Quick Mode Data Export

In Data Integration, you can now export data from the EPM Cloud to a file, on-premises database, and an Oracle autonomous database using the Quick mode method. This method provides significant performance improvement over the standard workflow method. It supports simple transformations using import expressions and does not support member mappings. Data is not loaded to a staging table so you cannot view the data in Workbench. Period processing in Quick Model does not use periods defined in the Period Mapping option. Instead, periods are handled like other dimensions and can be filtered in the Source Filters option.

Data can be extracted from the EPM Cloud using the existing extract methods: "Stored Data," "All Data," or a new method called "Level 0 Data." The Level 0 extract method allows you to apply filters and select columns to include in the output file. This method is ideal for extracting large data slices from the system without reaching query processing limits.

For customers interested in consuming data “as-is” in the EPM Cloud without any additional transformation, you can now export the data to a file using an EPM Data File adapter.

The new data export options are available from the Data Extract Options field (formerly called Extract Dynamic Calculated Data) on the Options page.

Business Benefit: The primary benefit of this method is that it enables you to load large data volumes faster than the non-quick load method. In addition, you can export only level-0 members. This feature also helps eliminate timeout issues when exporting large data volumes.

Key Resources

Additional Options for Configurable Consolidation Rule Factors

When creating configurable consolidation rules, you now have the ability to select Product of Entity/Partner or Last Period of Prior Year as Factors to apply to the source data values.

If Product of Entity / Partner is selected, then the factor applied will be the product (multiplication) of the Entity percentage and Partner percentage. If there is no Partner, then the Entity percentage will be applied. If Last Period of Prior Year is selected, then then the factor applied will be read from the last period of the prior year.

Business Benefit: These consolidation factors provide additional options for specifying ownership percentages for entities and partners, and consolidation on a YTD basis.

Key Resources

Ability to Use Substitution Variables in Prompts for Copy and Clear Data

The Copy and Clear Data functions have been enhanced to allow the use of Substitution Variables. When you select members from the Member Selector for Copy or Clear, in addition to members and user variables, you can now select Substitution Variables.

Business Benefit: Adding substitution variables provides more flexibility for member selection in the Copy and Clear Data functions.

Key Resources

  • Copying Data in Administering Financial Consolidation and Close Cloud
  • Clearing Data in Administering Financial Consolidation and Close Cloud

Viewing Predicted Consolidation Times

You can now run a rule named Predict Consolidation Time, which enables the system to calculate the predicted time of running a consolidation job. The rule can be attached to any form as a context menu option. You can view the predicted consolidation time in the Job log, located in the Jobs card. Additionally, whenever the Consolidation rule is run, the prediction routine is automatically run and you can see the prediction in the Consolidation rule job log as well.

Business Benefit: Predicted consolidation times enable you to schedule and manage consolidation jobs, and determine the status of consolidation progress in the Job log.

Key Resources

Change in Solve Order for Movement Dimension in DSO Applications

In applications that use the Dense/Sparse Optimization option, the Solve Order of some Movement dimension members has changed. The Solve Order value for FCCS_CashChange, FCCS_FX_Total_NonCash, FCCS_OpeningBalance_Cash, and FCCS_ClosingBalance Cash has changed from 56 to 59.

Business Benefit: Changing the Solve Order value for these accounts ensures that the FCCS_FX_Total_NonCash account is calculated correctly.

Key Resources

Performance Substitution Variables

The OptimizeConcurrency, OptimizePelimCalculation, EnableYearlyConsol, ParallelCustomDimDSO and ParallelCustomDimTranslation substitution variables can be enabled to improve performance.

OptimizeConcurrency = True

This substitution variable improves concurrency of the consolidation process by executing some of the calculations at the very beginning or at the end. The degree of improvement depends on the entity structure of a given customer. Customers with deeper entity hierarchies will benefit the most.

OptimizePelimCalculation= True

This substitution variable improves Partner Eliminations (PElim) performance. If there is a consolidation performance degradation when deploying a user-created “Partner Eliminations Configurable Consolidation Rule” that has an account re-direction, adding this variable can provide significant performance improvement.

EnableYearlyConsol = True

The EnableYearlyConsol substitution variable can be enabled to improve performance for multi-period consolidations in applications that use the Dense/Sparse Optimization option (where Period and Movement are the Dense dimensions).

This substitution variable is applicable if the application meets all of these conditions:

  • The application uses the Dense/Sparse Optimization option (Period and Movement are Dense dimensions)
  • You have two or more dirty periods, and two or more hierarchy levels
  • The dirty entities are identical across periods
  • Equity Pickup sequence is not enabled

ParallelCustomDimDSO = True

This substitution variable improves the performance of the consolidation process in applications with Dense/Sparse Optimization, where the Period and Movement dimensions are Dense dimensions. To see performance improvements, you should set this substitution variable to True.

ParallelCustomDimTranslation = True

This substitution variable can improve the performance of the consolidation process in applications with Dense/Sparse Optimization, where the Period and Movement dimensions are Dense dimensions. To see performance improvements, you should set this substitution variable to True. If any degradation is noticed, you should delete this variable.

Business Benefit: These substitution variables help in improving performance.

NOTE: The degree of performance improvement varies widely across different applications as it is purely driven by the application design and data distribution.

FreeForm

There are no new features in this update except for the applicable features listed in the EPM Common section.

Narrative Reporting

New Videos

Learn how to use the Notes text function to display notes in a data source-enabled text box in a report. The process includes creating a Note Format to define the output content, layout, and formatting; creating a Named POV in a report, which defines the dimensions and members to retrieve in the notes text function; and inserting into a report a data source-enabled text box with the Notes text function.

Learn how to set up the inline grid entry of notes in Narrative Reporting. Using Report Designer, you can insert a note column segment or note row segment into a grid, and select a note template to associate with the note segment. This allows users to insert notes into row or column segments in the grid when viewing the report in HTML.

Business Benefit: Videos provide 3-5 minute overviews and step-by step instructions to perform tasks and achieve an outcome.

Key Resources

Ability to Control the List of Functions for Secondary POV in a Notes Text Box

Previously, in a data source-enabled text box with the Notes text function inserted, when you enabled a dimension in a Named POV for Control by Text POV, a fixed list of member selection functions was displayed for the secondary POV.

In this update, in the Manage Named POV Action menu, in Select POV Functions, you can select which member selection functions are listed in the Note text box secondary POV.

Select POV Functions

Secondary POV Functions

NOTE: These selections apply to all dimensions and all Named POVs in the report.

Business Benefit: This feature provides improved usability to display only the desired member functions in the secondary POV.

Key Resources

Option to Control Displayed Results with POV Dimensions in a Notes Text Box

Previously, when using a data source-enabled text box with the Notes text function, the report’s Global POV would only control the text box results if you were using the secondary POV.

In this update, when editing the Named POV that is used in the Notes text function, you can set a POV dimension’s options to Control by Text POV with an option to Display on Secondary POV.

Display on Secondary POV

This allows controlling the Notes text box results with the Report’s POV without enabling the secondary POV.

Business Benefit: This feature provides additional flexibility for users when interacting with a Notes text box.

Changing a Member in the POV is Reflected in All Sessions Without Having to Log Out of the Planning Web Interface

When you make a change to the Planning POV, the change is reflected within seconds in all parallel sessions for the same user without having to log out of the Planning web interface. For example, if you change the POV in a form in the Planning web interface, the change is reflected for the same user's session in Smart View, in a REST API call, or in Reports.

Previously, if you changed the POV in a form in the Planning web interface, you had to log out of the Planning web interface to see the updated POV selection in another open session, such as Smart View, REST API, or Reports.

Business Benefit: This enhancement ensures that any changes you make to the POV are reflected in all open sessions for the same user, whether it be the Planning web interface, Smart View, REST, or Reports.

Tips And Considerations

  • If you make a change to the POV in any session other than the Planning web interface, you must re-open the form in the Planning web interface to see the updated member in the POV.
  • If you are using vertical tabs in the Planning web interface, if you make a change to the POV in a form on one tab, the change is reflected right away in a form on another vertical tab.

More Flexibility for Determining the Current Quarter in Planning and Forecast Preparation in Planning Modules

In the Planning and Forecast Preparation configuration task for Planning modules, when you select Quarterly as the planning basis for Forecast for the first year, you now can choose how Planning modules determines the current quarter, in cases where the current month is the last month of the quarter.

When the current month is the last month of the quarter, select an option in Planning and Forecast Preparation for how Planning modules should define the current quarter:

  • If you select Lock current period for forecast, Planning modules uses the next quarter. For example, if the current month is March, when you select this option, Planning modules defines the Current Quarter as Q2, and data cells in Q1 in forms are read-only.
  • If you clear Lock current period for forecast, Planning modules uses the current quarter. For example, if the current month is March, when you clear (deselect) this option, Planning modules defines the Current Quarter as Q1, and data cells in Q1 in forms remain editable.

Business Benefit: This enhancement gives you flexibility in managing how Planning modules determines the current quarter.

Tips And Considerations

  • Lock current period for forecast is available only when Quarterly is selected as the planning basis for Forecast for the first year.
  • You can select the option for lock current period for forecast for each module.

Pushing Non-Compensation Data from Workforce to Financials Using Data Maps with Detailed Member-Level Mappings and Smart Push

To push non-compensation data from Workforce to Financials, define detailed member-level mappings in the provided data map, Non Compensation Data to Financial Statement, to map account names in Workforce to account names in Financials to define where to push the data. Attach the modified data map to a form with Smart Push to push the data whenever you save changes on the form.

Overview of steps:

  1. Open the data map Non Compensation Data to Financial Statement in Data Maps and modify the detailed mappings to map account names in Workforce to account names in Financials.
  2. Create a new form or modify an existing form in Workforce, such as Manage Non Compensation Expenses for All Employees:
    1. On the Layout tab, add Level 0 members to the rows for each non-compensation account you want to push to Financials.
    2. On the Smart Push tab, add OWP_Non Compensation Data to FinStmt and select Run After Save.

Now, whenever you update data on the form, after you save, Smart Push pushes the non-compensation data from Workforce to Financials.

Business Benefit: Using detailed member level mappings along with Smart Push allows you to push non-compensation data between Workforce and Financials even if the member names don’t match.

Tips And Considerations

Detailed member-level mappings currently work only with Smart Push on a form.

IMPORTANT Actions and Considerations

One-Week Lag Between Readiness Documents Live and Help Center Live

Because Oracle readiness documents (What's New and New Feature Summary) are live one week before the monthly update is applied to Test environments, some links to documentation included in the readiness documents will not work until after the Oracle Help Center update is complete when the monthly update is applied to Test environments.

EPM COMMON

Loaner Program for Cloud Infrastructure Generation 2 Testing and OCI Migration Assistance Early Adopter Program

Oracle EPM Cloud is now live on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Gen 2 environments. If you are interested in testing your application performance on an OCI environment, open a service request following the process at https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/saas/enterprise-performance-management-common/tsepm/op_procs_loaner_envs.html and request for a loaner environment in an OCI data center for a duration of 30 days with the business justification as “Want to test application performance in an OCI Gen 2 data center”.

After you have performed the testing, submit Provide Feedback from the loaner environment. Create a service request using the normal support process, if you have any issues or feedback for the OCI environment. For more information, see What is a Gen 2 Cloud?

Additionally, Oracle has instituted a program to assist a limited number of early adopters on Oracle Cloud Classic to migrate to OCI. For more information, see Oracle Cloud Classic to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Migration Assistance Program for Early Adopters.

Alerts Cannot be Migrated to Prior Version

Due to a major upgrade in Alert functionality, any service that has defined Alert Types will not be able to migrate them or the Alerts that are based on them from the 22.04 update to an earlier update. This normally happens if artifacts are moved from Test to Production during the two week period when Test is upgraded to the 22.04 update while Production is still on the 22.03 update. All other objects in the migration are not affected.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

Task Manager Email Notification Settings

Starting in the 22.04 update, the service changed the handling of Task Manager’s Email Notification settings during a migration. The target service’s Task Manager Email Notification settings were updated with the settings from the source service. If a customer wants to retain the target service’s Task Manager Notification settings, they can generate an LCM export with the notification settings from the target service, perform the source migration, then import the LCM file with the notification settings.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

See LCM Export and LCM Import in REST API for Oracle Performance Management Cloud.

Date Format when Using the EPM Digital Assistant

When using the EPM Digital Assistant, note that the Date format is not taken from User Preferences, and the assistant does not ask which format to use for the date. The assistant attempts to detect the date format based on the user locale set in the browser and other common formats.

Removing Dimensions Before Rebasing a Financial Consolidation and Close or Tax Reporting EPM Digital Assistant Skill

If you want to rebase your Financial Consolidation and Close or Tax Reporting skill to use the 21.11 update of EPM Digital Assistant, note that you must first remove some dimensions before rebasing.

  • Financial Consolidation and Close dimensions to be removed before rebasing: Scenario, Years, Period, Entity, Account, Currency, View, Consolidation, Data Source, Multi-GAAP, Intercompany and Movement
  • Tax Reporting skill dimensions to be removed before rebasing: Cube, Scenario, Years, Period, Entity, Account, Currency, View, Consolidation, Data Source, Multi-GAAP, Intercompany, Movement and Jurisdiction

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Tax Reporting

See Removing a Consolidation and Close or Tax Reporting Custom Dimension from an Extended Skill in Getting Started with the Digital Assistant for Oracle Cloud Enterprise Performance Management.

Performing Calculations Without Having to Submit Your Changes (Calc on the Fly)

In a future update, Financial Consolidation and Close and Tax Reporting will support calc on the fly. While the Application Settings option Enable User Formulas in Ad Hoc is available in this update, the feature is not yet supported for these products.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Tax Reporting

Drill Landing Page in Data Integration / Data Management

The Enhanced Drill Landing page will become the default in the 22.06 update. Starting with the 22.07 update, the option to switch the Drill Type UI will be removed and the Enhanced version will be only version.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting, Profitability and Cost Management

Upcoming Change to Planning Admin Extension Installation

In a future update, the installation process and file format will change for the Planning Admin Extension for Oracle Smart View for Office (also referred to as the Smart View Add-on for Administrator). This will not impact current and future usage of Admin Extensions that are already installed.

Currently, an MSI file is downloaded from the Downloads page of the supported business process. The new process will utilize an SVEXT file and allow users to take advantage of the extension update feature in the Smart View Options dialog, Extensions tab.

To use the new SVEXT file format when it becomes available, you are required to first uninstall the Planning Admin Extension using Windows Programs and Features. Then, you can install the new Planning Admin Extension SVEXT file in either of these ways:

  • Download the SVEXT file to a temporary folder and double-click it.
  • Use the "Check for Updates, New Installs, and Uninstalls" feature in the Smart View Options dialog, Extensions tab to automatically detect and install the Planning Admin Extension

Look for this change in the file format and the installation of the Planning Admin Extension in a future EPM Cloud update.

Top Node Filters for Subscriptions No Longer Apply to Delete Actions

Starting in 22.05, top node filters for subscriptions are no longer applied to Delete request actions in the source viewpoint. If a node matching a deleted source node is found in a target viewpoint, the node will be deleted from the target viewpoint regardless of where the node is located as part of a subscription request to ensure synchronization of existing nodes in both viewpoints.

Phased Approvals

If you decide to enable Phased Approvals in your application, take note of the following considerations:

  • You will need to manually modify your Data Status forms to replace the dimension member "FCCS_Status_ApprovalStatus" with the new member "FCCS_Status_ConsolidatedApprovalStatus".

  • If you try to export the application from the 22.03 update and import it to the 22.02 update, you must update your Data Status form by changing the dimension member FCCS_Status_ConsolidatedApprovalStatus back to FCCS_Status_ApprovalStatus.

  • Additionally, you will encounter errors during the import because new artifacts related to Phased Approvals are not supported in release 22.02.

Resetting Customized Changes After an Update

If you have made changes to the seeded Account hierarchy, those changes will be reset. If you have moved seeded members, the move action is retained, but any re-ordering you have done will be reset, and a restructuring will happen when the ordering is reset. The restructuring could take time, so plan accordingly. You may have to manually re-order seeded members again after the update.

PLANNING MODULES

Removal of Strategic Workforce Planning from EPM Cloud Workforce Planning

In a future update, the Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) enablement option will be removed for all EPM Cloud Planning Modules (Standard and Enterprise) and Enterprise Planning applications that have not already enabled this feature in the Workforce Module. Customers who have already enabled this feature will see no change in their existing applications with this feature already enabled. No new applications will support this feature after this change.

Strategic Workforce Planning functionality is provided in the Strategic Workforce Planning Cloud Service (SWPCS) product, which contains robust SWP functionality that is not available in the existing EPM Cloud Planning Workforce module feature. SWPCS is an Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM) product built on EPM technology. For more information about SWPCS, please refer to the Strategic Workforce Planning information on www.oracle.com.

If you have any concerns about this change, please contact Oracle Support.

TAX REPORTING

Support for Amount and Rate Override for Tax Accounts

Starting with the 22.08 update, three existing override FX rate/amount forms will be deprecated. The forms will no longer allow data entry. The deprecated forms are:

  • NIBT FX Rates Override: FX Rates - NIBT Override
  • NIBT FX Rates Override - WAR: FX Rates - NIBT Override – WAR
  • Weighted Average Rates Override: FX Rates - Expense Override – WAR

In addition, the data intersections underlying the deprecated forms will no longer accept data including through data import, Smart View, or Data Management.

If you are using any of the above forms or the underlying data intersections to view or modify override FX rates/amount you will need to transition to the new override FX rate/amount forms and underlying data intersections.

The replacement forms are available under the Tax Administration\FX Rates folder and will allow entry and review of the respective FX rate or amount override values.

  • FX Rates - NIBT Override: NIBT Foreign Exchange Override Rates (This form replaces NIBT FX Rates Override: FX Rates - NIBT Override)
  • FX Rates - NIBT Override – WAR: NIBT Foreign Exchange Override Rates - Calculated Weighted Average (This form replaces NIBT FX Rates Override - WAR: FX Rates - NIBT Override – WAR)
  • FX Rates - Expense Override – WAR: Foreign Exchange Rates Calculated Weighted Average (This form replaces Weighted Average Rates Override: FX Rates - Expense Override – WAR)

NOTE: The transition from the old override FX rate capability to the new override FX rate capability requires a migration. All applications created prior to 21.07 must manually run the migration no later than the upgrade to 22.08 on your test and production instances. As part of the migration, all the FX override rates (that is, NIBT override, WAR, and others) that are contained within the Tax Reporting application will be migrated to new intersections. You can tell if a migration is necessary by following the steps in Migrating Override FX Rate and Amount Data and verifying that the Migrate NIBT FX override rate, NIBT WAR and Expense WAR Data checkbox is unchecked. The migration is safe to run multiple times.

IMPORTANT: If you fail to run the migration before upgrading to 22.08, Consolidation will fail with the following error message: A method called by the script failed on line: 8, with error: No migration upgrade smartlist detected. Performing the migration will resolve this error.

IMPORTANT: Data integrations involving the deprecated override FX rate intersections, such as data import/export profiles, Data Management integrations, or Smart View sheets may require a manual update to point to the new override FX rate intersections. See the Migrating Override FX Rate and Amount Data for details on the intersections to migrate.

Purging of Audit Information

Starting in the 22.10 update, audit records older than 365 days will be automatically purged at service start-up such as after the daily maintenance window, service reset, or outage (planned or unplanned). Purged audit records will not be stored or accessible. To prepare for this change, you may want to take a backup of the historical audit data. To do this, select one of the following options:

  1. Export: Select the Export option on the Actions menu from the Audit card by selecting the appropriate filters.
  2. EPM Automate command: Use the exportAppAudit command. See exportAppAudit in Working with EPM Automate for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud.
