The UK’s Very Group Uses Oracle AI to Nurture and Retain Employees

An existing Fusion ERP and Fusion HCM customer, The Very Group has activated a number of AI features related to goal setting for 2,500 of its colleagues, says Colin Garside, HR & Finance Systems Manager.

Managers at The Very Group are using embedded Generative AI technology to create SMART goals for their teams, while employees create their own goals and success criteria for annual performance objectives.

Oracle AI features help employees overcome so-called “blank screen syndrome,” while benefitting from personalised goal description suggestions, according to their roles. Beyond this, Oracle AI is also helping increase the clarity and consistency of performance goals across individuals and teams.

Some of the people I’ve spoken to have been surprised by how good it is when they’ve seen the results, which gives them a massive head start in terms of creating their goals.

Business challenges

As the company seeks to integrate more artificial intelligence technology into its business, to better serve customers and enhance employee experiences, The Very Group is using Oracle AI to help its staff and managers define, set and achieve performance and development goals

“It was very, very simple to enable,’’ says Garside. ‘’It was just a straightforward enabling of an option within the visual builder screen and the AI assisting goals were there.’’

Why customer chose Oracle?

Oracle embeds AI into existing workflows. “The context is great because AI is embedded, and is using our own data, which makes the whole experience personal to the colleague, and it is a key differentiator Oracle brings,” says Garside.

Results

The Very Group continues to explore adding new AI features. “We've seen the AI Agent for Payslips & Flexible Benefits, which we are keen to explore further. These might be small things, but they can make quite a big difference in terms of reducing the number of queries into your service centre.

Payslip Analyst, a new RAG Agent in Cloud HCM, helps clarify details on payslips, enables enhanced payroll transparency, and reduces employee queries to HR. The AI retrieves the relevant policy documents and helps employees understand their salary breakdown, bonuses, compensation and more – and also responds to questions such as: "Why is my pay lower than last month?

Oracle’s ‘Goals’ features have been used some 10,000 times since being activated at the company last autumn.
