Indus Towers is one of the largest telecom tower companies in the world. With 249,305 towers and 405,435 co-locations currently, the company enables communication for millions of people daily across 22 telecom circles. Supporting the company’s massive on-premises data warehouse became a challenge for IT resources, however. Indus Towers sought a solution to track network performance. By migrating to Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Indus Towers is able to automate routine database maintenance and security tasks, while also gaining the ability to swiftly scale up for future data growth/progression.

Why Indus Towers chose Oracle

The telecom was managing data on-premises, so employees had to spend time handling database management tasks, including patching, performance tuning, security, and system updates. As the company grew faster and digital penetration became far more robust, data volumes grew exponentially. Manual intervention became necessary in running the analytical workloads that provided a decision support system for customers. Indus Towers moved to Oracle Autonomous Database to automate most of the maintenance tasks, eliminating the need for employees to manage security. The telecom also gained the potential to easily scale up for growing data volumes, and accelerate the speed of data processing.

Results

In addition to gaining a 40% improvement in workload runtimes, Indus Towers tapped the compression capabilities in Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse to boost efficiency in storing data. Process performance data across multiple business applications now reside in a single repository, which helps employees analyze KPIs for each function individually, as well as across the business. This accelerated analysis and reporting, helping the company achieve its goals. “Since migrating to Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, we have significantly improved our ability to generate thousands of reports more quickly and efficiently, enabling us to deliver tailored data views and insights to our internal stakeholders on demand,” says Neeti Wahi, chief digital and information officer. Business reports are made available to employees at the start of a workday, offering enhanced visibility into network performance and empowering them to take proactive measures to better align with customer expectations.
