GNR Get Cultures

The GNR Get Cultures processor uses GNR’s 'classification' API and returns all of the possible cultures for a name.

Use

GNR Get Cultures is intended for use when profiling names within a data set or data sets, in order to understand the cultural groupings of the names, and any ambiguities in name culture derivation, especially as ambiguities in name culture derivation may affect how GNR Search matches the names.

GNR Get Cultures can also be used to verify the selection of a ‘best’ culture for a name using GNR Get Best Culture.

Inputs

GNR Get Cultures requires the input of Given Name and Surname attributes.

Outputs

All the output attributes from GNR Get Cultures are arrays of culture values. The following culture values are possible:

Ambiguous
Anglo
Arabic
Chinese
Hispanic
Korean
Russian
French
German
Thai
Indonesian
Yoruban
Farsi
Pakistani
Indian
Japanese
Afghani
Vietnamese
Southwest Asian (a "rollup" culture that represents some combination of Arabic, Farsi, Pakistani, and Afghanistan cultures)
European (a "rollup" culture that represents some combination of Anglo, French, German, and Hispanic cultures)
Han (a "rollup" culture that represents some combination of Chinese, Korean, and Vietnam cultures)

Data attributes

FullNameCultures	Added	An array of all the possible origin cultures of the whole name. Note that the processor adds the supplied Surname to the supplied Given Name to form a Full Name.

Results Browsing

Culture values are added to the data in the form of array attributes. A summary view (with drilldowns to the data) is included that summarizes the derived culture values for each name (Given Name, Surname and also the Full Name). Note that as a name may have many culture values, the same record may appear when drilling down on several of the cultures.

Separate summary views are provided for the Given Name, the Surname, and the Full Name (which is derived from the Given Name and Surname).
