As the MySQL Community looks toward the future following our 30-year anniversary celebrations in 2025-2026, we enter a new phase of community engagement. Public roadmap discussions, Early Access releases, GitHub collaboration, Contributor Summits, and greater transparency are creating more opportunities for users, contributors, partners, and community leaders to help shape the future of MySQL.
This momentum now includes the inaugural MySQL Steering Committee, bringing ecosystem leaders together to provide strategic guidance, strengthen collaboration, and support an open, transparent, and sustainable MySQL community.
Save the date for MySQL Public Discussion #6 on October 22, 2026, and the online MySQL Contributor Summit #3 on November 4–5, 2026. More details will be shared soon.

MySQL Ecosystem Updates |
|
Planet MySQL continues to evolve as a central place to discover MySQL community knowledge, projects, events, and technical content.
The MySQL Ecosystem Showcase now makes it easier to explore more than 100 extensions, tools, utilities, applications, services, libraries, connectors, and other technologies built around MySQL. The refreshed Planet MySQL experience also includes an active blog aggregator, full-text search, and an Events Calendar for finding MySQL conferences, meetups, webinars, and community gatherings.
Technical Releases
- Download Page – Changes in MySQL 26.7.0: Released at the end of July, MySQL 26.7 continues the Innovation Release cadence with new features, performance improvements, bug fixes, and platform enhancements. View the download resources:
- Blog – MySQL 9.7.0 LTS Is Now Available: MySQL 9.7 LTS was also released in April, providing a new long-term support release for stable production deployments.
- Blog – A More Predictable MySQL Release Model: MySQL has adopted a calendar-based versioning model, making releases easier to identify and align product versions with release timing.
- Blog – MySQL Release Models: LTS, Innovation, and Single Release: Learn how MySQL’s release models help users choose the right cadence for their environment, whether they prioritize long-term stability, early access to new capabilities, or a single-release option.
- Page – MySQL Community Security Advisories: Customers should review the relevant advisories and apply updates appropriate to their environment.
- Security updates released across June, July, and August include fixes for MySQL products, including vulnerabilities with CVSS scores up to 9.7:

A Latin American sports-betting provider processed its largest-ever transaction volume during the FIFA World Cup, supporting 289,000 concurrent users while maintaining uninterrupted service with MySQL HeatWave on OCI.
Stress Testing MySQL for High-Concurrency Workloads
A LAD Solution Engineer used mysqlslap, MySQL’s load-emulation client, to simulate concurrent client connections and validate performance and resilience for a major Chilean bank.

Community Development Momentum |
|
The second MySQL Contributor Summit of 2026 brought contributors together in August to share progress, discuss proposals, and collaborate on the future of MySQL. A key outcome was a shared commitment to provide more regular updates on community development, making it easier to follow active work, contribute feedback, and participate in the discussions shaping MySQL.
MySQL server development continues to gain momentum, with eight pull requests submitted over two weeks — roughly one each working day. Current work is organized around several substantial initiatives:
- Native Vector Indexes: Engineers from Oracle, Google, and AWS are collaborating on this weekly.
- Replication and Binlog Optimizations: Enhancements covering large transactions, crash recovery, commit performance, and Group Replication switchover.
- User Defined Types: Ongoing project development.
- DuckDB Storage-Engine Integration: Public development discussions are now underway.
- In-Memory Relay Log Design: Early stages of public development discussions.
This effort is driven by a global ecosystem of contributors spanning at least 14 time zones from Tokyo to San Francisco. Many bring 10–20 years of MySQL experience and accumulated patches, bringing their expertise together to collaborate as equal participants in the project.

MySQL in Education |
|
The MySQL in Education wiki page is a new hub for showcasing how the MySQL Community Team engages with students and educational institutions worldwide. The page currently includes:
- Educational Presentations: Details on talks such as What Is MySQL, and Why Should You Learn It? and A Day in the Life of a Developer/DBA.
- Community Resources: Quick links to connect with the broader MySQL community.
- Future Content: As outreach efforts continue, the hub will grow into an expanding library of talks, materials, workshop ideas, and success stories.
