Optional Uptake of New Features (Opt In)

Oracle Cloud Applications delivers new updates every quarter. This means every three months you'll receive new functionality to help you efficiently and effectively manage your business. Some features are delivered Enabled meaning they are immediately available to end users. Other features are delivered Disabled meaning you have to take action to make available. Features delivered Disabled can be activated for end users by stepping through the following instructions using the following privileges:

  • Review Applications Offering (ASM_REVIEW_APPLICATIONS_OFFERINGS_PRIV)
  • Configure Oracle Fusion Applications Offering (ASM_CONFIGURE_OFFERING_PRIV)

Here’s how you opt in to new features:

  1. Click Navigator > My Enterprise > New Features.
  2. On the Features Overview page, select your offering to review new features specific to it. Or, you can leave the default selection All Enabled Offerings to review new features for all offerings.
  3. On the New Features tab, review the new features and check the opt-in status of the feature in the Enabled column. If a feature has already been enabled, you will see a check mark. Otherwise, you will see an icon to enable the feature.
  4. Click the icon in the Enabled column and complete the steps to enable the feature.

For more information and detailed instructions on opting in to new features for your offering, see Offering Configuration.

Opt In Expiration

Occasionally, features delivered Disabled via Opt In may be enabled automatically in a future update. This is known as an Opt In Expiration. If your cloud service has any Opt In Expirations in this update, you will see a related tab in this document. Click on that tab to see when the feature was originally delivered Disabled, and when the Opt In will expire, potentially automatically enabling the feature. You can also click here to see features with current Opt In Expirations across all Oracle Cloud Applications. Beyond the current update, the Financials forums on Cloud Customer Connect have details of Opt In Expirations upcoming in future updates.

Feature Summary

Column Definitions:

Report = New or modified, Oracle-delivered, ready to run reports.

UI or Process-Based: Small Scale = These UI or process-based features are typically comprised of minor field, validation, or program changes. Therefore, the potential impact to users is minimal.

UI or Process-Based: Larger Scale* = These UI or process-based features have more complex designs. Therefore, the potential impact to users is higher.

Features Delivered Disabled = Action is needed BEFORE these features can be used by END USERS. These features are delivered disabled and you choose if and when to enable them. For example, a) new or expanded BI subject areas need to first be incorporated into reports, b) Integration is required to utilize new web services, or c) features must be assigned to user roles before they can be accessed.

Ready for Use by End Users
(Feature Delivered Enabled)

Reports plus Small Scale UI or Process-Based new features will have minimal user impact after an update. Therefore, customer acceptance testing should focus on the Larger Scale UI or Process-Based* new features.

Customer Must Take Action before Use by End Users
(Feature Delivered Disabled)

Not disruptive as action is required to make these features ready to use. As you selectively choose to leverage, you set your test and roll out timing.

Removal Notice for the Bridge for Microsoft Active Directory on the Security Console

Starting update 21B, Bridge for Microsoft Active Directory will be unavailable on the Security Console on all newly provisioned pods.

NOTE: Starting update 21A, you couldn't use Bridge for Microsoft Active Directory for any new integration. Also, no enhancements are supported for existing customers who are using the Bridge for Microsoft Active Directory that's available in the Security Console in earlier versions of Oracle Applications Cloud.

Removal of non supported functionality from UI will help customers avoid any confusion while choosing their integration pattern.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Key Resources

  • To build your own integrations, you must use the SCIM REST APIs. For details, see Use Cases.

Compare Users Using the Security Console

You can now compare two users to view the JOB and DUTY roles that are assigned to them. On the User Accounts page of the Security Console, click the Compare Users button.

Send Password Lifecycle Notifications to Personal Email Address for Pending and Terminated Workers

Notifications that are a part of password lifecycle process will be sent to the personal email address of the user if the user's profile is in pending or terminated status. These notifications are related to the following events:

  • Forgot user name
  • New user created
  • Password expired
  • Password expiry warning
  • Password generated
  • Password reset confirmation
  • Password reset

Notifications Related to the Password Lifecycle

Customers will have an improved user experience for password lifecycle notification events for both pending and terminated workers.

Steps to Enable

To use this feature, make sure that the profile option User Account Notifications to Home Email Enabled (ORA_PER_USER_ACCOUNT_NOTIFY_HOME_EMAIL) is enabled.

Approvals and Notifications

Display Reminder Prefix for Approval Notifications

The prefix "Reminder" is attached by default to the beginning of the title for reminder notifications related to approvals. This can be configured by specifying a value for the Add Reminder Prefix to Notification Title (BPM_REMINDER_PREFIX) profile option.

Notification with the Word Reminder At the Beginning of the Email Subject

Adding this prefix improves the visibility of reminder notifications related to approvals.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

  • If you don't want the word Reminder there, set the Add Reminder Prefix to Notification Title (BPM_REMINDER_PREFIX) profile option to false. Your configuration options are:
    • true: Attach prefix "Reminder" to reminder notifications related to approvals
    • false: Don't attach prefix "Reminder" to reminder notifications related to approvals
  • In the Setup and Maintenance work area, use the Manage Applications Core Administrator Profile Values task in the Application Extensions functional area. What you set for this profile option applies to all workflow tasks.

Key Resources

Role Information

You don’t need a new role or privilege to use this feature. To update the profile option, you need a role that gives you access to the Setup and Maintenance work area.

Configure Commenting Options for Approval and Rejection (Updated)

Configure commenting options for approving and rejecting workflow tasks. You can configure comments as mandatory or optional; you can also restrict approvers from entering comments. Beginning in 21B, this feature also applies to notifications and task details that you can configure using Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher.

Your configuration options are:

  • Required: A field for comments appears in the approval dialog box. An error message appears if the approver doesn’t enter comments.
  • Not Allowed: The comments section doesn’t appear for the approver.
  • Optional: The comments section appears, and the approver can optionally enter comments.

You can use this feature to adhere to regulatory compliance requirements that mandate auditing of comments.

Steps to Enable

  1. In the Setup and Maintenance work area, go to the Manage Task Configurations task or another approval setup task in the Application Extensions functional area or another functional area.
  2. In BPM Worklist, on the Task Configuration tab, select the workflow task.
  3. Click the Edit task icon in the Tasks to be configured toolbar.
  4. Open the Configuration subtab.
  5. In the Approval Pre-conditions section, for the Approve and Reject lists, select an option to determine if comments are required, optional, or not allowed when users approve or reject.
  6. Click the Commit task icon in the Tasks to be configured toolbar when you're ready to roll out your changes.

Role Information

To configure this feature, you need a role that lets you perform administrative tasks in BPM Worklist.

New Enhancements to Transaction Console

Leverage these enhancements to the Transaction Console:

  • A new enhancement to help diagnose problems for failed transactions is available in Transaction Console. Approval rules details have been added to the Diagnostic Log to enable Administrators to review the specific conditions that may have caused failure.
  • A Transaction Console refresh schedule process ('Refresh Transaction Administrator Console Transaction Status') is now delivered with a default schedule to run every hour out of the box. Please note this will not have any impact on existing customers who have already scheduled this process. If the new ESS Job finds an existing Job, then it will quit and let that process run.

Enhancements to Transaction Console improve the user experience.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

BI Cloud Connector

Inactive and Unavailable BI View Objects (BIVOs) and BIVO Columns for Exclusion from Extraction in BI Cloud Connector

Updated Oracle ADF Desktop Integration Add-In

The latest version of the Oracle ADF Desktop Integration add-in is version 5.0.6.21928.

You can now download the latest version of the Oracle ADF Desktop Integration add-in.

Steps to Enable

Key Resources

Classic Sandboxes Are Decommissioned

You now get unified sandboxes by default, and can no longer use classic sandboxes.

Unified sandboxes provide a consistent sandbox experience across all configuration tools, a more robust user interface, and many other new and enhanced functionalities.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Automatic Visual Builder Studio Access with Some Oracle Applications Cloud Roles

Each Oracle Applications Cloud user automatically receives one Visual Builder (VB) Studio instance per cloud account, which is provisioned in the test environment by default. This means that users can now create application extensions to modify Oracle Applications Cloud built with Visual Builder to suit their business needs. As part of this provisioning, certain Oracle Applications Cloud roles are synchronized with the VB Studio Identity Cloud Service (IDCS) role. That is, for each Oracle Applications Cloud role, IDCS creates a group representing users assigned to that role. For example, the Application Administrator IDCS group represents users assigned to the Application Administrator (ORA_FND_APPLICATION_ADMINISTRATOR_JOB ) role in Oracle Applications Cloud. These users can then access VB Studio. For more information, see the Visual Builder Studio documentation.

Oracle Applications Cloud users are now automatically provisioned with Visual Builder Studio.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Key Resources

Updated Oracle Visual Builder Studio

Here are some key things you can now do when you use Visual Builder Studio to extend your application pages:

  • Add objects in layouts: You can add one-to-many sub-object fields and polymorphic objects and their discriminators to layouts in rule sets. You can also modify the order in which the object's fields are rendered in the component.
  • Duplicate the templates defined in the base application: You can duplicate templates defined in the base application and use them as the basis for a new template. When you duplicate a template, the event listeners and action chains used in the template are automatically copied to your application extension. Variables referenced in the template are also automatically modified to work in the application extension.
  • Add listenable vbEnter event: You can create event listeners for the vbEnter lifecycle event in your dynamic component and use them to trigger action chains when the page is opened.
  • Add and use resources: You can create, import, and edit resources, such as JavaScript, CSS, and image files in your extension application:
    • Create and import resources using tools in the resources folder in the Source View pane.
    • Create custom JavaScript functions for dynamic UI artifact field properties. The Fields tab of the dynamic UI artifacts has a JavaSript editor that you can access from the Properties pane.
    • Add images to your resources from the Properties pane.
    • Use the Variables dialog box and Expression editor in the Properties pane to select resources.

The new Visual Builder Studio functionality provides you with a platform to extend your Oracle Applications Cloud extensively.
