Enterprise file storage

OCI File Storage is fully managed and extends on-premises file storage to the cloud, scales to 8 exabytes and easily accommodates growing application storage needs. Oracle File Storage manages capacity growth and software upgrades, freeing IT managers to instead focus on business and application needs. OCI File Storage is NFSv3 compliant and can be accessed through VCN peering, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect or virtual private network (VPN).

Highly available and durable

OCI File Storage employs 5-way replicated storage, located in different fault domains, to provide redundancy for resilient data protection. Customer data is replicated for durability within each availability domain in a highly available infrastructure that implements industry-leading data protection techniques and best practices and is backed by SLA.

Security built-in

OCI File Storage encrypts all stored file system and snapshot data at rest by default, using the AES 256 encryption algorithm. By default, all file systems are encrypted using Oracle-managed encryption keys. Customers have the option to encrypt file systems using keys that they own and manage using Oracle Vault. Additionally, OCI File Storage provides the option for configuring encryption in transit for all data and metadata.

POSIX and NFS ready

OCI File Storage is Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX)-compliant to maximize application compatibility between different operating systems. Easily attach OCI File Storage to any existing network that supports network file system version 3.0 (NFSv3) to enable use cases including big data analytics, digital asset management, compliance management, backup, and more.

Policy-driven automation

Customers manage the lifecycle of their data with policies that automate populating, archiving, and deleting objects. The OCI policy layer uses policies to control what users can do within OCI, such as creating instances, a VCN and its security rules, mount targets, and file systems. Replication can be combined with lifecycle management policies that manage the automatic archiving and deletion of objects.

Compliance and certifications

File Storage reduces the administrative workload of compliance management with third-party audits and certifications available for both regions and specific countries. The Compliance Documents Service lets users view and download compliance documents as needed, on a self-service basis so that support requests are avoided.

    • OCI policies: Control what users can do within OCI, such as creating a VCN and its security rules, file systems, and mount targets.
    • Network security lists: Create security lists to control which IP addresses and ports can access your mount targets.
    • NFS export options: NFS export options apply access control to network security lists and NFS version 3 UNIX authentication.

Which Cloud Will Make It to 1 Terabyte Per Second First?

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure was recently ranked the seventh-fastest performer on the IO500, a widely recognized high-performance storage IO benchmark. The majority of other systems on the list are specialized on-premises environments, including research supercomputers.

Oracle achieved 500 GB/s write IO throughput and 13.1 million IOPS in metadata performance with a high-performance parallel file system using 270 nodes in an HPC cluster network running the BeeGFS BeeOND file system. To give this performance a sense of scale, Oracle's customer, Zoom, moves 7 PB of data each day to support 300 million meeting participants. The storage cluster used here could transfer and process that much data locally in less than 4 hours. As part of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) cluster, we estimate this much storage throughput would support 1000 simultaneous users for typically sized jobs.
