Propre Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of Propre Pte. Ltd. is a real estate big data platform provider. The platform collects records of approximately 16 million properties per day (as of March 2020), detailing each property with about 30,000 features, including its size, surrounding geography, nearby hospitals, as well as information about livability ratings and various investment indicators. This cross-border real estate market data is particularly useful for users looking to find the best property from around the world and property owners to efficiently maintain the properties they own. The company plans to expand from 17 countries to cover 30 countries by the end of 2020.
In order to respond to the expected 3X data volume growth with this business expansion, Propre Japan reviewed its existing data platform, considering system performance, scalability and the total cost, including development and operation. The new platform would need to be capable of updating and adding hundreds of millions of records per day and immediately using the new data for aggregation and analysis.
The company, which previously operated open source databases on another public cloud, was initially considering replacing it with IaaS on Oracle Gen 2 Cloud Infrastructure, which can significantly reduce server and network costs without changing the configuration. At the same time, Propre Japan tested Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing and found that performance was higher than expected, especially in processing heavy data loads. Combined with the great advantage of self-tuning which does not require continuous manual performance tuning, the company decided to use Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing as their new platform. Development and data migration took place in October 2019, with operations commencing in November.
Key implementation benefits include:
The company also used the Rapid Start Service provided by Oracle Consulting. This initial startup support service enabled Propre Japan to deploy the production environment in one month by facilitating data migration into the new platform and providing support on QA and development, and delivering workshops for smooth operation.
“When I evaluated Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing, it was incredible to see the high performance it achieved without any manual tuning by us – all we did was migrate the data. After getting started in our production environment, it became increasingly clear that the Autonomous Database really doesn’t need tuning. Previously, it took several months to collect and analysis real-estate information. Now by leveraging Oracle Autonomous Database, we can develop unique services such as propPITCH, propTREE and propCHART, which can provide daily data in real-time. By relying on Oracle Autonomous Database for our operations management, we have been able to spend more time and focus on developing analytics services to create a strong foundation from which we can expand to deliver new and innovative services based around real-time information,” said Mr. Ryota Negishi, Chief Technology Officer, Propre Japan.
The Oracle Cloud offers a complete suite of integrated applications for Sales, Service, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, Supply Chain and Manufacturing, plus Highly Automated and Secure Generation 2 Infrastructure featuring the Oracle Autonomous Database.
