Diversity and inclusion—Be yourself here

Diversity and inclusion power innovation at Oracle. Diverse perspectives make our ideas better and our teams stronger. It’s why we’ve created a workplace where everyone can do their best work without barriers. When everyone is heard and valued, we’re inspired to go beyond what’s been done before.

Leaders champion the way forward

"We are on a big journey. This is an amazing time to be part of Oracle, and I want everyone to be involved and feel a sense of belonging. Diversity and Inclusion is not only a personal mission of mine, but it is a business imperative.”

Safra Catz, Oracle CEO

dawn

Dawn

“You are relevant and you have so much to offer. You’ll surprise yourself – I did!”

Dawn had been out of the corporate world for nearly two decades when the Oracle UK Returnship Programme caught her eye. She had pressed pause on her career 19 years ago to start a family, but always saw herself returning to the technology industry, which she had loved.

Like so many other women in her position, she worried how her career break would affect her future prospects.

“Sometimes as women we can get too comfortable and only see ourselves in defined roles. Don’t overlook any opportunity: apply for a role even if your skill set doesn’t directly match the requirements, because attitude is just as important as experience.”

Sergio

Sergio

“We must be aware of our differences so we can use our own privilege to help others.”

When Sergio came out as a teenager, his friends and family accepted him and loved him for who he was. The community he lived in was less open-hearted. While things have thankfully progressed since then, it wasn’t until he joined Oracle NetSuite that he discovered what it was like to be part of a truly inclusive workplace.

Today, he leads the Spain chapter of Oracle’s Pride Employee Network, our employee resource group which aims to support and uplift the LGBTQ+ community at work and beyond. “I joined OPEN to foster a work culture where everyone is free to be themselves and nobody has to suffer a single act of discrimination, because I don’t want anyone to go through what I suffered.”

Kerry

“At Oracle, my neurodiversity doesn’t define me.”

Embracing diverse abilities, including neurodiverse people, can bring new ways of approaching problems with deep thinking, creativity, and true innovation. First launched in the UK, currently spreading to other parts of the world, Oracle’s Neurodiversity Network is developing formal programs, advising on workplace accommodations, or just helping adjust cultural acceptance.

“What I love about Oracle is that my neurodiversity doesn’t define me. I’m able to talk about it with my colleagues, about what it means, what I’m good at, what I’m not good at. I turn up to Oracle being cheery because I can actually be the person I am.”

Oxana

Oxana

“It’s not a competition between men and women—it’s about collaborating and creating opportunities for all.”

Oxana Arapova founded the Oracle Women’s Leadership community in the Czech Republic after her manager encouraged her to attend the Oracle Emerging Leaders’ Summit in 2018. The event sparked Oxana’s desire to create a platform where men and women can work together.

“We promote female leadership and opportunities for women, but this is a platform that can help everyone at Oracle increase their leadership potential,” she explains. “We need to learn who we are, the different things that motivate us, and how to prioritize them. If we do that, we can help each other grow and create an environment where everyone can succeed.”
