Business challenges

Elsewedy, a $2.5 billion global energy leader, was not getting sufficient performance from its on-premises workloads running Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), and remote monitoring systems that supported its Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The multifaceted business demanded strict project management and financial controls. Elsewedy was hampered by an outdated hardware platform and rigid IT infrastructure, which could not scale with growth and was impacting the performance of financial reporting.

The company needed to support its KPIs for sustainable sourcing, achieve a single informational ecosystem, and reduce the total cost of ownership.

It was incredible to see the value of our deployment in just a few days, helped by Oracle Cloud Lift Services for a smooth and quick transition.

Why Elsewedy Electric chose Oracle

With a multicloud strategy and some workloads on Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services, Elsewedy’s critical applications had been running on Oracle for many years. The company realized that moving to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) would offer the performance boost and scalability it needed. In addition, compared to other cloud vendors, OCI could seamlessly migrate EBS as-is to OCI with no downtime, via Oracle Cloud Lift Services and Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager.

Results

On completing its first use case—migrating EBS to OCI—Elsewedy saw an immediate 30% increase in performance and the ability to scale without restrictions as the business grew. The company also experienced a 30% reduction in TCO by eliminating the cost of running and maintaining on-premises infrastructure, which was one of the biggest benefits of choosing OCI.

In the migration process, Elsewedy deployed Oracle Integration Cloud Service to unify highly customized versions of EBS running on different servers. Using OCI Data Integration, the company integrated six instances and connected them to data flows to unify group KPIs.

Equipped with one centralized ERP system across the enterprise, Elsewedy’s next win was to enhance its business analytics to improve forecasting and strategy. Using OCI’s automated database service to provision Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse for financial, supply chain, and remote monitoring data, it then drew on Oracle Analytics Cloud to extract valuable data. That allowed the company to track and analyze key performance indicators governing finance and project lifecycle management, providing a massive improvement in business visibility and planning.

Oracle Analytics Cloud helped Elsewedy improve its sustainable sourcing by harnessing IIoT and EBS data stored in Autonomous Database to drill down into procurement as well as manufacturing procedures across the globe. It was able to reap insights into ways to reduce its supply chain carbon footprint. The analytics environment and OCI platform gave Elsewedy the reporting tools, business visibility, and infrastructure flexibility it needed to scale up and down to meet the demand of data-intensive projects from the Middle East to Africa and from Europe to Latin America.

After migrating EBS to OCI, the electrical products manufacturer moved its on-premises Oracle HR system to provide a public cloud talent acquisition and management system. It also migrated the Hyperion EPM planning and consolidation processes that provide financial statements online across 100 subsidiaries.

With the aim of providing zero data loss and continuous operations, the company took advantage of OCI’s maximum security to spin up an alternate disaster recovery site that complements its on-premises backup and recovery procedures.
