Business challenges

Founded in Chicago in 1924, Grant Thornton is the United States member firm of Grant Thornton International, one of the world’s leading organizations of independent audit, tax, and advisory firms. With a network of over 8,000 professionals spread across 53 office locations, the company helps clients of all sizes succeed in areas such as financial health and compliance, information technology, and overall business performance improvement.

Servicing clients in the professional services industry, Grant Thornton’s employees are its core competency, but due to years of evolution and expansion, the company was challenged with an abundance of disparate legacy software across its human resources department. These systems created too many manual tasks, including many paper-based processes and ad-hoc solutions that caused disconnects within the organization. As the firm experienced rapid growth in recent years, the gaps became even more pronounced.

The legacy systems did little to support the company culture or employee experience, causing administrative delays that were taking time away from servicing clients and other stakeholders. Leadership also found it increasingly difficult to make informed decisions without timely insights and visibility into performance across HR and beyond.

The goal for Grant Thornton was to adopt a platform that could reduce manual administrative tasks, create streamlined processes, and guide decision-making with more consistent, up-to-date information.

Our people are our core product, and the ability to manage our workforce with Oracle Cloud HCM gives us the foundation for profitability and client satisfaction.

Why Grant Thornton chose Oracle

Grant Thornton selected Oracle Fusion Cloud Human Capital Management (HCM) to help enhance company culture and empower employees to exceed client expectations. The firm recognized that although other alternatives would enable ongoing operations, only Oracle Cloud HCM provided the modern, integrated environment that would support the transformation of the company and its planned growth.

The ability to eliminate a network of legacy applications while connecting data and functionality across the firm’s existing ecosystem was incredibly valuable. Having a single, unified platform in Oracle Cloud HCM would give the company the foundation it needed to make connections across service lines while standardizing and streamlining day-to-day HR processes.

Ultimately, Grant Thornton trusted Oracle Cloud HCM to help its diverse workforce work better and more efficiently so employees could better serve their clients.

Grant Thornton fully redesigned its end-to-end recruiting and employee experience with the help of Oracle Cloud HCM.

Results

Oracle Cloud HCM simplified daily life for Grant Thornton employees and partners. By eliminating many of the legacy applications, employees spend less time interacting with multiple systems and handling paperwork and more time servicing clients. The firm also moved away from the cumbersome, disconnected HR processes that left employees and job candidates frustrated and redesigned its end-to-end employee experience with Oracle Cloud HCM. At the same time, the platform gave company leaders more visibility into HR and finance with more accurate and timely data.

Talent management is a big focus for all organizations, and Grant Thornton gained a cutting-edge platform in Oracle Cloud HCM to support that initiative. With Oracle Recruiting, the firm can initiate a relationship with a candidate even before the application process. This improved the firm’s ability to find and recruit new talent from various sources, such as its growing university recruiting network. Plus, interested candidates who aren’t suited to a particular role can still provide information that could spark a conversation about another position that might be a better fit.

In addition, Oracle Cloud HCM allowed prospects and current employees to manage onboarding tasks, proactively update their personal profiles, manage expectations against performance, and check in with managers to identify successes. These self-service capabilities brought more seamless interactions across the firm’s workforce and promoted professional growth for each of Grant Thornton’s employees.

Using Oracle Journeys, part of the Oracle ME platform within Oracle Cloud HCM, Grant Thornton empowered employees to take control of their individual experiences so they can grow and thrive in their careers. This enhanced the firm’s efforts to understand and listen to its employees. For example, the company was able to use Oracle Journeys to conduct surveys about vaccinations and manage accommodations and exemptions, deftly handling a sensitive topic. It also created value in automating the firm’s offboarding process, which previously relied on spreadsheets. Now the experience is streamlined and connected to the larger employee journey, making it easier to contact former employees for referrals and, in some cases, attract them back to the firm.

Grant Thornton also built on its foundational deployment of Oracle Cloud HCM by expanding its use of Oracle Payroll to simplify how employees are paid. The platform streamlined the annual performance review and compensation cycle, which previously relied on dozens of manual processes and nonintegrated systems. In addition, these types of enhanced processes set the foundation for more informed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs.
