What is Oracle AI Database@AWS?

Oracle and Amazon have partnered to deliver Oracle AI Database services on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, managed by Oracle, running within AWS data centers.

This offering enables you to migrate Oracle Exadata workloads—including those leveraging Oracle Real Application Clusters—to AWS, unify your data across Oracle and AWS to innovate using zero-ETL integrations, and simplify management and operations.

Which Oracle Cloud Infrastructure products are available?

Oracle AI Database@AWS offers Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure, Oracle Autonomous AI Database on Dedicated Exadata Infrastructure, and Oracle Autonomous AI Database Serverless.

What are the commercial benefits for customers when they use Oracle AI Database@AWS?

  • AWS commitments: The purchase of Oracle AI Database@AWS in the AWS Marketplace qualifies for your existing AWS commitments.
  • Custom contract terms: You can work with Oracle Sales to negotiate commercial terms.
  • Leverage existing Oracle licenses: licenses: You can use eligible Oracle AI Database licenses using Oracle Bring Your Own License (BYOL) consumption on Oracle AI Database@AWS, just like you can with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, or use License-Included consumption with the offering.

What generation of Oracle Exadata hardware is available?

Exadata 11M (PDF) is available.

What versions of Oracle AI Database are available?

The same database versions supported on OCI are also supported in Oracle AI Database@AWS. Currently, those are Oracle Database 19c and Oracle AI Database 26ai.

What level of Oracle MAA certification does Oracle AI Database@AWS have?

Oracle AI Database@AWS achieves Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA) Platinum certification, the highest tier in the Oracle MAA framework. Platinum certification validates that the service is architected for mission-critical workloads requiring the highest levels of availability, data protection, and recoverability.

What are the expected latencies between application VMs and the database based on an Oracle MAA evaluation?

Observed network latency varies based on topology:

  • Same availability zone (AZ): approximately 165 microseconds between application VMs and the Exadata VM cluster, measured using Amazon Linux 2023 kernel 6.1 AMI
  • Cross-AZ: approximately 1.0 to 1.2 milliseconds between Exadata VM clusters across availability zones

Billing and economics

Can existing Oracle AI Database license(s) be used with Oracle AI Database@AWS?

Yes. You can leverage your existing investment in Oracle AI Database licenses using the Bring Your Own License (BYOL) program, which allows you to continue paying existing Oracle support fees while deploying those licenses to Oracle AI Database@AWS at a reduced cost.

Any valid, supported Oracle AI Database licenses are eligible for BYOL, including, but not limited to, licenses purchased via an unlimited license agreement (ULA) or via a fixed quantity license agreement. However, Oracle AI Database licenses that are supported via a third-party support organization are not eligible for the BYOL program.

If you do not have an existing license or have an insufficient quantity of licenses, License-Included consumption can be purchased through the offering.

Will the purchase of Oracle AI Database@AWS contribute toward AWS commitments?

Yes. Oracle AI Database@AWS usage qualifies for your existing AWS commitments.

Will the use of Oracle AI Database@AWS contribute toward an existing Oracle or OCI contract and commitment?

No.

Is there a charge for data egress or ingress between OCI and AWS?

There are no additional ingress/egress charges for any data movement between OCI and AWS over the multicloud link in the same region.

Are Oracle Applications supported on Oracle AI Database@AWS?

The following Oracle Applications are now supported on AWS when run on Oracle AI Database@AWS:

  • PeopleSoft
  • JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
  • Oracle Enterprise Performance Management

Can I work with my trusted partner service provider for Oracle AI Database@AWS?

Yes. Consulting services partners can work with you and your Oracle AI Database@AWS deployment and can offer Oracle AI Database@AWS through the AWS Channel Partner Private Offers (CPPO) program, which is open to eligible partners within the AWS Partner Network (APN) and the Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN).
