Our fast growth pace could no longer rely on on-premises models. Before OCI, integrating a new school took one year. We implemented 12 new units in just two years. Now we can continue expanding and strengthening the quality education that is our mission.

Business challenges

With 20 years of history, Ânima Educação brings together a community of more than 400,000 students and 18,000 employees committed to transforming the country through education. Its standard of excellence and close connection with the job market are differentiators that position Ânima ahead of competitors.

Experiencing exponential growth, Ânima identified the need to integrate an ever-growing volume of data—especially during enrollment and entrance exam periods, when demand peaks sharply—something difficult to achieve with an on-premises structure.

The local systems could no longer support operations across more than 60% of Brazil’s territory, covering a wide range of courses and educational solutions. As a result, the institution chose to migrate to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

In 2020, the acquisition of the Laureate group allowed the ecosystem to reach 75% of all higher education enrollments in Brazil.

Why Ânima Educação chose Oracle

Based on a relationship of trust and collaboration that has lasted for more than a decade—since adopting Oracle Database Appliance (ODA)—the decision to move to Oracle Cloud was a natural one. Ânima initially chose Exadata Cloud@Customer, Oracle’s private cloud, and has also begun using several public cloud applications.

The ability to expand its infrastructure quickly and efficiently, adapting to seasonal and growth demands, provided the flexibility and scalability needed to address the challenges of integrating its diverse educational ecosystem.

Oracle’s comprehensive portfolio, ranging from databases to business applications, was a key factor for Ânima, meeting the company’s evolving needs. Choosing Oracle as a technology partner was not only strategic from an infrastructure perspective—it also reinforced the long-term relationship of trust and collaboration that has been essential to Ânima’s success.

Results

The migration to Oracle Cloud delivered strong results, boosting Ânima’s integration capacity, scalability, and innovation. The computing and storage elasticity offered by the cloud enabled the integration of 12 new schools and systems in just two years, something that would have been impossible with an on-premises setup. This technological impact provided the agility and flexibility needed to capture integration synergies faster and more effectively, allowing Ânima to quickly adapt to changes in the education landscape and seize growth opportunities.

OCI also made it easier to perform testing, experimentation, and prototyping in an agile and cost-effective way. It allowed quick allocation of computing and storage resources as needed to validate business hypotheses and implement innovations with greater speed and efficiency. This further encouraged a culture of innovation within the organization, strengthening its ability to adapt and stand out in Brazil’s education market.

Financially, the migration to Oracle Cloud resulted in significant reductions in both operational and infrastructure investment costs, improving the business overall. By scaling resources according to demand and avoiding unnecessary physical infrastructure investments, Ânima grew from 150,000 to 410,000 students and from 7,000 to 18,000 employees—using the same allocated infrastructure. This represents savings of tens of millions of reais compared to an on-premises model. The integration process was seamless for students, with no system downtime or disruptions, reinforcing Ânima’s strong institutional reputation.
