Filtering Comparison Results

The results presented after running a configuration report or comparison can contain a lot of information that is not relevant to your current investigation. It is possible to filter and sort your results data to allow you to focus on the data that is most important to you.

Comparison results can be filtered by clicking on the Comparison Filter button at the top of the results list:

This will open a dialog which allows you to filter the list by the result of the comparison that has been performed. For example, if you are only interested in components that have been changed or added, uncheck the remaining states and press 'OK':

The states available are described below:

changed

Changed indicates that the component exists on both sides of the comparison, but that the configuration of the component is different on each side.

equal

Equal indicates that the component exists on both sides of the comparison, and that the configuration of the component is identical on each side.

added

Added indicates that the component is absent from the selection in pane A, but present in the selection in pane B.

deleted

Deleted indicates that the component is present in the selection in pane A, but absent from the selection in pane B.

error

Error indicates that Configuration Analysis could not complete processing for this component. If an error occurs whilst processing a component, Configuration Analysis will not abandon the report completely, but will move on to the next available component, and leave the failed component with this result.

resolved

Resolved indicates that the user has manually marked this row as resolved. See resolving differences for more information.

When you click OK, the results in the top panel will be filtered according to your selections, and the Comparison Filter button will appear with a green highlight, to show that results filtering is active:

Filtering by Processor Name and Type

When comparing two processes, the middle pane in the results area displays a list of processors:

Any column displaying a filter icon () in the header row can be used to filter the data in the processor list. Clicking on a filter icon will launch a dialog specific to the column type, allowing you to specify the filter for that column. Type columns will allow you to specify the types of processors that you wish to see; Processor columns allow you to use a 'Contains' operator to search for processors by name.

For example, clicking the filter icon in the Pane B Type column will launch a dialog box presenting you with a list of processor types present in that list. Simply unselect the processor types you do not wish to see:

Note:A blank row is included in the processor type filter dialog (above). This enables you to determine the behavior of the display with respect to processors that have been added or deleted. For example, processors which have been added, and are therefore not present on the left hand side of the list, can be eliminated from the display by unselecting the blank type in the processor type filter dialog for the left hand side of the list.

When you press 'OK', the list of components displayed in the panel will be filtered. As with the comparison filters, filter activity is indicated by a green background to the filter icon:
