How Fujitsu Built Its Oracle Cloud for Its Customers

10:30 a.m.–10:50 a.m.
Lilley Debra, Fujitsu
Session ID: SBH4843

Fujitsu has been providing cloud services for many years; it is its DNA. It designs, builds, and runs IT systems. As organizations choose cloud services, the choice of platform—such as IaaS for those who want to run their Oracle technology and applications—is very important. The combination of Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c and Oracle VM 3 promised everything the company needed, and it was happy to be an early adopter of both. Working closely with product management, it was able to build and deliver an Oracle Cloud. But this isn’t just a commercial for Oracle; there were initial gaps in the integration. The IaaS team wasn’t Oracle experts and wanted to stay with their favorite technologies, but it persevered. This session is about what it learned, the challenges, and how it overcame them.

In-Memory Analytics and Databases: Why? Why Now? How Is Oracle Enabling This Trend?

12:00 p.m.–12:20 p.m.
Sreedhar Kajeepeta, CSC
Session ID: SBH11443

In-memory analytics and databases are reaching a disruptive tipping point. Changes are on the horizon. Databases and data warehouses as we know them, with spinning disks and related I/O overhead, are not the future—definitely not of the last mile of big data analytics and of the database management systems of next-generation low-latency transactional systems. However, questions remain about application use cases and synergies with existing solutions such as Hadoop, NoSQL, caching, stream computing, and grids. So what is the exact place for in-memory solutions in the enterprise? How do offerings from Oracle cover the whole spectrum of use cases such solutions are meant to address and fit into that sweet spot? How can enterprise IT put them to use effectively? Get answers in this session.

Most Organizations churn out volumes of transactional data, capturing information about their customers, suppliers, operations, etc. In addition, there are sensors embedded all over the place, which collect data. Most organizations are struggling to ingest the data collected through these streams. Social media and explosion of social networking sites has accelerated the volume and velocity of data. This data is unstructured and is referred to as Big Data. There are many ways that big data in conjunction with transactional data can be used to create value for an organization. There is potential for big data to be leveraged to accelerate pace of innovation, productivity and growth and competitive advantage by using Big Data technologies.

Today's IT departments are faced with ever increasing demands on their applications as the number of users and underlying databases continue to expand. Application performance has not been able to keep up with this exponential growth. The first thing an IT organization tries to do when performance drops is to add incremental CPU and memory to servers, or add more servers to application server farms. In the database world, this is often met with limited success. Virident FlashMAX SCM device can be utilized in multiple ways to speed up Oracle database performance in a cost effective manner. This presentation will demonstrate how.
