Technology integration

By using Oracle FastConnect and Azure ExpressRoute, customers can seamlessly build a private interconnection between their OCI and Microsoft Azure environments. The Interconnect also enables joint customers to take advantage of a unified identity and access management platform that leads to cost savings. Cloud engineers can set up SSO between Microsoft Azure and OCI for their Oracle applications, such as PeopleSoft, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, and E-Business Suite. Having a federated SSO makes the integration seamless and allows users to authenticate only once to access multiple applications, without signing in separately to access each application.

  • Direct connection between cloud vendors
  • <2ms latency for traffic between OCI and Microsoft Azure
  • Pricing is based solely on port capacities for OCI FastConnect and Azure ExpressRoute Local Circuit
  • No charges for inbound or outbound bandwidth consumed

Application interoperability

With Oracle Interconnect for Azure, customers have access to tested, validated, and supported deployments for packaged, cloud native, custom, and third-party applications to assist with ongoing innovation while leveraging existing environments. The traffic between Azure and Oracle Cloud flows directly through the private physical connection with round-trip latency of under 2 ms. Customers can further restrict the flow of traffic by using network security groups (NSGs) and security lists.

  • Deploy Oracle Autonomous Database on OCI and Microsoft Power BI on Microsoft Azure
  • Deploy Oracle Exadata Database Service on OCI and Microsoft Azure front-end
  • Deploy MySQL Database Service with HeatWave on OCI and microservices-based applications on Microsoft Azure
  • Deploy Oracle WebLogic and Oracle Database on OCI and connect it to a .Net application and Microsoft SQL Server on Microsoft Azure

Collaborative support model

Oracle Interconnect for Azure offers a seamless issue resolution process that can be initiated through Microsoft or Oracle when an issue is encountered. For customers who have Oracle software licenses and support, Oracle delivers support directly to customers who are running Oracle software on Windows Server Hyper-V and Microsoft Azure. As additional services are launched as a result of this partnership, more details will be shared on the support model.

  • Raise issues with Oracle or Microsoft
  • Joint resolution by both cloud vendors
  • Oracle support will request customer’s permission to engage with Microsoft directly; similar resolution model applies to Microsoft

Disaster recovery (DR)

To enable customers to deploy an effective DR architecture, Oracle is working towards providing more than one Interconnect region in each geography, such as US East and US West in North America. Every Interconnect circuit (ExpressRoute and FastConnect) comes with a redundant circuit on the same POP but different physical router, providing high availability.

  • The cost of FastConnect is the same across all the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure regions. There are no separate ingress or egress data charges.
  • The cost of Azure ExpressRoute varies across regions. Oracle recommends using the Local setting which has no separate ingress or egress charges.
