New Learner Experience

The new learner experience provides a faster learning catalog search engine for learners that includes higher relevancy search results in addition to a more natural browsing and simpler filtering that doesn’t first require the learner to enter a search term.

The learner’s current learning and transcript pages are also redesigned into a single page pre-filtered on current learning. Filter chips and search also allow the learner to quickly access specific assignments or their entire learning history. Required assignments show prominently and visually differentiated for easy identification.

Learning Recommendations are accessible from the Recommended Learning page with a richer, more visual experience that facilitates the learner’s engagement with learning items they have been recommended

Learning Controlled Availability

Features under this heading are under the Controlled Availability Program. The Controlled Availability Program is a program for early testing and feedback of features, before they are included into the product line. You must request and be accepted into the Controlled Availability Programs to use these features. Please see the What's New for more information on being part of these programs.

NOTE: These features are not generally available to customers, customers must be approved to use these features. When these features are generally available to all customers they will be announced under their product area headings.

New Learner Experience

Be among the first to try the new, modern learner experience that simplifies searching the learning catalog as well as accessing your current learning and learning recommendations.

Three new pages are available and replace the learner's landing page (Me > Learning), searching the learning catalog, What to Learn, Current Learning and View Transcript pages when enabled.

  • On the Explore page, you can browse and search the learning catalog
  • On the What to Learn page, you can view your learning recommendations and filter by recommendation categories
  • On the My Learning Experiences page, you can view your current learning and entire learning transcript

On the Explore page, you can browse and search the learning catalog. Browsing the entire learning catalog is more natural, and filtering doesn’t require you to first enter a search term.  When the page is loaded the learner can immediately start to browse, filter or sort the results. The callouts on the page shown here mark these features:

  1. Noticeably faster and more relevant search results using Oracle Search.
  2. Filters that let you find content in the learning catalog without entering a search term.
  3. An expanded view with a Get Started button that lets you enroll in, and in most cases, directly launch the content.  Or click Learn More to view the item's details page for more information.
  4. An expanded view that automatically plays the course or specialization trailer video, if it exists, to engage the learner without having to navigating away to a details page.

New Learning Experience: Explore Page

You can easily filter the catalog using categories, topics, learning item types, skills, outcomes, and languages, as well as other filters.

New Learning Experience: Search Filters

Sort the catalog by most recently featured, most recently added, title, starting soonest, rating, or most relevant, to have the more relevant results at the top.

New Learning Experience: Sort Search Results

On the What to Learn page, you can view your learning recommendations and filter by recommendation categories. The callouts on the page shown here mark these features:

  1. Filters let you quickly engage with or dismiss recommendations
  2. Just like on the Explore page, an expanded view that automatically plays the course or specialization trailer video, if it exists, to engage the learner without having to navigating away to a details page.

New Learning Experience: What to Learn Page

On the My Learning Experiences page, you can view your current learning and transcript. My Learning Experiences is the default landing tab when you click Me > Learning. The callouts on the page shown here mark these features:

  1. Quickly access current or completed assignments using filters.
  2. Sort the learning items by due date, most recently assigned, most recently completed, title or most relevant.
  3. Easily identify required assignments because of prominent visual differentiation.

New Learning Experience: My Learning Experiences Page

These new pages give learners a modern experience that simplifies browsing and searching the learning catalog.

Steps to Enable

To enable this feature you need to log a Service Request (SR).

Currently, you need approval from Oracle to use this feature in production environments. Log a Service Request (SR) requesting production use.

Tips And Considerations

Take note of the following:

  • The Explore page does not support filtering the learning catalog using Flexfields
  • Filters on all 3 pages are only shown if there is data on the page that match that filter option, otherwise they are hidden
  • The What to Learn page will be displayed even when the Access What to Learn functional security privilege is not granted to learners.
  • If using HDL data loader to regularly load new learning items or associating them to global access groups, you must re-ingest the learning catalog to Oracle Search afterwards.  Refer to step 3 of the steps to enable.  This will no longer be required with the 22C release onwards.
  • The configuration options in My Client Groups > Learning > Configure Self-Service > Configure Browse Learning Catalog do not apply to the new experience as it supports browsing the entire catalog.
  • The report tab is visible only when the functional privilege Configure Learner Dashboard (WLF_CONFIGURE_LEARNER_DASHBOARD) is granted
  • Customizing the pages is done using Visual Studio Builder.
  • What to Learn page will be renamed to Recommendations in 22C.
  • My Learning Experiences will be renamed to My Learning in 22C.
  • Using the background process called Reconcile User Access is not supported with the new learner experience.  You must enable Process User Access background process for reconciliation of access groups.

Learning

Oracle Learning Cloud is a skills driven learning platform that enables employees, teams and organizations to develop the most relevant set of skills. Oracle Learning combines informal and formal learning, from internal catalog and external learning sources into a single platform to provide learners with a single, unified learning experience.

Administrator Experience

Actual Effort Set Automatically for Bypass Complete Enhancement

When you, the learning administrator, define a course or specialization, you can set the minimum and maximum expected effort. Now when you set the learning record to Bypass complete, here's how the actual effort defaults:

  • If you set only a minimum or maximum expected effort, that value's automatically set as the actual effort.
  • If you set both a minimum and maximum expected effort, the maximum value's automatically set as the actual effort.

Course General Information Section with Minimum and Maximum Expected Efforts

Here are the ways you can set the learning record to Bypass complete via:

  • Change Status > Bypass and Complete action
  • Add Learners > Voluntary or Required > Advanced Rules > Initial Assignment Status > Bypass complete status

Course Bypass and Complete Dialog Box with Actual Effort in Hours Automatically Set with the Maximum Expected Effort

This enhancement improves productivity by leveraging expected effort to automatically set the actual effort.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Configurable Default Cover Art

You can now define the default cover art displayed for a specific type of learning item, such as Course. The default cover art is displayed for all learning items of that type without their own cover art defined. If a learning item has cover art defined, the default cover art is ignored and the learning item cover art is displayed instead.

The Configure Catalog Defaults Page Where You Select Default Cover Art for Your Various Learning Item Types

This enhancement improves productivity because you can set cover art once for the learning item type rather than add the same cover art every time you create a learning item. It also ensures consistence cover art across the learning items giving learners consistent visual cues to learning item types.

Steps to Enable

  1. Add cover art Images to the content library
    1. Go to My Client Groups > Learning > and under Catalog Resources, click Content.
    2. On the Content page, Add Content menu, select Add Cover Art.
    3. Add cover art Images to the content library.

  1. Select Default Cover Art for each learning item type: Courses, Specializations, Topic Communities, Category Communities, Official Communities, and Self-Service Communities.
    1. Go to My Client Groups > Learning > and under Setup, click Configure Catalog Defaults.
    2. On the Configure Catalog Defaults page, in the Default Cover Art section, click Edit.
    3. Select cover art for each learning item type.

Tips And Considerations

If neither the learning item nor the learning item type have cover art, then a blue banner is displayed.

External Providers Configuration Pages Update

The External Provider configuration pages were updated to be consistent with the responsive user experience.

The New Configure External Provider Page for a Specific Provider, in This Case, WebEx

These updates improve user experience by being consistent with the responsive user experience.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Load Global Access Group Relation Data with HCM Spreadsheet Data Loader

Let representatives from various organizations and lines of business to upload global access group relation data using HCM Spreadsheet Data Loader using custom roles that include the HCM Integration Specialist role. The people with these custom roles can upload the data using the secured spreadsheet templates. They won't be able to update records they don’t have access to.

The data security policies “View Global Access Group” and “View Catalog Learning Items by Administrator” secure which global access groups can be associated to which learning items using the spreadsheet data loader. The representatives must have access to the access group and the learning item they are trying to associate together.

This enhancement improves productivity by letting your business representatives load global access group relation data, without compromising on the data security.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

To use this tool, you need to install the Oracle ADF Desktop Integration Add-in for Excel.

Key Resources

For more information about HCM Spreadsheet Data Loader, see these documents in Oracle Help Center:

For information about access, see HCM Spreadsheet Data Loader (HSDL) Access on Cloud Customer Connect.

Rebuild Learning Item Text Indexes Background Process Removal

When you search for courses to add to specializations, relevant new items appear immediately. Search is now based on the item title, so you don't have to wait for the Rebuild Learning Item Text Indexes process to run. Search no longer looks at learning item descriptions, so make sure to use descriptive names for your learning items. You get this same behavior when you search for learning items to add to community catalogs.

You can now search for learning items only on the My Client Groups > Learning > Course, Offerings and Specialization pages. The search bar and advanced search links were removed from the Administrator Dashboard page.

This enhancement improves productivity because learning administrators now immediately see new learning items. They don't have to wait for the process to run.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

Any future scheduled instances of the Rebuild Learning Item Text Indexes process will be canceled because now there aren't any indexes to update.

External Providers

Enhanced Skillsoft Translation Support

If your Skillsoft subscription includes courses offered in multiple languages, they're typically imported to Oracle Learning as courses with multiple offerings, one offering per language. For example, a Skillsoft course is available in both English and French. Importing that course creates one course with the title and description in both English and French, two course offerings (one English and one French), and the related content item. Learners accessing Oracle Learning with their Fusion language preference set to English see the course title in English. Learners with French as their language preference see the title in French.

Your environment, however, may have additional Fusion language packs installed, for example you may have English, French, Spanish, and German installed. In such cases, learners having Spanish or German as their language preference will see the course text from the above example in English.

This new configuration parameter allows you to decide which language is used to populate the text for all other Fusion language packs installed on your environment when Skillsoft does not have a course in that specific language.

This new configuration parameter lets you set the language to use for the text of all other Oracle Fusion language packs installed in your environment when Skillsoft doesn't have a course in that specific language.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

English (US) was previously and remains the default language used when importing Skillsoft courses, to determine the text stored for all other installed Fusion languages when translations aren't available from Skillsoft. You need to set this configuration parameter only if you prefer to use another language available in your environment as the default. Changing this setting after Skillsoft items were imported into Oracle Learning updates existing items and updates their translations, to use the text defined for the selected language.

Learner Experience

Launch Self-Paced Offerings with Multiple Activities Enhancement

You can now launch directly into a self-paced offering when it has more than 1 activity, removing an extra click for the learner when launching from the course catalog details page, a course enrollment, or a specialization enrollment

The following conditions must be met:

  • There is only 1 offering visible to the learner and it is a self-paced offering
  • The enrollment form and enrollment approval are not enabled

The learner clicks enroll and is navigated to their enrollment details page showing the activities to complete. If the visible available offering has a single SCORM, AICC, or video-based activity, the learner is also automatically launched into the player for that content.

Optimized Flows Offering Page with Launch Buttons for Each Available Activity

This enhancement improves learner satisfaction by letting them more quickly access their learning activities.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Key Resources

For more context about this enhancement, see these two related enhancements:

Launching Offerings from Specializations Enhancement

When the option is enabled for Available Offerings section to only display offerings in the same language as the logged-in user, learners launching from a specialization enrollment can benefit from fewer clicks to launch the offering if only one is visible.

For example, if the course has two offerings, one in English and one in French, and learner’s language preference is English, then when learner is in his specialization enrollment page, he clicks on the Launch button for the course, he would be enrolled in the English offering of the course and it would launch automatically.

This enhancement improves learner satisfaction because they more easily get content in their preferred language.

Steps to Enable

  1. Go to My Client Groups > Learning and under Setup, click Configure Self-Service.
  2. On the Configure Self-Service page, in the Available Offerings section, select Set the language filter to a user's preferred language when they are in the available offerings list view.

Offering Title Display Changes in Available Offerings Section

Now, learners see the titles of enabled offerings in the Available Offerings section of course details pages. They no longer need to make an extra click to see them. You can also now use the primary classroom title to show a room number and location information for instructor-led training (ILT) and blended offerings in that same section.

The Course Details Page for an ILT Course with the Offering Title, Location and Classroom Info in the Available Offerings Section

These enhancements improve learner satisfaction because they can easily get the information they need to get to physical learning locations.

Steps to Enable

To make the Primary Classroom Title and Location Name values visible in the Available Offerings section, complete these steps:

Learning Controlled Availability

Features under this heading are under the Controlled Availability Program. The Controlled Availability Program is a program for early testing and feedback of features, before they are included into the product line. You must request and be accepted into the Controlled Availability Programs to use these features. Please see the What's New for more information on being part of these programs.

NOTE: These features are not generally available to customers, customers must be approved to use these features. When these features are generally available to all customers they will be announced under their product area headings.

Microsoft Teams Virtual Classroom Provider

You can create and update Microsoft Teams web conferencing events directly in Oracle Learning Cloud after integrating the applications. In Learning, the events are part of virtual instructor-led training. Here's what learning administrators can do:

  • Select a Microsoft Teams Account when creating virtual instructor led training activities.
  • Create and modify virtual ILT activities that link to the selected Microsoft Teams account. When you save an activity, an background process runs and creates or modifies meetings in Microsoft Teams for the instructors and the learners assigned to the activity.
  • Assign or withdraw learners from virtual ILT activities. When you assign learners to an activity, an background process runs and adds them as attendees to the associated Microsoft Teams meeting. When you withdraw learners from an activity, the job runs and removes them as attendees from the associated Microsoft Teams meeting.

Here's what learners can do:

  • Add the virtual classroom information to their calendars from the activity details page prior to the event.
  • Join the virtual classroom directly from the activity details page 15 minutes before the event.

Here's what instructors can do:

  • Add the virtual classroom information to their calendars from the offering details page.
  • Join the virtual classroom directly from the offering details page on the day of the event.

This feature lets you leverage Microsoft Teams as a virtual classroom provider directly in Oracle Learning Cloud.

Steps to Enable

To enable this feature, you need to log a service request (SR) because it's only available through the Controlled Availability Program at this time.

  1. Configure Microsoft Teams as an external provider using the My Client Groups > Learning > Configure External Providers task.

  1. On the Edit Instructor page, in the Virtual Accounts section, on the Create menu, select Microsoft Teams.

  1. In the Search and Select Virtual Classroom dialog box, add the Microsoft Teams instructors.

Tips And Considerations

Capturing attendance and updating the learner’s activity status in Learning is not yet automated as it is with other supported classroom providers. Learning administrators must update the learners in Learning using the application, excel spreadsheet with Oracle Desktop Integration plugin, mass actions, or using bulk data loading (HCM Data Loader).

Storing the recording of the virtual session in Learning isn't yet automated, as it is with other supported classroom providers. Learning administrators can upload the recording as related material manually, as appropriate.
