Not all workloads are "cloud-worthy", especially those mission critical applications that require low latency & high throughput underpinned by an Oracle database. Cloud adjacency enables enterprises to interconnect securely to cloud and IT providers, as well as other business partners, directly, lowering latency and networking costs. Additionally, cloud adjacency offers a bridge for enterprises just starting their journey to cloud. Mission critical applications can be moved to the cloud in an incremental, phased approach when they are ready without affecting system performance or integration dependencies.

This demo shows the use of OCI Object and Archive Storage as a low-cost storage tier for Recovery Appliance backups that require long-term retention and restore process. An incremental backup is sent from the protected database to the ZDLRA, where a virtual full backup is created. This virtual backup is then copied to OCI Object Storage bucket as a standard RMAN full backup set and subsequently moved to OCI Archive Storage bucket via the Object Life Cycle Policy. The demo shows how database point-in-time restore operation from ZDLRA automatically retrieves needed archived backups from OCI storage, including recalling backups from archive to object storage tier, before they are transferred to the database.
