Zakelijke uitdagingen

Tical, a Costa Rican logistics operator founded in 1973, provides its clients with an array of services in solutions design. It has operations in Central America, Mexico, and the United States, and works with dozens of countries around the world as a facilitator for trade and industry. The company provides transportation services at sea, land, and air, as well as warehousing, distribution, and a customs agency. In its countries of operation, it has more than 1,500 employees who are responsible for synchronizing the global supply chain for nearly 3,000 customers.

Although Tical seeks to attract clients from many industries, its clientele specializes in retail, technology, construction, and consumer sectors.

The logistics firm knew that its on-premises infrastructure was keeping it from expanding. Tical also wanted to improve data security levels, so it sought out a more cost-effective and secure solution.

Oracle customer service listens and seeks what resources we need to solve any difficulties we may be facing. They do it in a reasonable time and they always look for the resource that we need for that situation; they even search for the expert needed.

Why Tical Chose Oracle

Although it evaluated other providers in the market, the more than 20 years that Tical has been working with Oracle products tilted the balance in Oracle’s favor. This decision provided Tical with both peace of mind and confidence that the company has the best, most future-proof solutions to help keep it at the forefront of its industry. In addition, Oracle's offer included a database upgrade on top of the cloud service, coupled with a price that competitors found difficult to match.

Implementation time was another key differentiator in Oracle’s favor. The migration took only 3 months, and could be completed by Tical’s team with the support of Oracle's cloud solution engineer.

Resultaten

The benefits of using Oracle Database Cloud Service on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) were clear immediately. The logistic operator’s recovery time data dropped from 24 hours using on-premises technology, to a mere 30 minutes. Additionally, disaster recovery time was also lowered from 4 weeks to 30 minutes, dramatically reducing the company's exposure to any contingency. Tical’s server grid transitioned to an active-to-active framework in high availability, which means that, if a server fails, it can switch to a second server immediately after reporting the failure, without any outages. The delivery times of goods to customers have also shortened significantly.

The migration to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure also enhanced security because Tical was able to rebuild all protocols from scratch instead of adjusting on a data center that had already been in use for many years. It has also enabled a faster recovery of backups, due to the international certifications and external audits that Oracle undergoes to certify the security of its solutions. Tical can transfer that information to its clients in a transparent way, which has resulted in increased confidence in the cloud services. Continuous updates are another benefit that Oracle provides.

After implementing OCI, Tical was able to enhance its corporate social responsibility by shutting down one of its data centers and operating a second one at only 50% capacity. In addition, the move to OCI gave the company’s employees the opportunity to work virtually from anywhere in the world.
