Business challenges

Consis International provides software for insurance companies, supporting life, medical, damage, liability, and other types of coverage. The company’s software supports the whole insurance process, from quotation to policy issuance, billing, collection, and claims. The technology also supports integration with partners, including reinsurers and brokers.

The company has nearly 300 employees supporting 120 Latin American insurers, with headquarters in Mexico, and local offices the US, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, and Venezuela. Its insurance company customers run Consis applications locally.

The tech insurance company considered migrating from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud to reduce administrative costs, speed up deployments, and provide scalability to help its customers meet demand surges.

Oracle Autonomous Database reduces our costs, and of course, the customer’s costs too. Cloud services are very appealing to all parties.

Why Consis International Chose Oracle

Consis chose to move its software applications and databases to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle Autonomous Database for a high-performance and flexible consumption-based pricing model that autoscales on demand, rather than a fixed-price subscription pricing model.

Results

With Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing database on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Consis chopped IT infrastructure and administrative costs in half, thanks to the ease and speed of provisioning a highly available database in just minutes and automated database administration. Compared with the previous on-premises environment, deployment time was reduced from up to 4 weeks to 4 days, while availability increased to 99%, and data processing performance improved 120%. The self-managing, self-patching, and self-securing autonomous database frees up IT resource time for more strategic business activities, from development to reporting.

Autoscaling in Oracle Autonomous Database allows Consis to ramp up capacity for peak periods of onboarding new customers of any size and supporting cyclical demand, then ramp down when idle to save costs.

In combination with the automation in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Consis employees can now collaborate virtually with customers and no longer need to travel to physical facilities to configure products. Most importantly, the company is able pass along its IT cost and time savings to customers though reduced pricing and enhanced service.
