With approximately 17,000 employees working across 20 countries in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions, Ricoh Europe’s customers rely on the company to ensure their document processes are optimized to meet client needs, enhance employees’ knowledge sharing, and maximize efficiency. In addition Ricoh clients have the peace of mind that they are working with a brand that puts sustainability at the heart of its research and development, as well as the document process-optimization services it provides for its clients. In recognition of achievements in reducing its environmental impact, Ricoh Europe won the Oracle 2012 Eco-Enterprise Innovation Award.
Ricoh set out to streamline and digitize business processes across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to enhance its customer service and support growing the capabilities of its office solutions, managed document services, IT services, and production printing. It also aimed to reduce CO2 emissions and the cost of transporting goods through global supply-chain-management optimization—for example, by intelligently scheduling outbound shipments to align with the inbound requirements for the return of goods.
Working with Oracle and Oracle Diamond Partner Infosys Ltd, Ricoh Europe implemented Oracle E-Business Suite applications to centralize front- and back-office processes, such as order management, transportation and logistics, and Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications to support logistics flows. It also implemented a private, virtualized cloud infrastructure to standardize business processes, streamline data centers across Europe, and reduce its carbon footprint.
Ricoh Europe reduced transportation-related CO2 emissions by setting up satellite warehouses across Europe to optimize logistics flows, which are supported by front- and back-office processes driven by Oracle E-Business Suite and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Ricoh Europe improved service processes and reduced its carbon footprint by enabling 2,500 field engineers to use Oracle’s Siebel Handheld.
Ricoh Europe also decommissioned 1,600 servers across Europe, reducing its carbon footprint and energy consumption by 85%. Together, these transformation programs supported the Ricoh Group’s goal to reduce its global CO2 emissions from organizationwide business processes by 87.5% by 2050.
