Oracle Human Capital Management Cloud has been one of the greatest value additions for us. Our previous performance and talent management process was time consuming and manual. Printing, signing, and scanning have been replaced with a couple of clicks and more informed, fair employee performance reviews.

— Mohamed Salem, Talent Development & Communication Senior Department Manager, Nahdi Medical Company

Nahdi Saves Time and Improves the Employee Experience with Automated Talent and Performance Management Solution

Nahdi Medical is a leading retail pharmacy chain that manages and operates a nation-wide network serving about 85 million consumers annually in more than 130 cities and villages across Saudi Arabia, making it one of the most prevalent and fastest growing companies in the region. As the company continues to grow their pharmacy retail and services footprint, Nahdi relies on more than 6,000 employees around the country to keep customers returning.

To attract and retain the best employees, performance and talent management systems are critical. When managing an annual performance cycle across a highly-dispersed network of work locations became an enormous challenge, Nahdi saw the real need—and promise—of an automated management solution and online learning system.

Business Challenge
  • Improve talent management and workforce planning by enabling managers and HR staff to monitor and analyze the pharmacy chain’s individual, team, and company goals and achievements
  • Rely on a single talent management platform across the pharmacy-services enterprise that empowers employees and HR process owners to comply with Nahdi’s talent management policies
  • Impart greater transparency, accountability, and better control by process owners with a paperless performance management system
  • Ensure compliance to organizational policies during review cycles by maintaining a detailed performance history of each employee
  • Measure employee training effectiveness and training return on investment (ROI) using a comprehensive learning portal that can accommodate online, traditional classroom, formal, social, and blended training environments

Results
  • Deployed Oracle Talent Management Cloud within 40 days, automating and improving performance monitoring and management while eliminating ineffective, tedious, and labor-intensive manual processes—allowing Nahdi to distribute end-of-year bonuses 45 days earlier than in past years
  • Achieved 95% employee self-review in 10 working days, 100% manager review of employees in 15 working days, and 100% review approval compliance in 5 working days in annual performance review cycle for the year 2015
  • Increased accuracy and impartiality of performance evaluations by aligning employee and departmental goals, linking each goal with a quantitative measurement, and improving goal management
  • Achieved paperless processing of entire performance management cycle, and executed mid-year reviews as per management policy, keeping employee and company performance on track
  • Provided visibility into high performers by implementing an interactive matrix with built-in analytics to determine strategies for attracting and retaining top performers, to improve career mobility and bench strength, and to proactively plan succession for key positions and candidates
  • Created a performance-oriented culture, accelerating leadership development for high-potential employees with an automated and streamlined talent management process
  • Reduced training cost by publishing 100% configurable online courses in pharmacy and employee learn portals, and achieved ROI calculation against training programs using Kirkpatrick’s Training Evaluation Model Level IV
  • Brought all e-learning programs in-house, eliminating third-party solution and doubling employee e-learning hours
  • Leveraged Oracle Cloud technology for fast implementation and seamless integration, to ensure reduced cost of ownership and to ease system maintenance and upgrades
  • Achieved review normalization in ten working days and moved review ratings seamlessly into the ERP system as a base for compensation management
  • Began spot assessments of employees now that managers can view and track progress of employee goals and engage in ongoing performance dialogues

Oracle is our strategic technology partner. There was not much of a decision to make when it came to selecting a talent management solution from Oracle. The cost of ownership, integration, and support were compelling factors that could not be matched by other solutions or vendors.

— Hamidulla Shariff, IT Risk & Governance Department Manager, Nahdi Medical Company

Execution

Working with Oracle Partner HCL Technologies, Nahdi embarked on a fast-track implementation of Oracle HCM Cloud. Using predefined templates and accelerators, the solution was in place in a record-breaking 40 working days and within budget. HCL’s on-premises cloud accelerator and implementation methodology reduced timelines and cost of ownership. Java scripts were used to define Oracle Learn Portals, allowing configuration of Kirkpatrick’s training evaluation model level IV.
