of Strategic Workforce Planning from EPM Cloud Workforce Planning

In an upcoming release, the Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) enablement option will be removed for all EPM Cloud Planning Modules (Standard and Enterprise) and EPBCS applications that have not already enabled this feature in the Workforce Module. Customers who have already enabled this feature will see no change in their existing applications with this feature already enabled. No new applications will support this feature after this change.

Strategic Workforce Planning functionality is provided in the Strategic Workforce Planning Cloud Service (SWPCS) product, which contains robust SWP functionality that is not available in the existing EPM Cloud Planning Workforce module feature. SWPCS is an Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM) product built on EPM technology. For more information about SWPCS, please refer to the Strategic Workforce Planning information on www.oracle.com.

If you have any concerns about this change, please contact Oracle Support.

NARRATIVE REPORTING

Removal of EPMCTRL Transfer Utility

Starting in an upcoming release, the EPMCTRL Transfer Utility will be removed. Customers should use EPMAutomate, which includes all the commands currently available in the EPMCTRL Transfer Utility, going forward. For more information, see Backing Up and Restoring an Environment in Getting Started with Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud for Administrators.

ACCOUNT RECONCILIATION

Added Flexibility for Security Assignments

Starting in an upcoming release, more flexible granular security assignments across all roles will be available. For example, if you want to assign certain tasks like creating reports, you will be able to assign that ability to them.  As part of this project Power User access to Data Loads will be updated so that the Service Administrator will have to assign this ability to the Power User rather than the Power User receiving it by default.
