Depa Group Boosts Business Productivity Through Maximized ERP and Database Uptime while Cutting Total Cost of Ownership by 3x

Depa Group is among the top interior contractors in the luxury market. Its operating entities in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe provide design, manufacturing, fit out, and contracting services for prestigious hotels, retail chains, and corporate projects.

Currently Depa’s IT department is facing a challenging environment due to increasing demand by staff. New players are making the market increasingly competitive, so to innovate faster, the company needed to improve the overall performance of its Oracle E-Business Suite. Since the server landscape changed towards x86 platforms, Oracle discontinued support on Itanium-based HP server-storage. Users were complaining about long waiting times for business critical reports, while IT was frustrated by support issues and multiple vendors. To remedy the situation, Depa replaced its HP BladeSystem and HP StorageWorks EVA with Oracle Database Appliance.

Business Challenge
  • Increase competitiveness in the luxury interior fit out and manufacturing market
  • Provide dissatisfied end users with faster reporting to help secure new projects for hotel, residential, retail, and superyacht interiors
  • Reduce the time spent generating payroll and financial re-consolidation reports, allowing staff to concentrate on value added analyses and innovation
  • Simplify the computing backbone by eliminating multiple layers of incompatible hardware and a superfluity of vendors
Results
  • Increased enterprise resource planning (ERP) performance and reliability dramatically across all branches by running Oracle E-Business Suite with a 1.3 terabyte Oracle Database on Oracle Database Appliance
  • Issued bills of quantities—a detailed statement of work, prices, dimensions, and other details vital to the construction industry tendering process—12x faster, efficiently fulfilling tender backlog and strengthening Depa’s position when competing for new projects
  • Empowered financial staff to focus on analysis and make decisions faster by reducing the time needed for payroll processing by 3x, cost processing and bank re-consolidation by 6x, and cash flow reports by 3x
  • Leveraged the high performance gains of Oracle Database Appliance to build executive dashboards using Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, providing 360-degree visibility into the interior contracting business for decision makers
  • Reduced risk and uncertainty by providing 24/7 access to contracting information through maximum database availability protected from unforeseen or planned downtime—with Oracle Premier Support for Systems as a single point of accountability
  • Reduced total cost of ownership 3x by adopting a scalable capacity-on-demand platform that aligns software spending with business growth and helps Depa meet fluctuations in the global luxury interior market
  • Eliminated the issue of unsupported HP Itanium by adopting Oracle Engineered Systems and simplifying the IT backbone by replacing multiple software, hardware, and network components from different vendors with a single machine
  • Set the stage for upgrading to Oracle Database 12c and Oracle Cloud applications, allowing for even greater efficiency across geographies and faster reactivity to the competition in the luxury interior world

We chose Oracle for its reputation as a leading global provider and because there’s no other company who can give end-to-end solutions to meet our expectations of near-zero downtime as well as our corporate governance requirements.

“We worked with Oracle Partner Gerab System Solutions over three waves on testing and preparing databases and applications for the migration from HP to Oracle. Our employees noticed a huge uplift in ERP system performance, and our reports are running like a rocket,” said Ali Katkhada.
