Camerite Sistemas helps improve community safety using Oracle Cloud
The cloud video security firm deploys Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to improve its surveillance service, cut latency, and reduce costs.
“With OCI we improved the speed at which our customers can conduct their investigation based on surveillance images. We have transformed our technical and commercial business model, increased business flexibility, and lowered operating costs by 25%. The Oracle solution was clearly beyond the competition.”
Business challenges
Camerite Sistemas provides franchises for cloud-based video surveillance services, offering video monitoring that combines integrated surveillance cameras with artificial intelligence. The company centralizes camera images from a neighborhood on a single platform, which is made available in real time to private and public security organizations for use in criminal and other investigations. Based in Joinville, Brazil, the company has operations throughout the country, a presence in more than 800 cities, and serves more than 300,000 customers, with the goal of improving community safety.
The company wanted to improve its cloud infrastructure in order to grow the business and expand its service offering. Camerite needed to decrease its infrastructure costs and reduce latency to give customers faster access to live images and respond to suspected crimes more rapidly. It also required increased flexibility when scaling, since its legacy cloud provider could offer service expansion only by doubling the amount of staff and infrastructure resources each time, which was no longer financially viable.
With OCI I can choose exactly the amount of cores I need, which improves our project viability by allowing us to economize when scaling. Without this, we would not have achieved the business volume or the financial results we are reaching today.
Why Camerite Sistemas chose Oracle
Camerite selected Oracle to replace its previous cloud providers because of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)’s lower costs, its uniform pricing model, and the reduced latency achieved by localizing to a Brazilian cloud region data center. The key factor in its decision was the ability to incrementally scale OCI services, which provided added business flexibility to suit its growth needs. The company conducted a full proof of concept, including stress testing its services, before selecting OCI as the most suitable solution for its business. It continues to use some Azure services as well.
“The main factor that led us to exchange clouds was the viability of the operation as a whole,” says Sidney Schneider, CTO of Camerite Sistemas. “A major advantage of Oracle was the data center in Brazil, which allowed us to migrate our entire operation from the United States and provided a very big latency benefit. Also, the pricing structure, and the fact that I have micro-scalability to go from 8 to 10 or 11 cores, allows me an economy of scale.”
Results
Camerite reduced data center network latency, decreased total cost of ownership, and enabled rapid and incremental infrastructure scalability by deploying OCI. By moving to OCI, the company boosted surveillance product performance and customer service, lowered operating costs, and increased its business agility.
Camerite reduced its infrastructure expenditure by 25% by implementing OCI and taking advantage of its uniform pricing model, where the cost of the servers hosting Camerite’s surveillance footage is the same regardless of which data center it uses. With its current expansion plan, the organization expects to achieve cost savings of more than 50% within the next two years. With OCI, the company can host its surveillance data in Brazil instead of the United States—a setup that would have been more expensive with its previous cloud provider. With localized infrastructure, Camerite has cut latency almost in
Camerite also reduced costs by being able to increase its data processing and memory capacity in small increments instead of needing to add capacity in larger increments.
The infrastructure flexibility and financial gains brought by the OCI implementation have enabled Camerite to expand its business model to offer more direct-to-consumer services. The company expects the expansion and enhancement of Camerite’s monitoring services will ultimately help reduce crime in Brazil and improve public safety.
