Business Challenges

Claro Colombia is the country’s largest and most influential telecommunications company, serving over 30 million customers. It provides mobile and fixed telephony, broadband internet, and television services, as well as data center and managed services that help businesses accelerate their digital transformation and deliver more advanced, agile solutions to their clients. Claro also provides technology services to the Colombian government.

In 2024 alone, Claro planned major investments to enhance service quality and expand 5G coverage, bringing connectivity to all corners of the country. One of the company’s main challenges was evolving from traditional, private cloud-based technologies to a model that would deliver greater financial efficiency and improved customer service performance.

Why Claro Chose Oracle

Always attentive to emerging technologies and their potential to create competitive advantages, Claro Colombia decided to expand its computing capacity, modernize its databases, and migrate critical workloads to the cloud.

After evaluating proposals from several providers, the company determined that Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) offered the best performance in terms of latency, enabling the migration of critical systems—including billing, BSS and OSS, and innovation platforms—with the flexibility, scalability, and security it required.

This was made possible through the strategic alliance between Claro and Oracle, which led to the creation of the first Oracle Cloud Region in Colombia in 2022.

Another decisive factor was OCI’s constant evolution and cutting-edge technology, along with Oracle’s dedicated technical support throughout the migration process—key elements that reinforced Claro’s decision to choose Oracle as its trusted technology partner.

Results

Claro Colombia migrated more than 100 on-premises critical servers to OCI, achieving substantial financial efficiency and an immediate reduction of up to 80% in OPEX costs across its administrative processes.

The company also reduced transactional data latency to under 10 milliseconds, ensuring greater automation efficiency and minimizing operational errors. Employees now have easier and faster access to all company workloads hosted in OCI, without the need for extensive training.

This improvement has led to faster sales processes, allowing teams to focus more on developing new solutions that enhance operational efficiency and service quality across the country. In terms of innovation and agility, Claro can now test new applications in just three weeks, significantly accelerating its time-to-market and capacity for continuous improvement.
