HeatWave is a new, in-memory analytics accelerator developed for MySQL Database Service. It’s a distributed, scalable, in-memory, hybrid columnar, query-processing engine designed for fast execution of analytic queries. HeatWave is optimized for and exclusively available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

Architected for massive scale and performance

HeatWave enables in-memory vectorized processing, massive inter-and intra-node parallelism, and distributed query processing. This is facilitated by an in-memory, massively partitioned architecture and overlapping computation with network communication tasks.

Optimized for OCI

Query processing has been optimized for OCI. The sizes of the partitions have been optimized to fit the cache of the underlying shapes. The overlap of compute with communication is optimized for the network bandwidth between two nodes in OCI. Various analytics processing primitives use the hardware instructions of the underlying shapes.

Machine-learning automation

HeatWave uses machine learning to intelligently automate operations such as provisioning, increasing DBA productivity and reducing costs.
