AI is changing how customers think about their technology investments and creating an even greater imperative to move applications and data to the cloud so they can get more value from their enterprise data, improve agility, and accelerate innovation.
In our latest Partner Success in Action webinar, I sat down with Nathan Thomas, Senior Vice President, Product Management, to discuss what’s driving cloud migration today, where we’re seeing the greatest customer momentum, the value customers can realize, and how you can capitalize on the opportunity.
Here are 5 key takeaways:
- AI is creating a new catalyst for cloud migration and new opportunities to unlock value from enterprise data. Customers want to connect the mission-critical data running in Oracle Database with the AI and analytics capabilities available in the cloud, whether in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Moving these workloads to the cloud brings data and AI closer together, helping customers get more value from their data while giving them access to the pace of innovation, economics, operational models, and global scale the cloud provides.
- Cloud migration can help customers address pressing business and technology priorities. A substantial number of Oracle Database workloads remain on-premises, creating a tremendous opportunity to help customers take the next step in their cloud journeys. We’re seeing strong momentum around data center exits, as well as customers looking to improve performance, scalability, disaster recovery, security, and cost. These different customer priorities can create natural opportunities to start a migration conversation and determine the right path forward.
- Partners can connect migration opportunities to customers’ broader business goals. With mission-critical workloads, customers need trusted advisors who understand not only their applications, infrastructure, and networking requirements, but also what they’re trying to accomplish. Partners can help customers assess their estates, determine the right migration path based on their priorities, execute the move, and identify opportunities to create additional value over time. And this opportunity extends beyond your Oracle practice: as customers increasingly operate across multiple clouds, your AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and broader cloud practices should be part of the conversation as well.
- Migration can deliver value today while creating a foundation for what’s next. Customers don’t need to solve every transformation objective at once. Nathan recommended a practical two-step approach: move workloads to the cloud first, then build on that foundation by connecting customers’ data with AI pipelines, analytics, and other cloud capabilities. These migrations are achievable: we’re seeing an average of roughly six to nine months from initial proof of concept to a production database running in a cloud service provider environment. From there, partners can help customers take advantage of new AI, analytics, and cloud capabilities to create additional value over time.
- Oracle continues to expand its investment in partner-led migration. We offer a growing range of benefits, incentives, resources, and tools to help you identify opportunities and deliver successful customer migrations. This includes no-cost Matilda Assessment Licenses to identify eligible OCI and multicloud opportunities, business and technical assessment funding to help cover the assessment work for eligible migration planning and execution before a customer has formally committed, and the new Oracle Migration Accelerator, which provides customers with funding for migration services delivered by eligible partners. These benefits can also work alongside certain other Oracle PartnerNetwork incentives and migration programs from other cloud providers, helping create more compelling economics for your customers while supporting the growth of your migration practice.
The opportunity in front of us is clear: help customers move their mission-critical data and applications to the cloud to realize greater value today, while creating a foundation for continued innovation and new opportunities with AI. Oracle has spent nearly 50 years building trusted relationships around customers’ most important enterprise data. Now, together, we can accelerate that transition and deliver even greater value for even more customers.
Here are a few customer success stories that show how cloud migration is helping organizations improve performance, simplify their environments, and create new opportunities for innovation: Securing Energy for Europe, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, and Worldline.
